The Republicans can try to blame the Democrats but they control all branches of government and are refusing to negotiate. They expect the Democrats to lay down and play dead while they run over them.

People aren't stupid. They know who is to blame. And it's not the Democrats.

They expect the Democrats to lay down and play dead while they run over them.

Not so. The president has offered them the continuation of the DACA program in return for border security. Sounds like a fair proposal to me. Truth is, the Democrats do not want Trump to be successful because that would only hurt their chances of regaining the House this coming November.

The president has offered them the continuation of the DACA program in return for border security. Sounds like a fair proposal to me. Truth is, the Democrats do not want Trump to be successful because that would only hurt their chances of regaining the House this coming November.

Very true - and the Republicans previously showed that shutting down the government is a proven path to winning the next presidency.

The Republicans have all houses, and can't keep the government running? Ineptitude! And the Democrats will be sure to point that out in the next election.

The Republicans need to keep the government running, or they will lose the next presidency. And the Democrats are not going to approve their proposals until they drop the wall and keep the Daca.

Of course, the Republicans don't have to do that, but then the government gets shut down, and they lose the next presidency.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

The Republicans have all houses, and can't keep the government running? Ineptitude!

I would argue the Democrats not being able to beat the least popular man in America is inept. Also the govt never shuts down, that is a fallacy

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

I would argue the Democrats not being able to beat the least popular man in America is inept.

It's true, the Republicans came up with a winning strategy. Fortunately the Democrats were quick enough to pick it up, and are running in full force. The Republicans are going to fail to keep the government running, and the Democrats just have to point at their ineptness to run through the gate first at the polls.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

The Democrats have repeatedly been offered a deal on DACA: freeze immigration and create border security and DACA continues. The Democrats have balked as they want DACA and no changes in immigration policy and/or enforcement. The shut down, if one occurs, will be the fault of the Democrats. The assertion by one poster that Republicans "control all branches of government" is laughable and shows how little he or she knows about the US government. A super-majority would be necessary to ram legislation down the throats of the country and the Republicans do not have one. The Democrats can filibuster anything they do not like and often do. This is not necessarily a bad thing: the founders of the country did not want any one group to possess an unchallengeable monopoly of power.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

KKK Democrats in Washington DC are doing everything possible to derail and destroy US Government. They are even ignoring the Tax cuts that gave Americans extra money in their paychecks and are trying to ignore by shutting down US Government because Trump is doing much better than Obama did and the money is going to the people of America and America's friends instead of Hillary and the elitists. Democrats in US hates the fact that celebrities and established millionaire/billionaires are not getting their cut anymore. Even the Billionaire Oprah black woman said she wants all non blacks (whites, browns, asians) to all go die off. She is pro world depopulation with Bill Gates.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

The facts:

*"If money were to run out, many federal agencies would be shut down and workers sent home. But 'essential services' dealing with public safety and *national security would continue."

The Republican version:

"Some Republicans have argued a shutdown would hurt military readiness by disrupting supply chains and complicating planning and contracts."

Grasping at straws. Military readiness is included within "national security," which means it would not be greatly affected by a shutdown. Logic, Republicans, goes a long, long way.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It's true, the Republicans came up with a winning strategy.

no, the Dems beat themselves by running and fixing the primaries because they wanted to "make history" instead of letting the more popular candidate (Bernie) run. The Dems lost it themselves

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Never thought I'd say or even think this, but shut down the Federal Government if necessary.

McConnell stole the Supreme Court seat from President Obama along with a boatload of federal judgeships.

And, GOPers had no compunction about shutting down the government when it suited their agenda —— the ACA; a one-term President O.....

GOPers own the WH, the House and Senate. They can't govern or legislate and they'll own a government shutdown.

Dems need to push back —hard.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The Demas still have not learned their lesson, Bernie Sanders remains the most popular politician in America yet they are trying to keep him from running. Amazing ineptness

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

The Democrats have balked as they want DACA and no changes in immigration policy and/or enforcement.

