Who ended the Iran deal, again?

That deal sucked. And ending a deal justifies terrorist attacks?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

So the attacks on Americans in Iraq are "provoking Iran," eh?

:-), yeah reading some post the post here is like playing those fantasy computer game. You don't know if the opponents are real or not.

Provoking Iran LOL....ROTFL...

Iran doesn't need much provoking.

Iran attacks and captures an oil tanker - Donnie shrugs...

Iran shoots down a $1 million US drone - Donnie says so what...

More than enough oil to go around and you can rebuild a drone

And Donnie did nothing....

Iran attacks a Saudi oil field and knocks out half its capacity - Donnie says shame on you...

We need the Saudis, wouldn’t matter who’s in office, nothing would have been done about it.

And Donnie did nothing...

Iran proxies attack and burn a desk at the US Embassy

Attacked, rushed, broke into US sovereign ground. Yeah, I’d say that’s good enough reason an as.......

So if he has such good relations with the Iraq President, why wasn't the Iraq government there protecting it?

Donnie kills their top General...On the same day he's tied directly to the Ukraine scandal...

Killing the General was a good thing considering what he was and as far as Ukraine is concerned it still won’t help the Dems win.

"Good thing" - best example of a NEOCON argument I've heard - just admit it - Repubs love wars in the Middle East. All that talk about "Bringing the Troops Home" was just more Trump BS and scam - and the Trumpers all fell for it - just read their posts from two months ago....LOL.

Welcome to the third Repub Middle East War....

And did you notice oil prices have jumped? Putin says thanks Donnie....cross another one of the list....

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Killing the General was a good thing considering what he was

I think we have not yet reached that point where one can say 'it's a good thing'.

IMHO, it's good if Trump was able to tease out the cat n mouse game that Iran has been playing. Let's wait and see.

It's bad if this is just more of a continuation of Obama's race to tge bottom (standoff drone attacks), because it would just p1ss off the population whilst achieving minimal strategic gains.

The country most blindsided in all this is Japan, it has just completed its dialogue with Iran, about to depliy resources there....bad move at any level.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Humiliated how?

The correspondence dinner (here):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9mzJhvC-8E

Trump was such a vengeful baby we have what we have going on how in the middle east.

We are criticizing Donny for having gotten us into a situation in which our embassy was attacked

Sure, just blame the president for the actions of terrorists. Jeeze...

He didn't just say that, did he? After 10 Bengahzi investigations that even Repub Kevin McCarthy admitted was just a political smear?

So, your statement above applies to Bengahzi too, right? Or are you going to give us another Trumper flip-flop example?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

You weren't actually attacked, though.

Attacking our embassy is a direct attack on the US.

.So, this nonsense "you're either with us or against us" that Dubya used previously? It's not going to fly this time round, either.

Doesn’t have to, if Iran wants to tango, they got a partner.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Nobody wins in this war.

No body wins in any war! But you should have stopped there, because the rest of your post is just pure fantasy.

one country that really wants the US to clobber Iran on its behalf.

Just happens to be put there by western powers...and conveniently as a proxy target for western allies. Going by your post, you'd rather the arabs takes the war to your home soil...

That country cares nothing about American lives lost or the millions that will live in poverty to fund this huge undertaking

...and yeah, in this fantasy world of your, oil and energy security doesn't exist, nor does petro-dollar, nor does allies....

I said years ago that war between Iran and the US was a given and here we are.

always easy to predict fuctional fantasy. It has been 40 years, still no war, meanwhile Afghanistan has been turned over twice....

The people that want war will keep provoking Iran until they get it

LOL, they kidnapped 52 Americans and the fantasy says Iran was provoked....I suppose your fantasy wants to blame USA for Iraq/Iran war too...

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Trump hates Obama because he was humiliated

What are you on about now, nishikat? Humiliated how? it's Obama who's being the one humiliated with all these manufacturing jobs coming back that he said were never coming back.

The people that want war will keep provoking Iran until they get it.

So the attacks on Americans in Iraq are "provoking Iran," eh?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Riiiiiight.

Right because Hillary's policy would have have been based on revenge as shown with proof that Trump's is. Obama made fun of Trump. Trump can't take it so he is on a mad rampage policy of hate and revenge. Glad we agree.

Sure, just blame the president for the actions of terrorists

Yes

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Hmmmm.......

0 ( +2 / -2 )

So ok President Liberal, what would your response have been after your embassy was attacked by armed Iranian terrorists

It would not have happened under Hilllary.

