zichi - Good to see Brits exercising their first amendment rights.

Brits? First amendment rights? You seem to be confusing your countries.

The same thing with Merkel:

Trump would say bad stuff about them when not in front of them

But when they come face-to-face, he'd act like he didn't do anything

Then when he's not in front of them again, he'd say bad stuff again

Same as at the G7 when he put together a statement with the other leaders, then just a few hours later threw a hissy fit at all the leaders. The guy is too weak to actually stand up to someone's face. Just imagine what he's saying to Putin right now.

Those that protest Trump, that is called a buffoon, let it be known that Trump is winning and has won much for America.

Alright, comrade. If you say so.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Oh my...

Well, there is no Muslim ban. And Trump stopped his zero tolerance kid snatching. No Hillary arrest. No EU members will up their NATO payments. But my 401K is rocking. But if my 401K tanks will Trump blame President "Crooked" Hillary? Oh, also no wall (and Mexico won't pay anyway). But black unemployment is down (but if it goes back up it's Hillary's fault)

"Trump makes lots of promises, some even diametrically opposed -- but he NEVER, EVER delivers."

This statement makes me laugh, thanks for the entertainment.

What has he contributed compared to Bill Gates? And look at how many times Trump has become bankrupt (along with his investors). Donald Trump vs. Bill Gates? There is no comparison. Also, Trump isn't even the top developer in NYC. He may not even be in the top five.

After the NATO meeting

Trump completely failed because no other members will contribute more than they already are. Trump is full of failures like his Muslim ban. Also, his wall is a failure.

has won much for America.

Yes, my 401K is rocking. But can it continue? Or is the USA in bubble and about to burst like 2008? I'm afraid my 401K might crash under Trump's watch.

"I don't consider Trump successful."

This statement makes me laugh, thanks for the entertainment.

Those that protest Trump, that is called a buffoon, let it be known that Trump is winning and has won much for America.

Trump does not do what is expected, and what is the norm. It is the same thing he is doing on tariffs. Trump is tough, he will take the pain and criticism, and out wait others.

Regardless of the criticism and pressure, and no matter how ugly it may get. Trump is playing the long game on tariffs, and is willing to wait until the EU and others cry uncle. After the NATO meeting the EU now knows they can’t pressure Trump.

Trump retweeted dodgy videos from known U.K. racists. The U.K. PM rebuked him as many U.K. people were furious. I didn’t like Trump retweeting dodgy videos from racists.

It’s utter filth. I’m sure you agree.

That's not all. A diplomat representing Donald Trump lobbied the UK on behalf of the jailed far-right activist known as Tommy Robinson and threatened to publicly criticise its handling of the case, it has been reported.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...ed-edl-founder

Trump is awfully keen on Nazis.

successful people such as Donald Trump

I don't consider Trump successful. If you invest in any of his companies kiss your money goodbye. People I consider successful are ones like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Absolute lack of class. Inspecting the guards, he looked as if someone was enjoying new toys and didn't even know where to look or go half the time. And then he manages to get in the way of the Queen. Like a fat, fumbling idiot, an American version of Boris Johnson.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Professional protesters are often losers that protest, protest and protest against successful people such as Donald Trump. We also have protesters in America that are paid to protest.

This is a myth. Unless you mean agent provocateurs and security plants. And again, I say this as someone who's managed to be employed and go out on demos and other means of peaceful protest. We are not losers and we come from all walks of life.

And not just demos on various rubbish White House incumbents, I'll have you know. There's more going on in the world than a buffoon meeting a monarch and telling tales of trade and witch hunts.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Trump has delivered, rising employment in America for all ethnic groups. Trump will win in trade, he is adamant about fair trade and will stay the course. With Trump it is fair trade or no trade.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Professional protesters are often losers that protest, protest and protest against successful people such as Donald Trump. We also have protesters in America that are paid to protest.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

JeffLee, apparently you are not aware of the Japanese conspiracy

Please tell us about what Pioneer did 40 years ago.

Once a market is destroyed, and electronics is a good example, then the exporters are in control and raise prices.

But I get cheaper made in China stuff in Japan. The Japanese government doesn't care. Proof is check out Amazon Japan and look at the cheap made-in-China goodies there and they are pretty much the same price YEN to DOLLAR on Amazon USA. And don't forget. The Zenith System 3 tube TV was like 40 years ago. We have flat screen TVs now.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Just the usual degenerate rent-a-mob. Normal people were busy at work.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you've probably never been on a protest before.