Incorrect.

The shut down, if one occurs, will be the fault of the Democrats.

Heh, trying to blame the opposition for the winning party's failure has been shown to be the path to losing.

Even the Billionaire Oprah black woman said she wants all non blacks (whites, browns, asians) to all go die off.

And the smear campaign continues. She must really scare the Republicans a lot, if they are already going to these efforts to smear her off just the suggestion she may run.

Never thought I'd say or even think this, but shut down the Federal Government if necessary.

McConnell stole the Supreme Court seat from President Obama along with a boatload of federal judgeships.

The old strategies have been shown not to work. The Democrats are smart, shifting to the Republican strategy. It's the only way to win now.

The Demas still have not learned their lesson, Bernie Sanders remains the most popular politician in America yet they are trying to keep him from running. Amazing ineptness

Heh, you know it's really bad when they resort to Bernie comments!

Keep up the good work Democrats. There is literally no reason to bow to Trump's demands. Bow to them, and the deficit goes up to pay for an ineffective wall that will just line the pockets of Trump's companies. Refuse to bat, and the Republicans look bad for not keeping the government running.

It's a pretty clear path as to which is the smarter move to make.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I'd prefer a clean spending bill without extras whether it be the wall, defense spending, or DACA. Just keep them separate.

Trump complicated the talks by saying a six-year extension of funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a Democratic priority, should not be included. The White House later said the president fully backed the proposal pending in the House of Representatives, which includes the insurance plan.

Sigh. Trump has contradicted himself numerous times during the process. He literally doesn't know what his own positions are, which lends itself to McConnell's claim that his advisors are running the show. Either way, he needs to check with someone before sending out these Tweets.

Jimmy: did and the money is going to the people of America and America's friends instead of Hillary and the elitists. Democrats in US hates the fact that celebrities and established millionaire/billionaires are not getting their cut anymore.

Hillary, Donald, and the other elitists will get a far larger share of this tax cut than you or I will. They did throw a few crumbs on your plate, and looks like it was enough to make you happy. Congrats.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

All this is is a vote on a CR. It happens every three to six months. Our government never shuts down. Non-essential Federal employees are placed on furlough and receive back pay when they return to work; government entitlement programs such as welfare, food stamps remain in place. People will still be getting their monthly welfare checks and EBT cards on time.

Government 'shutdowns" have take place more than a dozen times in the past two-plus decades.

Nothing to see here, folks. Move on to the next made up outrage. . . .

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Don't worry, US politics is not to be taken seriously, its a diverting comedy played for their own entertainment, chill out, sit back with your popcorn and enjoy the show.

Everyone else does!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Ohh pretty smart counter by team red! Opposing to the point of a shutdown was previously shown to work, so now that they’re in the opposite position, they’re trying to reframe the shut down as being no big deal.

Smart counter-move.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

"They did throw a few crumbs on your plate, and looks like it was enough to make you happy."

Anyone following the stock market would know that Apple -- the largest corporation in this country -- giving its employees $2,500 in stock options is a tad bit more than "a few crumbs".

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Some people got a few broken of pieces and are happy!

I wonder how happy they will be when their kids have to pay for the whole pie that their parents only got those few broken off pieces from.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Anyone following the stock market would know that Apple -- the largest corporation in this country -- giving its employees $2,500 in stock options is a tad bit more than "a few crumbs".

That'll help the MAGA cap wearing Trump fan in Texas.

Instead of giving Apple tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks so they could share $2,500 of it per employee, why not give tens of billions of tax cuts to the middle class and have them buy Apple if they want to? We all get one slice of this pie and you are shoveling it off of your plate.

That's the beauty of the Republican Party: getting their base to vote against their own interests. I'm actually listening to a man tell me it's in his best interests to let Apple take much more than he takes because it will boomerang back around to him eventually.