Riiiiiight.

We are criticizing Donny for having gotten us into a situation in which our embassy was attacked

Sure, just blame the president for the actions of terrorists. Jeeze...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

This is why the escalation is happening under Trump's watch. It stems from here:

The most scathing burn Trump received at the dinner came in 2011, when he attended as a guest of the Washington Post. At the time, Trump was in his heyday of promoting the “birther” conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama and hinting at a possible run for office the following year.

Taking advantage of his attendance at the dinner, Obama dug in to Trump to poke fun at the real estate mogul’s business dealings and doubts about the president’s place of birth.

(news source)

Trump hates Obama because he was humiliated and wants to get back at him by reversing all his policies (including the Iran deal). And it looks like more war in the middle east.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Nobody wins in this war.

Except one country that really wants the US to clobber Iran on its behalf.

That country cares nothing about American lives lost or the millions that will live in poverty to fund this huge undertaking.

I said years ago that war between Iran and the US was a given and here we are.

I'm sorry folks, it's preordained.

The people that want war will keep provoking Iran until they get it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Just look at all the Trumpers twisting themselves into pretzels trying to justify Donnie new Middle East War. Just call this Repub MEW 3.0.

Here a few months ago they were rallying behind the "Bring the Troops Home" lie and howling that its time to leave Syria to the Russians and the Turks.

But as soon as Donnie does a Wag the Dog to deflect from emails proving he directed the Ukraine aid to be withheld, they all turn in to NEOCONs....

Welcome to Shock and Awe II - courtesy of the Great Orange Flip-Flopper - the one that in 2016 said the Iraq War was the worst foreign policy mistake in our country's history...

More young American men and women dying in the sand...the one Repub core value that has not been tossed over...

6 ( +6 / -0 )

US Senator Chris Murphy: "Soleimani was an enemy of the United States. That’s not a question. The question is this - as reports suggest, did America just assassinate, without any congressional authorization, the second most powerful person in Iran, knowingly setting off a potential massive regional war?"

Patriot Act and Homeland Security. Read it.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

the US response to the embassy attack that you are criticizing, what should it have been instead?

No, I would not have retaliated and killed the general. (if I were Trump) I would have cut my losses and return to the Iran nuclear treaty so there are no further attacks by Iran. If Iran doesn't have sanctions it means they have better things to do than attack American interests. This all happened after Trump pulled out of the treaty. Remember what Reagan did after the 1983 Beirut barracks bombings? That was sane. What Trump is doing is not. Do something along the lines that Reagan did. That is what Trump should be doing now.

Trump but don’t have anything better.

I do (check above). And thinking of something better. Does Trump have something better than ObamaCare? Healthcare costs are going up and up and up (under Trump). He cancelled it but does not have anything better.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

So what was all that stuff that was destroyed and set on fire by all those armed militia from a known terrorist group? thats ridiculous, come on....say the same people who call a tweet an “attack”.

You weren't actually attacked, though.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

There is no middle ground here once we were attacked.

You weren't actually attacked, though.

From the article: No one was killed or wounded in the protests, which breached the compound but appeared to be mainly a show of force.

So, this nonsense "you're either with us or against us" that Dubya used previously? It's not going to fly this time round, either.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

nishikat

Of course it means Obama made this great economy. Thanks for confirming.

It is Obamas economy as long as it is good. When it turns bad, it becomes Trumps economy. Didnt you learn that yet? Pay better attention to the media.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I agree with Laguna. But the Iranians have been strongly protesting about their lives at the end of last year. The reaction will come but we won't know when. Could be days, months, years.

America-Iran tit-for-tat.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

It’s still Obama’s economy, right?

That means Obama better than Trump with the economy then. How can a businessman who has gone bankrupt many times run a country anyway (unlike Bill Gates). Of course it means Obama made this great economy. Thanks for confirming.

And don’t worry about the wall

The Mexicans sure are not with their ladders. In fact that joke of a wall is so short they just need shoes to walk around it.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

So get to disavowing terrorists or pledge your support.

I disavow terrorists in the White House, The Kremlin, Beijing and those in the Middle East. That includes those in Iran, Syria, Israel, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

This list is by no means exhaustive.

Not playing the what if game.

It would be pointless, like asking ...

what would you have done?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

in President Trumps exact situation yesterday what would you have done?