We get people from all walks of life and all professions on marches. Brickies, bakers, doctors, dentists, army vets, priests, nuns, imams, rabbis, politicians, posties, petrol pump attendents, employed, unemployed and so on.

2 million of us marched in 2003 against the illegal Iraq war. Even traditionally conservative people joined in.

The UK has a splendid history of protest. The Battle of Cable Street saw Irish and Jewish working class immigrants face down Oswald and his fascists.

Trump is mere bacteria compared to these brave people.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

JeffLee, apparently you are not aware of the Japanese conspiracy, most people are not aware as to how America lost it's industries and major electronics. In America it was total confusion, all the customers knew was that they could by Japanese products 25 to 50% cheaper than US products.

The technology had come from America and returned to America thru reversed technology, so copping was called.

Japanese exports were subsidized by MITI by high tariffs at the time to support the industrial invasion of America with cunning trade tactics. Once a market is destroyed, and electronics is a good example, then the exporters are in control and raise prices.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Reagan was also mocked in the international press, heavily criticized abroad, called dangerous and a warmonger by some,

For good reason. During the Reagan years, the popular theme in the Japanese media was: "the end of America as an industrial power." Under the Gipper's watch, the US rust belt emerged, the japanese were taking awaying huge chunks Detroits market - which was never recovered - and its major electronics and companies were pushed to bankruptcy or foreign takeovers.

On the home front, public spending was out of control, with about a trillion $$$ handed to the Pentagon. the expression "deficit spending" entering the public lexicon and major US cities were hell on earth, with crime and poverty. Public and private debt skyrocketed to prop up a rapidly deteriorating society.

It wasn't till the mid 90s, that the US started to recover from the hell Reagan inflicted on his country.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Regardless of protesters and dirty name calling there were good positive accomplishments with NATO.

Read the history of President Reagan, and you will see the similarities between Trump and Reagan, who is much beloved by the American people.

Reagan was also mocked in the international press, heavily criticized abroad, called dangerous and a warmonger by some, but in the long run Reagan won and so will Trump with his efforts to get some members of NATO to pay their fair share and to get countries to stop dumping in America and agree to fair trade.

Domestically, under Trumps guidance, the US economy is doing well. The statistics are there.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

There's been a worldwide tsunami of criticism of Trump's bizarro antics during the pomp and circumstance of his unwelcome European flyover before he meets the man he's always wanted to present his ghostwriter's "Art of the Deal" to in Hellsinky, but how many of Trump's myriad castigators and critics, one of which I admit to being, have ever considered finding a little compassion in their hearts for the poor, gibber-jabbering orange cretin who clearly hasn't a clue about how to extricate himself from this seemingly never-ending loop of lunacy? Does the Kremlin Godfather have the key to this conundrum from Queens with a bad hairdo which will release us all from the purgatorial comedy of the last two years? After ruffling feathers in Brussels and the UK will Trump in his secret tete-a-tete with his frenemy, Vlad, make the deal they both really want, but are unlikely to succeed in getting: the dissolution of the EU and NATO? Meanwhile, the world waits with amused anticipation for the grand finale of Trump's less than triumphant tour of an American abroad.

I also know why I dislike Trump. I have said the reasons many times on this site.

not knowing as to why they bitterly hate Trump

I know why I dislike Trump. My main reason is he gave a platform to a very nasty racist group in the UK.

I don’t like that.

In a newspaper interview published just hours before holding talks with May, Trump said her Brexit strategy would "kill" any chance of a trade deal and said she had not listened to his advice on how to negotiate with the EU.

Considering his strategies are causing trouble for factories in and out side the USA, why would May follow them.

The number of times he has changed what he says, who would listed to his advice, let alone follow it.

Trump said on Friday the United States and Britain could secure a "great" post-Brexit trade deal, lavishing praise on Prime Minister Theresa May and contradicting his own withering assessment of her strategy publicised hours earlier.

Once again Trump says one thing and then changes it shortly afterwards. If someone did that to him, what would he say about that person ?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

So he said one thing, the crowd didn’t like it, so he blames the media and then says the opposite.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@Dre Hund

LOL. Thanks for that.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Trumps says a great trade deal will be made. He means for America of course, not for England. He intends to screw them to the wall then complain they are still taking advantage of America.

The poor darling elderly Queen, forced to wait for Trumps arrival and then having the indignity thrust upon her of Trump walking in front of her. Proving Trumps lack of education and civility.

Trump continues to hit new lows but dont worry, there is more to follow. Bank on it.