Just masterful.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Newsflash GOPers: You control the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, 2/3rds of governors mansions, and 2/3rds of state legislatures. The days of blaming Democrats for your failures are over and EVERYONE knows it. You have to own this failure. You have no choice. Good luck in November.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

That's the beauty of the Republican Party: getting their base to vote against their own interests.

This used to really confuse me when I was younger. I couldn't understand why the poor and downtrodden would ever vote for a party that clearly only has the financial interests of the top few percent in mind.

Then I realized they do this in two ways:

They have tied their party up with morality. A lot of this morality is christian based, and a lot of poor people go to church. A lot of poor people are also not so well educated, so they don't learn how to treat each other in a moral fashion.

They have conned the poor into thinking that America is the land of opportunity, and one day they could be rich too, so don't vote against rich interests or you're voting against the future you! All while the party creates policies that keep the poor poor, and the rich rich, adding impediments to moving up in class.
5 ( +6 / -1 )

The Republicans can try to blame the Democrats but they control all branches of government and are refusing to negotiate.

No, they want to negotiate, but the Democrats want amnesty for the DACA kids and the GOP want funding for the wall and an end to the lottery system and chain migration should be limited to just the nuclear family and not extended family members. They almost had a deal but it seems Durbin was more willing to snag the President rather than take care of the dreamers. Both sides need to come to the table, but if the Dems think the GOP is going to compromise on these issues, then they’re sadly mistaken, the Dems have a lot more to lose on this, because as the President said, he’ll take the blame he doesn’t care, so if Dems are really serious they give the President what he wants and the Dems get what they want.

They expect the Democrats to lay down and play dead while they run over them.

They expect the Republicans to lay down and play dead while they run over them.

That’s why both sides have to meet in the middle.

People aren't stupid. They know who is to blame. And it's not the Democrats.

Government workers, I’m sure they will.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

That's another thing I don't understand with the US (with the electoral college).

No other country has a problem like that. Belgium stayed almost 2 years without a government, but public services still worked and people were still being paid.

I don't understand why americans are still so in love with a system that works so badly.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

And they honestly believe that a majority of the country will blame Democrats if there's a shutdown, and therefore, the Republicans will win again next November.

You've got to be really messed up in the head to not even recognize that you're crazy.

Or, put another way, really messed up in the head to be a voting supporter of the GOP and not recognize they're crazy.

But that's why Trump loves "the poorly educated." They are essential to continued Republican success.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Actually, it works well.

https://youtu.be/V6s7jB6-GoU

It’s so annoying to hear outsiders say what in our country works or what doesn’t work, so we have to model ourselves after Europe. What works in one country very well doesn’t always necessarily work well in another. If I want to be like Europe I would move there. They have their system and we have ours.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Nancy Pelosi said it best. The GOP proposal "is like giving you a bowl of doggy doo, putting a cherry on top, and calling it a chocolate sundae."

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The GOP could fund the government right now if they wanted to.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I don't understand why americans are still so in love with a system that works so badly

To be fair, not all of them are. I’ve discussed this with American people and many see the flaws in their system. I’ve also accepted fair criticism about the flaws in the system in my home country. A very interesting debate.

Some thin-skinned, inflexible, insular types see any comment on their country as either an attack on them, or people sticking their noses in where it doesn’t belong ( the same types will often comment negatively on other countries ).

You can’t really debate with these people.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Heh, you know it's really bad when they resort to Bernie comments!

keep ignoring the will of your Dem voters and rig your primaries to let a women win again and see what happens..

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Not if she is held to the same “fitness” abs “weight” standards that were suddenly and arbitrarily applied to Trump.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

It's funny that some posters think YouTube is a good source of information. The main reason Republicans/Conservatives like the Electoral College is because it is the only way their last two presidents have been elected. If this were reversed, we would be hearing cons discuss how archaic the Electoral College is.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

There were no "fitness" and "weight" standards arbitrarily applied to Trump. If that were true, he would not have been able to run for or become president.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

So why the big media hubbub the other day if not to imply he can’t perform the duties of the office? Why the insistence to not accept the results of excellent health?