It would not have happened under Hillary. Hillary did not have a hate-based policy based on revenge like Trump does (because he was humiliated by Obama at the WH correspondence dinner). His diplomacy is failing like his wall (that Mexico won't pay for anyway). This is Trump's fault. Good economy? OK, that's Trump. Expensive healthcare? OK, Trump failed on healthcare. Wall failing? On Trump. Embassy attack? All on Trump. This is all on Trump. Why not just focus on good things he is going like the high stock prices and low unemployment. The Trump economy is red hot so why do you care what happens all the way in a country you will never visit?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Right and wrong here are impossible to discern, but one thing is certain: America killing Soleiman has opened a can of worms that cannot be resealed. Some have said that the US will either have to exit Libya and Iraq or face full-on war. Not that that's bad: the only thing I like about Trump is his reluctance to engage in warfare. But he's now boxed himself in a corner - full-out warfare or retreat.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So ok President Liberal, what would your response have been after your embassy was attacked by armed Iranian terrorists

It would not have happened under Hilllary. Remember, Trump was humiliated by Obama at the correspondence dinner so he Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear agreement and now we have this. It would not have happened if Hillary were president.

elected President of the United States

Yes, Trump made this happen, correct.

US voters are not going to support terrorists over taking action against the same people who attacked our embassy.

Yes, but it would not have been an issue if Hillary were president. But good point.

Just helping Trump 2020 become even more of a landslide.

Depends if Trump can keep the economy up and the wall being built (which is a joke because of ladders)

3 ( +3 / -0 )

All of you liberals just want to criticize. So ok President Liberal, what would your response have been after your embassy was attacked by armed Iranian terrorists and their leader responded with “nothing you can do about it”?

I’ll wait....

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Can't speak for liberals, but I don't support terrorists in Tehran nor terrorists in Washington DC.

Liberals seem to be on the side of Tehran sticking to the US. Wow!

Now, I don't miss the departed General but I do worry about the people of Iraq and Iran, and what it means for the Middle East, in, er, general.

The Mullahs in Iran are to blame, no one told them to put the lives of their people in jeopardy, they’re the problem of that nation, not the average Iranian.

I read a wide variety of news organs and websites, over the years. I recommend others do so as well, to measure opinions other than mine own.

I think most do.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

There are only two sides here, “provoked” Iranian terrorists or the elected President of the United States righteously defending his embassy.

pick a side libs. There is no middle ground here once we were attacked. So get to disavowing terrorists or pledge your support.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

so liberals on the Internet, enjoy yourself happily supporting Iran and terrorism.

Can't speak for liberals, but I don't support terrorists in Tehran nor terrorists in Washington DC.

Just helping Trump 2020 become even more of a landslide.*

Yes, nothing like a conflict to distract from corruption and domestic ills.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Oh yeah we heard about it. And none of you called him out for doing it, which is the point. After the fact, it’s always oh yeah Dems shouldn’t do that either! As you are trying to crucify Repubs for doing exactly what Dems already did.

Warmongers should be brought to justice. Whatever their political affiliations or countries they govern.

Now, I don't miss the departed General but I do worry about the people of Iraq and Iran, and what it means for the Middle East, in, er, general.

but when it’s going on and you can call it out or stop it, total silence.

I read a wide variety of news organs and websites, over the years. I recommend others do so as well, to measure opinions other than mine own.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Provoking Iran? They’ve been provoking us since 1979, so yeah, let’s not try or attempt to re-write history.

You say you don’t want to try to rewrite history after having tried to re-write history by claiming Iran has been provoking us since 1979 as if that were the start of Iran-US relations.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Regardless, US voters are not going to support terrorists over taking action against the same people who attacked our embassy.

so liberals on the Internet, enjoy yourself happily supporting Iran and terrorism. Just helping Trump 2020 become even more of a landslide.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Obama was president and he did drone strike American citizens and weddings.

"Whataboutobama" is beside the point. Like every other POTUS he spilled buckets of blood around the world and even pocketed a Nobel Peace Prize. Since US leaders all enjoy immunity and kill with impunity they have to live with their conscience, if they have one.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

On the Iraq invasion, one of the few politicians who stood up against it was Obama

Obama wasn't even a senator until 2005, 2 years after the invasion, so no, he didn't stand up against it.

Easy to say years later he was against it.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Oh yeah we heard about it. And none of you called him out for doing it, which is the point. After the fact, it’s always oh yeah Dems shouldn’t do that either! As you are trying to crucify Repubs for doing exactly what Dems already did.

but when it’s going on and you can call it out or stop it, total silence.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Obama was president and he did drone strike American citizens and weddings. Not talking about now, why didn’t we hear anything about it when he did it then?

