Yes, there is. The objective valuation may not be an exact figure, but it falls within a reasonable range.
Trump valued his properties far outside such a range.
2020hindsights
Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you repeatedly committed fraud. Get ready to lose all your businesses in New York.
plasticmonkey
Trump repeated his accusation that Letitia James is “racist”. Since there is no evidence that she is racist, we can safely conclude that Trump is projecting again. He can’t stand a black woman prosecuting him.
Cards fan
That's great news for the state of New York. It sounds like the state has a good chance at being made whole when they sell them.
LoL the problem isn't the valuation per se, it's the fact that Trump lied about asset values when filing taxes etc. You don't get to have it both ways. You don't get to decrease the cost to decrease the tax burden, and inflate asset values to make lending easier.
plasticmonkey
The investigation started four and a half years ago, so no.

Another dog whistle to his rabid cult followers.
Litigation is settled in court. Not on Newsmax, OANN, or Fox.

Trump's tax evasion, fraud and wage theft of hard working Americans has been known and well-documented since the 80's.

The question is why this lazy, exploitative one percenter has been allowed to operate in NYC and other districts for so long with little consequences.
That is the two-tier justice system.
I am sure if the contractors he stiffed inflated expenses and dodged taxes they would have been audited. prosecuted and jailed.
And bankrupt with no easy way out.
There is you two-tier justice, disgraceful witch hunt, by the rentier capitalist justice system.
Thuban
Who are the people in control of this rentier capitalist justice system and why do they fear and hate Trump so much?
2020hindsights
The irony here is that this investigation resulted from Trump throwing Cohen under the bus in the Stormy Daniels hush money trial. Trump abandoned him so he had no qualms in telling the prosecutors where to look for fraud in Trump's companies. And find it they did.
And now here we are.
Cards fan
Probably because he's a moron and tried to overturn the results of the election, and install himself as ruler.
dagon
Why has the Trump crime spree been allowed to run rampant for decades and why do they fear, hate and prosecute the working man so much is the question you should be asking.
PTownsend
Spoken by a disgraceful, petulant politician who's also an overgrown child, the bigly don of frauds. Widely admired by others commiting frauds and fraudwannabes, along with others that want to see the rule of law changed to allow certain rich white males to grift without worrying. He got away with his frauds far too long. Shame on the New York City pols and judges that enabled him and his family for so long. Let justice prevail, I hope he is forced to sell his luxury place in Florida, at fair market value.
Thuban
So why is the rentier capitalist justice system suddenly doing something good for the working class by prosecuting a billionaire?
If the rentier capitalist system serves the interests of the people against billionaires, it means it's a good system and I guess the people are the capitalists in control of it.
Ah_so
That's odd, because when Florida State valued Mar-a-Lago at $26m for tax purposes, Trump argued that they had overvalued it and that $18m was the correct valuation.
Which is the correct value, Trump, $739m or $18m?
Don't tell me you've committed tax fraud in Florida too.
Cards fan
This is a civil case, not a criminal case. Also, this is the penalty phase. Also, ifs not "suddenly." He's been investigated in this case for more than 3 years.

"Habitual liar" - that pretty much covers all anyone needs to know about Trump. Kick him out of NY, FL, CA, and 47 other states. Get the lawsuits going.

Trump has really been losing it lately - even more than his dementia-addled brain typically does...
First he said you "need an ID to buy bread"...maybe one of our MAGA-friends here can explain that gem...
He then mistakenly said he "ran against Obama in 2016" not Hillary....and that "Biden would start WW II"...
https://news.yahoo.com/fox-news-host-seamlessly-turns-083724742.html
Then yesterday he said that the "Obama administration has it in their stats that I built 500 miles of border wall"... Interesting since the Obama administration ended before he became President...
https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/16xfl3k/trump_makes_anotherfalse_claim_about_the_border/
All this and "shoot shoplifters" and "execute Gen Milley"....
His dementia is either getting much worse or all the criminal and civil trials have him freaked and stressed...
I think its probably both...

Why has the Trump crime spree been allowed to run rampant for decades
No. The rentier capitalist justice system isn't prosecuting Trump. New York Attorney General Letitia James is prosecuting him.

Its doesn't and it hasn't, see 2008 bailouts etc
Trump and his apologists are trying vainly, against all evidence, to present himas a martyr against the 'elite' and laughable as it seems, champion of the working man.
When his record of privilege shows and seeing the public as a mark to be exploited.

Seeing Trump in the defendant's chair is a reminder to both his haters and defenders that the walls are still closing in on Trump. And now they're getting really really close.

You'd think his lawyers would tell him to shut up but they can't control him so his mouth will be his own worst enemy. Maybe Kise or Habba should tell him to stop using, "witch hunt." because in the end, the "witches" got burned.

Look at him sitting there seething. He can flap his yap and call the prosecutor a racist and the judge a criminal (a “questionable” legal strategy at best) outside,…..
But inside, he gets to sit there and face the consequences of his actions. He can’t lash out. He is not in control. He’s being held to account.
And it’s about to melt his “very large a brain” (remember that gem?).
EFD
And John Kelly went on the record today to confirm every disgusting thing we’ve ever heard Trump say about the wounded and the fallen. “Losers and suckers”. “I don’t get it. What was in it for them? (While standing amongst the graves at Arlington)” “Nobody wants to see that. That doesn’t look good for me. (In ragas to not wanting wounded veterans at a military parade in his honor)”

And ANOTHER Trump crony is testing the waters for a plea deal for immunity to testify against Trump....
Bernie Kerik, the former commissioner of the NYPD who was identified as a likely unindicted co-conspirator in Donald Trump’s Georgia indictment, said Monday he’ll refuse to testify in trials for Trump and his allies without a written assurance of immunity from prosecutors.

is Rudy going to cash in his "insurance policy"?
No wonder Trump is having "cognitive issues"...he's scared ^&*%less...