Its fat shaming that media would never do to a woman or a liberal.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

anyway this whole thing is just a dem attempt to secure millions of future voters. That’s why they won’t even accept that the original law breaking parents are denied citizenship. Simply not enough for illegals to stay, they are unwanted by Dems without voting ability.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

And now they will chill out by voting themselves a raise for a 'job well done'. Then they will order out 100 pizzas and call up a local escort service for some fun, at public expense.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

There is no need for implying that Trump cannot perform the duties of the office of the president, all we need to do is watch his incompetence unfold before our eyes to know he cannot perform the duties of the president.

Yes, Democrats want open borders so they can secure future voters. What an asinine assertion.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why the insistence to not accept the results of excellent health?

Because it's already been shown those results were a lie, that he has heart disease, and that the white house scrubbed that test from the results.

What else did they scrub?

Once again, Trump has destroyed his own credibility, and now the right is complaining that he is not being taken as credible. Yes, that same right that goes on incessantly about 'taking personal responsibility', while supporting a man who has never taken personal responsibility for anything.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

anyway this whole thing is just a dem attempt to secure millions of future voters.

Gotta offset the gerrymandering and electoral college favoritism that leans towards the Republicans somehow.

Maybe if you guys stop stacking the deck in your favor, you won't need to come up with fantasies about how the democrats are stacking the deck in their favor. You can sleep better at night.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

And while they're at it, perhaps someone could ask where $107 million disappeared to?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/01/18/one-year-after-trumps-inauguration-no-one-say-how-they-spent-extra-money/1043804001/

2 ( +2 / -0 )

How are “we”stacking the deck in our favor? Went back in a time machine and created the electoral college and then amended it in 1804 just so Hillary would lose to the “worst candidate in history in 2016?

so who decided the medical results that that obama’s Doctor reported are fake? Must have missed that.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

How are “we”stacking the deck in our favor? Went back in a time machine and created the electoral college and then amended it in 1804 just so Hillary would lose to the “worst candidate in history in 2016?

Ok, maybe you didn't purposfully stack the deck in your favor, but regardless, it's stacked in your favor.

And you guys stack the deck in your favor with gerrymandering all the time.

So, the left needs to stack it back in their direction. Bring on the legal immigrants!

"Nancy Pelosi said it best. The GOP proposal "is like giving you a bowl of doggy doo, putting a cherry on top, and calling it a chocolate sundae."

Lest we forget how the democrats during Pelosi's "leadership" defunded our military stationed in Iraq. Families were purchasing boots, body armor and vehicle armor for their troops out of pocket to keep their relatives alive over there. The democrats are filth. . . .

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Lest we forget how the democrats during Pelosi's "leadership" defunded our military stationed in Iraq.

Hmm, you started that off with Lest we forget, then forgot who it was that actually defunded the military.

Seems you should have started that off with "lest we remember".

3 ( +4 / -1 )

bong keep ignoring the will of your Dem voters and rig your primaries to let a women win again and see what happens..yep Oprah will be the first woman POTUS.

As long as they get a free car, Im sure they would vote for her. Check under your seats.

Maybe if you guys stop stacking the deck in your favor, you won't need to come up with fantasies about how the democrats are stacking the deck in their favor. You can sleep better at night.

The Dems have the the media and the unions as well as Hollywood and the EPA, so in that sense, they have more than enough backup.

It's funny that some posters think YouTube is a good source of information.

Oh, I'm sorry, so tell me (LOL) where should the clueless go to get information that is intellectually satisfying for you that you approve of?

The main reason Republicans/Conservatives like the Electoral College is because it is the only way their last two presidents have been elected. If this were reversed, we would be hearing cons discuss how archaic the Electoral College is.