Because whatever Obama did was wonderful. Whateever orange man does is horrible. Didn´t get the message yet?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

If it will get Nancy to actually send the impeachment, please do. but she and 80% of Dems signed off on the NDAA which removed from the final draft the requirement to have Congress informed first.. took their eye off the hall once again.

Just add illegal and unauthorized assassination to the list of articles of impeachment

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

let’s stop being obtuse.

Obama was president and he did drone strike American citizens and weddings. Not talking about now, why didn’t we hear anything about it when he did it then?

cause you were fine with it! cause “Terrorists” and stuff and #tansuitmangood!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Question: How come Bush wasn't impeached for illegally invading Iraq, but Trump is being impeached ( as soon as the House sends the articles of impeachment to the Senate )

Someone still doesn’t know how impeachment works. Tee Hee!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Serrano sure cheered on the last dumbass Republican war in Iraq on JT. Amazing the way the cult will drop on all fours and support whatever dear leader says no matter how contradictory...

And besides, doesn't an unpopular, Insane Party president always start a war in the Middle East in his third year in an effort to distract from his woes at home ?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Just add illegal and unauthorized assassination to the list of articles of impeachment. And the world can't just sit back and do nothing about this deranged, loose-cannon of a POTUS.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Answer: Hillary voted for the invasion, and the Democrats have Trump Derangement Syndrome

On the Iraq invasion, one of the few politicians who stood up against it was Obama. The mainstream media in the US, left and right, were largely cheerleading for it. What was your view? I resigned my membership of the UK Labour Party and didn’t vote for them for the only time in my life in 2005. The US right change with the weather given whatever stupidity Trump has just tweeted or who he’s just bombed.

What was your view on Iraq?

Trump at that time was maybe appearing on reality TV or bankrupting a casino. He of course lied about his views on the Iraq invasion.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Question: How come Bush wasn't impeached for illegally invading Iraq, but Trump is being impeached ( as soon as the House sends the articles of impeachment to the Senate ) for making a phone call to the president of Ukraine, asking him to investigate corruption?

Answer: Hillary voted for the invasion, and the Democrats have Trump Derangement Syndrome.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Yeah, funny, we never hear a peep about those from the orange-man-bad crowd.

Could be because Obama isn't Commander in Chief anymore & didn't pull out of the deal & didn't order this strike?

But, obvious deflections aside, I don't know anyone here (or in real life) who supported the last bout of warmongering.

Democrat, Republican... whoever is in charge of the rogue state has blood on their hands.

Disgusting.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Nice deflection

And as usual liberals don’t have the answers, typical

Neither. Do. You.

Never said I did, but I do know one thing for a fact. The US is not going to sit there like an idiot and allow Iran, NK or any of our other adversaries to think it could never respond to any threat without thinking of countermeasures.

Trump ripped up the Iran nuclear agreement. Trump started this mess. For whose benefit?

Obama actually did when he tried to make a deal with a country we had No diplomatic relations with, how dumb!

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

And Obama drone strikes were perfectly fine and legal, even on American citizens.

Yeah, funny, we never hear a peep about those from the orange-man-bad crowd.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Trump did not start this mess

Trump ripped up the Iran nuclear agreement. Trump started this mess. For whose benefit?

And Russia (as opposed to the Sovjet Union and the US) does not have a history of illegal wars.

How about these below? Or are you saying according to 'Moscow rules' they're 'legal'? But as my Russian colleagues used to say, anything goes when 'Moscow rules' are applied and no one's strong enough to oppose them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Russia#RussianFederation(1991%E2%80%93present)

anti-Russia hate perpetrated by our swamp politicians and fake media.

I fear all totalitarian states. And their media, e.g. RT, Sputnik, etc. Would fake media include stories spun on social media by trolls working for state financed groups like the Internet Research Agency?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

President Trump has paid $2 million to eight charities as part of a settlement in which the president admitted he misused funds raised by the Donald J. Trump Foundation to promote his presidential bid and pay off business debts, the New York State attorney general said on Tuesday.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/10/nyregion/trump-foundation-lawsuit-attorney-general.html

Stealing, in other words. And he lied about it, at first.

