He should get used to it, they don’t allow cellphones in prison!,,

Ban him forever. Please.

They won't because ... advertising $$$, but we can dream. Just decommercialize his pages and don't allow any links off them or back into them if they aren't to .gov websites. Actually, this makes sense for all govt office accounts.

Hopefully, the new govt will make govt by tweet illegal. Govt communications should start and end from official, approved, .gov websites and registered news organizations.

Anyone else notice that Biden and Trump agree that Section 230 needs to be ended?

So, the faceless Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, executive administration will arbitrarily mandate and govern who can or cannot, the content of which is deemed to be political acceptable, or without any democratic accountability remove suspend an account they determine to violate or prescribe to be false?

Even the ostensibly anti-Trump media have been enablers and benefitted enormously from his sideshow extravaganza of the Presidency as reality show. Now the circus is moving on and the assault on the Capitol was the grande finale.

It wasn't done arbitrarily, quite obvious to many of us. Trump's comments and usage of media to spread lies wouldn't be possible without a really idiotic following who believes him, but they do. That necessitates some censorship of him. He and they caused it.

Although I understand the concern for free speech, it cannot be abused to the extent of what's happening with the Trump followers and conservative media, who's blatant 'alternative facts' are doublespeak in Orwellian terms.

Limits set are very difficult to determine, but this is the world we live in. It isn't cut and dried, nor what was considered a given...wanting the truth and justice in America, no longer exists with Trump and his supporters, along with right wing cherry picked false narratives in media.

Trump, who wanted desperately deploy the national guard for BLM protests, did not want to do so when the capitol was being attacked, today.

He's a traitor, a racist and good riddance to him.

sunfunbun, who will ultimately make or take that decision.

Should, the criteria be defined by what is quite obvious to many of us.

How many of us? .......

Us!

Make it permanent.

Is’t it time he fled the country seeking asylum from one of his despotic mates? Putin would welcome him.

It would be good to remind some people that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and all SNS are private companies with user agreements that completely have the right to ban or censor anyone who does not adhere to the rules of those user agreements. There is nothing strange, dangerous or out of place about that.

And repeatedly spewing lies that incite real-life violence is a perfectly valid reason for a ban.

Yes. Suck it up losers.

Newsmax went silent today! I guess Parler is loving it!

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube/ Google/Alphabet Inc. etc have taken it upon themselves to suspend Donald J. Trump, still the 45th President of the United States, that is until the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States 20th January 2021.

It is time that all social media platforms came under a fully transparent independent regulatory authority, accountable to the US constitution, through a full public congressional committee investigation decision making process.

Whether it is Donald Trump, Ronald McDonald, or Donald Duck, there needs to be oversight, followed by a legal framework.

There are too many commercial vested interests.

Bob, debate

I'm not Bob, but there's nothing to be debate here. Private companies have the right to do whatever they want with the users that accepted their EULA. It's their rules. Pretty much the basis of capitalism. If you're advocating for a governemental overtaking of private SNS platforms, that is quite simply radical communism.

That's the debate…. Jsapc.....

Free Speech and the Regulation of Social Media Content

As the Supreme Court has recognized, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter have become important venues for users to exercise free speech rights protected under the First Amendment. Commentators and legislators, however, have questioned whether these social media platforms are living up to their reputation as digital public forums.

Some have expressed concern that these sites are not doing enough to counter violent or false speech. At the same time, many argue that the platforms are unfairly banning and restricting access to potentially valuable speech.

That's the debate…. Jsapc.....

Again, there's nothing to debate. You are simply being salty because the bum of a president you support has finally faced the dangerous consequences of his actions on his favorite platforms. Free speech does not mean being able to lie so much that you start inciting riots and violence in the real world. One woman died tonight because Trump is a lying fool. He was rightfully censored. Stop whining. You're not advocating any form of real oversight, you just want your guy to be able to spout falsehoods freely.

One woman died tonight because Trump is a lying fool. He was rightfully censored.

Update: 4 people have died today at the Capitol Building due to this lying fool! Let's not forget the COVID-19 deaths, and the future deaths connected to this superspreader insurrection!

About time they suspend Trump's account, he keeps tweeting hateful comments like:

"I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!"

Jsapc, the subject of future regulation social media is being debated, decisions on a litigative, legislative  framework is in place for global/national debate.

The summer of 2020 was very consequential for online speech.

After years of national debate in the United States, several reform initiatives around the world, and the added pressure of the global pandemic, the demand for policy action finally boiled over. We are witnessing a shift in the primary driver of regulation from protecting innovation at all costs to ostensibly protecting aggrieved citizens at all cost. The U.S., Europe, and Brazil are in the throes of a fundamental intermediary liability legislative fight: who deserves safeguarding, what are the major threats, and can government rewrite the rules without pulling the plug on the internet as we know it? Let’s review what the period of debate is shaping up across the world and what it means for government action.

Like me absolutely clear to avoid any further confusion, Jsapc,

You are fundamentally mistaken to believe I am supportive of Donald Trump, there implications that weight far beyond the failures and behavior traits of one man.

This is going to be a hell of a series finale when Trump is dragged kicking and screaming from the white house. I never did like reality TV shows... but here we are.