Democrats never had a problem with it until the last two elections, you just made my point Tommy. Why should California dictate the outcome of a presidency have have more say than Maine or New Jersey, that's just crazy. The left are the biggest whiners when things don't go their way, they claim they love the environment, if that's true, save a tree and stop crying, we won't have to make boxes of tissues.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Lest we forget how the democrats during Pelosi's "leadership" defunded our military stationed in Iraq. Families were purchasing boots, body armor and vehicle armor for their troops out of pocket to keep their relatives alive over there. The democrats are filth. . . .

If anyone is suffering from delusional dementia, it's her.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Yes bring the legal immigrants! But that’s not what you are bringing. You are trying to keep the illegal ones already here. I’m not a fan of rewarding criminals from other countries over our own citizens and legal immigrants who followed the rules.

If the Dems would just admit it’s a strategy for future votes I wouldn’t say a word. It’s just disgusting that they pretend to actually care about these people when they don’t.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Also the electoral college actually stacked in Dem favor. Remember the Trump has no path to 270 that the media blared on and on about? He would have to win every single battleground state to even have a chance!!The “blue wall”? None of this ringing a bell?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Love all the "proof" cons provide via YouTune that Dems want those horrible illegal aliens for votes.

First, Dems don't want all undocumented immigrants to be allowed to stay, just the ones whose parents took them to the US when they were children and had no ability to choose.

Second, I never commented on whether the electoral college was good. What I did do was explain why cons are so in favor of it: their last two presidents would never have been elected without it.

Third, if the US had a popular vote system, ot would be fair because the voters' voices would be heard. The current system has allowed a minority of voters to twice chose inept presidents.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The fact that the two most recent republican presidents were thrashed in the popular vote but won the electoral college demonstrates that the electoral college is not stacked in favor of the Dems. No "blue wall" assertions change this.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Hmm, you started that off with Lest we forget, then forgot who it was that actually defunded the military

Hmm. Let's think about a president who started a non-ending conflict whose administration promised would be a "cake walk" and never bothered to ask congress to fund it. Repubs are excellent at talking the talk but pathetic at walking the walk.

A major problem here is the schism between Repubs who want major cuts in domestic spending both to fund their tax cuts and increases in military spending and those who understand how unseemly this would appear at the moment - hence, kicking the can again. Terrible governance, but they asked for it.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Democrats giving away free cars is an extremely asinine statement.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Also the electoral college actually stacked in Dem favor. Remember the Trump has no path to 270 that the media blared on and on about? He would have to win every single battleground state to even have a chance!!The “blue wall”? None of this ringing a bell?

The Republicans have taken two out of the past five elections, without actually being the choice of the people. When was the last time the electoral college benefited the Democrats, hmm? Just thing, for twenty years worth of elections, you guys have had eight of them, 40%, due to the electoral college being stacked in favor of the Republicans.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Stranger: 3 of the last 5 have gone to Repubs. Bush twice, Obama twice, and the current train wreck.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Stranger: My bad. You are correct.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Regardless the Dem senators will be voting against the Children’s Health Insurance Program when they vote to not fund the government. Good luck with that and voting against tax cuts at election time.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The Republicans have taken two out of the past five elections, without actually being the choice of the people. When was the last time the electoral college benefited the Democrats, hmm?

Oh, that’s right. Lol

Just thing, for twenty years worth of elections, you guys have had eight of them, 40%, due to the electoral college being stacked in favor of the Republicans.

Ahhh, no wonder the Dems want California to be the main sayer in main elections, I get it. Maybe if the Dems could put forth real functioning policies they could win and here’s the best part, retain their majorities, but it always blows up in smoke when they start spending like drunken sailors and run on racism and identity politics.

Tex: Remember the Alamo? You know, when Texans had their arses handed to them by Mexicans?

Where is it now?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Regardless the Dem senators will be voting against the Children’s Health Insurance Program when they vote to not fund the government. Good luck with that and voting against tax cuts at election time.

Nothing to worry about. It's been shown that the people blame government shutdowns on the ruling party, because they are not governing.