Inciting a mob because you're in court is a bad thing.
Calling for the judge to be disbarred is also wrong, and incredibly stupid.
lincolnman
This article doesn't address it but the reason Trump is freaking out today is that James set a trap for him and he walked right into it...
Lawyers from the New York Attorney General's office confronted former President Donald Trump in court Monday, showing a previously unseen deposition video where he denies responsibility for the property valuations in his own company.
In the video, shown on the enormous TV screens in the downtown Manhattan courtroom, Trump was asked who at the Trump Organization was tasked with making sure the family company's financial statements abided by GAAP — or generally accepted accounting principles.
Was it Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization's chief financial officer?
"I would say yes," Trump answered.
It was Weisselberg who made sure properties were valued according to GAAP, he said.
Moments earlier, Kevin C. Wallace, the attorney general's office lawyer presenting the opening statement, had shown a different deposition video of Weisselberg. Another lawyer from the attorney general's office asked if he was familiar with GAAP.
"I never took the CPA exam, never studied for it," Weisselberg said, explaining he wasn't familiar with GAAP. "So I don't know all the components for it."

Dead Wall? You know why he’s in that courtroom, right? Penalty phase. Mr let the judge decide watched the judge decide he’s liable for fraud and yanked his business licenses in New York State. If that’s what you call a dead wall I can only imagine what it would take for you to admit an L. See why you admire the guy so much. No such thing as objective reality. Reality is what Trump says it is at the precise moment he says it.

The dissolution of Trump “org” will be both psychologically and financially devastating.
Psychologically because it will prove as a legal matter of fact what most of us have known for years: His entire origin story is bovine feces. He is a proven fraud.
Financially because he is dependent upon the cash flows from his NY holdings to service his debt. No control, no debt servicing and that would be the end of that EVEN IF the court doesn’t order it’s outright liquidation, which it may well do.

Yes.
Yes, but probably not for the reasons you THINK.
Uh-huh, lol
Libs wouldn’t understand.
I wish there would be an objective reality, but it’s all, get Trump, get Trump or we are doomed. Fascinating to see the power of one man sending angst and fear through the souls of the left and establishment. Instead wasting everyone else’s time, just let the two men run unopposed, see who wins and go after Trump later, but the Dems can’t allow that, screw the political process. We have to act, like Nadler said, “we can’t leave it up for the people to vote and remove Trump”, I think that was the first time he ever spoke the truth.

No such thing as objective reality. Reality is what Trump says it is at the precise moment he says it.
Nobody wants to 'get Trump'. The left or the Dems have nothing to do with this case.
This is about Trump committing fraud: massively overvaluing his companies for banks to get loans, then undervaluing them for the taxman. And that he committed fraud is not in question, the judge has already determined that.
2020hindsights
bass4funk
Actually the judicial system will decide guilt/liability in criminal/civil matters.
The left have no interest in RFK except for his name value. All commentary I have seen on RFK from the left is very negative. The right, however, seem to really like him, with his crazy anti-vax talk.
RFK will hurt Trump more than Biden.
EFD
And not for nothing, it’s a pretty stupid idea to call the judge a criminal OUTSIDE the Judge’s own court when he’s about to determine the degree of your already established liability.
More so when a federal judge is considering restrictions or sanctions for violating his pre-trial release.
I surmise that Trump knows he is going to lose this case badly, AND he thinks the federal judge would never dare to use jail as a sanction.
He also thought that the FBI would never dare to execute a search warrant for his stolen classified documents.
If he continues on in this manner, I believe that eventually he will give the judge(s) no other option than to hold him in contempt for witness intimidation and jury tampering, to revoke his bond, and to order his incarceration until the resolution of his multiple felony trials.
bass4funk
I disagree
Yeah, Clapper, Brennan, Cheney, Schiff, Nadler, Clyburn, the Squad, Garland, Blinken, Joe, DNC, Mitch, Hillary, McCabe, Strzok, Ohr, Page, Steve Schmidt, George Conway, they all want to get Trump

Not in NYC
A lot of people do, and if people didn’t, the Dems wouldn’t be begging for him not to run as an independent.
No, because Biden’s poll numbers all around with the Dems are in the toilet, that’s why he’s running. Again, if it didn’t hurt Joe they wouldn’t panic about RFK joining the race as an independent.
In other words, Trump will pay a hefty fine, he can afford it.
I thought the same about Biden and here we are.

They aren't panicking about RFK joining the race as an independent.
Kurumazaka 2
factually incorrect. Trump passed up on the chance for a jury trial and the Judge, who Trump willingly granted the authority to rule on the case ruled that Trump DID commit fraud. Nothing allegedly about it.

It’s NYC a one party state. Go figure, a Dem stronghold. Thank God the banks admitted Trump did not wrongdoing.
No, Trump is beating Biden in almost every single poll by 10 points and if the Dems wouldn’t fear RFK, they wouldn’t ask him not to run as an independent, their words not mine.
On the contrary…
https://www.uspresidentialelectionnews.com/2023/10/democrats-freak-out-as-rfk-jr-plans-independent-run/
The idea of RFK Jr. running as an independent in the 2024 election is legitimately terrifying for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the fact that he could take votes away from Joe Biden and help Donald Trump—who incited a deadly insurrection the last time he lost—get reelected.
