So the rank-and-file Republican argument is, "I won't vote for it because D's can't get to 2/3rds, and they can't get to 2/3rds because I won't vote for it." Excellent. You're still undermining the Republic, you traitors.

White House statement, 2021:

"The current situation regarding unregulated firearms represents a humanitarian and security crisis that threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency," the White House statement warned.

The GOP better be careful here. They're opening up a Pandora's box with little upside in the short term but plenty down the road.

Agreed, Laguna. They think the lawsuit is about a wall. It's not. It's about whether the President has the legal authority to go around Congress by declaring national emergencies for pet projects with minority support. It's about the President being able to raid military funds for strictly political reasons.

The wall will just be the first time it's put into play, if it becomes legal. For future Presidents it will become a permanent fixture.

On the bright side, "winning" for the GOP will be to show support for a widely unpopular wall in order to protect Trump. It also shows that they are on board with transferring more of their power to the Executive Branch. Losing means Trump will have to veto his own party's legislation.

Just an amazing spot Trump and the GOP have put themselves in.

Do Democrats actually do anything anymore?

Oh, stop! That box was already opened when the last President used his pen and phone to issue DACA. We are already there and make no mistake, the Democrats would just as easily use a declaration if the opportunity arises. This dog and pony show that Democrats would be above issuing an order is a joke. They will do it either way or they could take the moral high ground and say, we don’t want to be like the Republicans so we will never use a declaration for a national emergency, but you know that’s not the case and you know they want to do it, that’s why Pelosi said, this could backfire on the Republicans, now why would she say that if she really thinks what Trump is doing is so bad? She doesn’t have to make that threat, but she does because she and the Dems know they want to do the same thing in the future.

93 trillion on a fairy tale ( Green New Deal ) but not 5 billion for a wall. Incredible...

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

We have no way to know this as we cant count those we dont catch nor see who just walks across in a place where there is no wall. How can you know who crosses the border undetected?

"Border crossings are at a four-decades low."

No, DACA was.

On the bright side, "winning" for the GOP will be to show support for a widely unpopular wall in order to protect Trump.

Yeah, the liberals keep passing along that myth...

It also shows that they are on board with transferring more of their power to the Executive Branch. Losing means Trump will have to veto his own party's legislation.

Wouldnt be the first time.

Just an amazing spot Trump and the GOP have put themselves in.

Well, no one told Obama to roll the dice with DACA, so here we are.

Yeah, its not like no Dem ever thought of using this for gun control or climate change.

If you could actually use an emergency declaration for such a thing, it would have been done already by a previous Dem president. So its pretty obvious it cant be done.

Finally, someone sees through the folly of this wall.

Big deal - still has to get past the Senate then signed by the President - the Democrats the great time wasters

The battle in Congress is the latest chapter in a long-running war between Trump and Democrats over border security, immigration policy and the "great, great wall" that Trump has pledged to build since becoming a presidential candidate.

"A great, great wall that Mexico will pay for, mark my words, mark my words"

You can certainly mark any word that comes out of Dimwit Donnie's mouth - mark it BS...

He originally promised that Mexico would pay for it, but after Mexico refused, he asked U.S. taxpayers to foot the bill for a project Democrats say is unneeded and will not be effective.

The "Trump Memorial We Hate Immigrants Wall" - with a small door so the ones that work at Mar-A-Lago and his golf courses can get in...

In his first two years in office, Trump's Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress, which under the U.S. Constitution holds the national purse strings.

They certainly did - and....

During that time they failed to appropriate all the money Trump was seeking to build a wall.

BINGO! Not so much of a national emergency for two whole years, was it?

This year, with Democrats in control of the House, Congress refused Trump's demand for $5.7 billion in wall funding. Instead, he got $1.37 billion for border barriers this fiscal year.

The operative word being "border barriers" - he got zero for a wall - Nancy slapped him silly...just like Ann Coulter...

Um, yeah:

Oh, stop! That box was already opened when the last President used his pen and phone to issue DACA.

Nope.

Trump had his chance to sell his wall to the American people, and they said NO. Had he tried something other than fear and BS, maybe things would have been different. Maybe he could have gotten majority support.

But he failed.

Super, I know it pains you deeply that the wall is being built, but try to get over it.

No, those are prototypes. And they will just use ladders anyway. Or shoes just to talk around it since it is so short.

Yeah, the Democrats care about border security and that defines as.....wait.....uh....but anyway, we care somewhat....

Feinstein had a Chinese spy...why?

BINGO! Not so much of a national emergency for two whole years, was it?

2013 it was a serious crisis, now it’s not.....what changed....ahhhh, the President. Lol

No, the Democrats said, No. The people overwhelmingly do want a wall and that number is rising.

Hogwash, it wouldn’t have mattered one bit, the Democrats were never going to let him have a win, they didn’t even care or wanted DACA resolved when Trump said he would give 2 million amnesty and Nancy and Chuck said, No. there you go.

Bass:. https://thehill.com/opinion/immigration/350217-americans-support-a-border-wall-more-than-the-media-wants-to-believe

Ah, yes. Bass' famous link from 2 years ago calling out a single poll because it didn't like how the question was asked. And that somehow trumps all of the recently polling data because....bass.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Remember that bass has said before that he doesn't take polls seriously, and doesn't think that anyone should trust them because they're unreliable. But he also thinks that this poll from almost 18 months ago, which quibbles and quavers over exact wording, when the truth is clear to everyone: the majority of Americans don't want the wall; the majority of Americans on the border don't want the wall; the majority of Americans don't like Trump.

And now Cohen has exposed even more lies and criminal activity by the world's stupidest hair donor recipient. And once again, the right wingers here blither and deflect.

Serrano, the wall isn't being built. Open your eyes.

He "asked" taxpayers to foot the bill? No, he has decided that taxpayers will foot the bill. He isn't giving anyone a choice in the matter.