Don't worry, folks. Don's brain will save the day. Nobody does brain like Don. I quote the Don-- "I have broken more Elton John records, he seems to have a lot of records. And I , by the way, I don't have a musical instrument. I don't have a guitar or an organ. No organ. Elton has an organ. And lots of other people helping. No, we've broken a lot of records. We've broken virtually every record. Because, you know, look, I only need this space. They need much more room. For basketball, for hockey, and all of the sports, they need a lot of room. We don't need it. We have people in that space. So we break all of these records. Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical, the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important."

funny thing is seeing british people protest make me like him even more...

Skimming some of the comments written by Trumpbots has precisely the opposite effect on me.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

wipeout - It's a nice idea - for libertarians and rightwing fundamentalists. However, I think we might just as easily say, instead of blaming the poor and the lazy as you're implying, that it was caused by rampant, insane levels of speculation - hence people from all levels of society paying far more for properties than they were worth, with money they didn't have - and by financial institutions engaging in irresponsible and frequently outright criminal behaviour.

None of which would have been possible if Congress hadn't changed the rules regarding loans, and loan applications.

p.s. Congress critters are neither poor or lazy. I'm not implying anything. I'm saying that Congress made the housing bubble a reality, and that Senator Obama was a member of that Congress.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

Surprised Phil The Greek wasn't invited to the party, him and Trump would have had lots to chat about.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The economy was deep in recession and unemployment was running high when he took over from George Bush. The financial crash occurred months before Obama became President, and it was calamitous.

But after that economy never went over 3% GDP no new jobs for growth in the private sector too much regulation and that’s why the economy by almost every economist was considered to be sluggish.

We have yet to see if the gains made since Trump took over will be sustained, which is far more important than attempts to give him all the credit for economic growth that took place in the Obama years, and economic growth today for which the groundwork was laid in the Obama years.

Since president has taken office economy has been on steroids. The problem is, the left can’t match that, can’t keep businesses in the country, even Burger King left the US.

People who say that wars - military or economic - are easy to win are asking for trouble, and they usually get it. It's about the starkest demonstration possible that they have no clue what they're doing. It's Trump who's taking the gamble here, but ordinary people who will pay the real price.

I really don’t believe so.

His fake teeth are about to pop out.

And you this because.....

-18 ( +1 / -19 )

His fake teeth are about to pop out. It's a shame the Queen had to suffer tea with such a child. Maybe he had family that got kicked out of England for dodging military service, too.

I’m no royalist, but I do feel for this seemingly decent elderly lady having to put up with a man who spouted trash like that.

Wow! You libs are really all over the place like a crushed bottle of Heinz ketchup.

Not at all. I think the institution of the monarchy is outdated but I have no problem with the queen as a person. She seems to be quite pleasant.

How would you feel if someone said he could have “nailed” your deceased daughter-in-law? How do you think her grandsons feel about that trash? It goes without saying it was very probably a lie in the first place.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

The editorial about Trump in The Scotsman is one of the most brutal I've read.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It doesn’t matter to his supporters. They do not care. He can say anything - outright lies, trash conspiracy theories, delusional nonsense - anything.

Again, no different than any other politician.

Standards of decency mean nothing to Trump partly because he knows standards of decency mean nothing to those who accept this crap.

Decency won’t save your neck from the chopping block.

I’m just glad the queen didn’t confront him about his trash comment that he could have “nailed” the dead mother of two of her grandchildren.

Why would she? She wouldn’t do that.

I’m no royalist, but I do feel for this seemingly decent elderly lady having to put up with a man who spouted trash like that.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Trump is what Japanese call a 八方美人 (happo bijin), a person who says what his listener (or audience) wants to hear, even when it totally contradicts remarks made only hours before to someone else. Is this due to a "lack of moral clarity" or something else entirely? Anyway wait and see what sort of nonsense he blabs about his trip after returning to Washington. He'll probably claim the Queen offered him a knighthood but he turned it down out of modesty...

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I have a dog so can empathize with them: commands must be clear and non-contradictory. It's when the dog owner has no idea of his own intentions (say, perhaps due the the fact that he has zero knowledge of a given situation yet opines nonetheless) that the dogs get confused.

The difference is, dogs can’t rationalize thoughts on an intellectual level to build or create things, they lack that cerebral enhanced part of the brain that allows them to distinguish cause effect. They are animals, dependent on humans for survival. On the other hand liberals do tend to have a collective instinct to swim upstream, never realizing it’s all for nothing..really.