Ahhh, no wonder the Dems want California to be the main sayer in main elections, I get it.

Not at all. One vote for one person. If Alabama suddenly gets a population explosion and has 30 million people, while California has a population decrease and has 3 million people, then Alabama should get 10x the say of other states. It has nothing to do with political affiliation, or what state it belongs to. It has to do with 'all men are created equal' and with being a democracy, where the leaders are supposed to be the choice of the majority of the people. Right now the system is anti-democratic, due to some voters being given more weight than others.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Not at all. One vote for one person. If Alabama suddenly gets a population explosion and has 30 million people, while California has a population decrease and has 3 million people, then Alabama should get 10x the say of other states.

That’ll never happen, Bama is not a sanctuary city, so the hypothetical “if” doesn’t apply.

It has nothing to do with political affiliation, or what state it belongs to. It has to do with 'all men are created equal' and with being a democracy, where the leaders are supposed to be the choice of the majority of the people. *

The Founding Fathers created the Electoral College after much debate and compromise, but it has provided stability to the process of picking presidents. Though the winner of the national popular vote typically takes the presidency, that vote failed to determine the winner in four elections: 1824, 1876, 1888, and 2000.

As one of The Heritage Foundations legal experts, Hans von Spakovsky, noted in a paper on the Electoral College: “In creating the basic architecture of the American government, the Founders struggled to satisfy each state’s demand for greater representation while attempting to balance popular sovereignty against the risk posed to the minority from majoritarian rule.”

Some elements of the Electoral College, such as the indirect vote through intermediaries, were hotly debated at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. It was eventually justified in part as a stopgap to potentially reverse the vote if the people elected a criminal, traitor, or similar kind of heinous person. The Founders wanted to empower democratic elements in the American system, but they feared a kind of pure, unrestrained democracy that had brought down great republics of the past.

The product of the Founders’ compromise has been well balanced and enduring, and we would be wise to leave it intact.

http://dailysignal.com/2016/11/07/why-the-founders-created-the-electoral-college/

Well, it looks fine to me. Thank God for it.

Blacklabel: If the Dems would just admit it’s a strategy for future votes I wouldn’t say a word

Can dreamers vote?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Truth is, the Democrats do not want Trump to be successful because that would only hurt their chances of regaining the House this coming November. dido, thats why they're called the opposition. Reps did it constantly under Obama, so why is it suddenly taboo when the Dems do it to Trump!? If Trump would put forward legislation that is acceptable for both parties instead of trying to bulldoze everything through congress then hed probably would have as much resistance as hes having now.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yes, Democrats want open borders so they can secure future voters. What an asinine assertion.

Dems are not even hiding it. Pelosi, Bernie, Schumer are international socialists in the mold of the old Soviets. Open borders is their idea of spreading the wealth (trickle-down government style) to their constituents, the prolitariate. Why else shut down the government and deny service to American citizens for the sake of 11-20 million illegal aliens? Nationality is irrelevant to them. That’s why they oppose a border boundary and e-verify and support sanctuary jurisdictions.

Dems know that importing voters from socialist leaning countries like Mexico and those in Central and South America will bring about a future Socialist America. Throw in the anti-Americanism spread by radical academics on college campuses and it’s pretty much a done deal at this point. Fighting over the now adult DACA people is small ball and only useful politically for stirring up the base with racial resentment.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I agree, so the Dems shouldn’t get angry when the GOP opposes them as well on issues that

If Trump would put forward legislation that is acceptable for both parties instead of trying to bulldoze everything through congress

You mean the way Obama did with his pen? Trump is trying that, but if the Dems say now, Trump is not going to go against his supporters and won’t negotiate on the border. If they were really serious they would sit down and try to do something for these dreamers, but they won’t.

then hed probably would have as much resistance as hes having now.

ROFL! You actually believe that? Lol

But there is not wall. And even so (1) who is going to pay and (2) it can't stop ladders

Trump is not going to go against his supporters