-20 ( +2 / -22 )

Whose crowd is biggest?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

As an American, I frankly have no dog in the May/Johnson fight. I just know that some are like dogs, Pavlonian - whichever side Trump comes down on, they'll slavishly support.

Weird thing is, yesterday, Trump was extolling Johnson, and today, he's saying that he never did (despite video of him extolling Johnson) and instead extolled May. This leaves Trump slavies in a conundrum. I have a dog so can empathize with them: commands must be clear and non-contradictory. It's when the dog owner has no idea of his own intentions (say, perhaps due the the fact that he has zero knowledge of a given situation yet opines nonetheless) that the dogs get confused.

Japan- those are good observations and tally with what I see from folks also.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Of course. That a mentally unstable person is the most powerful person on the planet, spouting nonsense, incapable of speaking above a 3rd grade-level or remembering what he said 3 hours previously is of concern.

We had a President That was a Harvard graduate and he was weak and useless, all the smarts and what? Sluggish economy, disastrous and unnecessary overhaul of the healthcare system allowed our geopolitical foe to take Crimea, made a disastrous deal with Iran. Yes, all smarts and nothing to show for it.

JT is only one very small pond of online debate but I reckon 98% of the political discussion that occurs here is about Trump, what he said, how vile he is, how he's in cahoots with Russia, plus those who disagree.

Before that it was Bush...or any conservative for that matter.

Is this a great concern as far as elections go, what's being said in Japan about American politics--no. But sadly it's a reflection of what passes for online discourse in the US as well, on Twitter, on MSNBC, in the legacy papers.

People still watch msnbc?

They're deeply confused about politics, not privy to the education or level of discernment most of us have achieved in our lives. They're deeply scornful of both parties, neither of which has improved their lot in any measurable way for decades.

You can Thank a big portion of that on the liberal MSM for poisoning the well of political discourse by injecting emotion into every single topic, explosive, irrational and highly annoying.

-21 ( +1 / -22 )

Trump never takes responsibility for his lies and blunders. He could literally contradict himself in the same sentence and not bat an eyelid.

Of course. That a mentally unstable person is the most powerful person on the planet, spouting nonsense, incapable of speaking above a 3rd grade-level or remembering what he said 3 hours previously is of concern.

However, we can also recognize that this chaos theory of governance and communication is pawning all of us. Each new day we spend much of our time reacting to the latest outrage or contradiction. Some in defense, some to condemn, often pearls clutched. Either way, our discourse is a closed loop held in the palm of his little hand.

JT is only one very small pond of online debate but I reckon 98% of the political discussion that occurs here is about Trump, what he said, how vile he is, how he's in cahoots with Russia, plus those who disagree. Is this a great concern as far as elections go, what's being said in Japan about American politics--no. But sadly it's a reflection of what passes for online discourse in the US as well, on Twitter, on MSNBC, in the legacy papers. None of them are discussing policy, even those liberal in orientation (Chris Hayes for instance) spend most of their days absorbed with the scandal du jour.

And I've got news for you. I'm an American whose grandparents worked in mills, who still has many working class friends and family who I'll be seeing this summer, and if you think any of them give a flying - - - - about what DT is tweeting or about Mueller's investigation, you're delusional. I know I'm a white collar guy with too much leisure time on my hands. But I've not lost sight of what's going on outside of these silos. People back home, even those who disagree with us, are working hard and trying to make a living, worried if they can provide for their kids, pay their rent, ever retire. They're deeply confused about politics, not privy to the education or level of discernment most of us have achieved in our lives. They're deeply scornful of both parties, neither of which has improved their lot in any measurable way for decades.

So, when I read comments saying that 10s of millions of Americans are guilty of treason b/c they're Trump supporters it concerns me. Politics being the art of persuasion and all. Words, even in the age of Trump, have tremendous power. The next time the Democrats many of us support put FWD a candidate with crossover appeal, will they look at that candidate with an open mind or will they remember that they were accused of being unpatriotic, will they remember being scorned as ignorant white trash etc. Don't think every Trump supporter is like our resident trolls--and it's not like we're only talking about his most vocal supporters. Many are skeptical of Trump and never voted for him but they don't take kindly to having members of their family or their neighbors maligned.

The same Johnson who told porkies about Brexit and the NHS, who likened the Irish border situation to congestion charges, the same Johnson who helped plunge the UK into the current crisis and then bailed out?

Hmmm. For someone who supposedly doesn't care about the media, or Trump critics, you sure put in the hours proving otherwise.