As part of the settlement, Mr. Trump, who at first dismissed the suit as a political attack, made 19 detailed admissions, acknowledging, for example, that the foundation had purchased the $10,000 portrait of himself that was ultimately displayed at one of his Florida hotels.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Many have said that President Trump was all bark and no bite—now your wishes have come true....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump could start a war with Iran

Trump's not going to start a war with Iran, he wants to build a Trump Tower in Tehran and do business with these people. Unlike Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb McCain who wanted to bomb Iran.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Trump did not start this mess, he inherited this from his warmongering predecessors.

So you’re saying he’s been ineffective on this score?

Are you still playing the whimpering ‘he’s trying’ excuse?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

What? Well, as Trump said, he will get the money for wall somehow, so if Dems want to try and block them, he’ll seek it somewhere else, thanks Nancy.

By ripping off charities, which his supporters endorse. And isn't Mexico paying for the wall? How's that going?

Since when have the Dems cared about the troops on any level? Oh, since Trump’s been in office. They now have become religious, love Bolton and want to remain in the ME. Fascinating!

Nice deflection, there. Doesn't answer the question, though.

You don’t know what the US is developing to counter all of these measures

Neither. Do. You.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Except the money Trump ripped off from his VET charity was to buy portrait paintings of himself. Fined $2 million.

Except one thing...

https://www.factcheck.org/2019/11/posts-falsely-claim-trump-stole-from-vets/

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

What? Well, as Trump said, he will get the money for wall somehow, so if Dems want to try and block them, he’ll seek it somewhere else, thanks Nancy.

Except the money Trump ripped off from his VET charity was to buy portrait paintings of himself. Fined $2 million.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Ptownsend:

GoTrumpers: If the US had a role in the bombing, why is the US still there? Are y'all on Russia's side or the US's? Both look like evil empires to me.

Trump did not start this mess, he inherited this from his warmongering predecessors. And Russia (as opposed to the Sovjet Union and the US) does not have a history of illegal wars. It seems to me you have swalled the anti-Russia hate perpetrated by our swamp politicians and fake media.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

thanks to Trump you may just get what you so dread, Iran developing nukes now will most likely respond to this assassination,

Even Iran knows what the consequences of that would be. As crazy as they claim to be, one thing they’re definitely not is “stupid.”

Russia developing hypersonic missiles, NK developing missiles with the nukes to go with it, so explain to me how the world is a safer place now Trumps POTUS!?

You don’t know what the US is developing to counter all of these measures

Trump could start a war with Iran and Trumptards would say it was necessary and better than what Obama did.

At least he’s not giving the Iranians blankets to stay warm.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

And then the Commander In Chief rips off your charities and some of his supporters have a laugh when US soldiers are killed.

What? Well, as Trump said, he will get the money for wall somehow, so if Dems want to try and block them, he’ll seek it somewhere else, thanks Nancy.

What kind of price is that?

Since when have the Dems cared about the troops on any level? Oh, since Trump’s been in office. They now have become religious, love Bolton and want to remain in the ME. Fascinating!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

What a cowardly county. Too chicken to face this General on a battlefield so they sucker punch him with a missile during peacetime while he's greeting his friends.

Only wimps and cowards sucker punch.

That's something the former Iraqi Information Minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf aka Baghdad Bob would say:

"There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!"

"My feelings - as usual - we will slaughter them all"

"Our initial assessment is that they will all die"

"They're coming to surrender or be burned in their tanks."

"Who are in control, they are not in control of anything - they don't even control themselves!"

"I can say, and I am responsible for what I am saying, that they have

started to commit suicide under the walls of Baghdad. We will encourage them to commit more suicides quickly."

"We have destroyed 2 tanks, fighter planes, 2 helicopters and their shovels - We have driven them back."

"Today we slaughtered them in the airport. They are out of Saddam International Airport."

"The force that was in the airport, this force was destroyed."

"We're giving them a real lesson today. Heavy doesn't accurately describe the level of casualties we have inflicted."

"Their infidels are committing suicide by the hundreds on the gates of Baghdad. Be assured, Baghdad is safe, protected."

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Just out of curiosity, what was the head of Iran's elite Quds Force doing in Iraq? I doubt he was on vacation.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Trump is not Putin's puppet, because Russia has condemn this assassination as not only a gross violation of Iraqi sovereignty but as the murder of a general in peacetime.

Waiting to see which Democrats will stand up to the Deep State and side with Russia in condemning this.

Burning Bush - your normally uncritical support for Trump and his administration is again only broken when he takes action which might be contrary to Russian foreign policy.

I will be critical of Trump's actions, but will not be joining the gangster Putin in doing anything.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Heh. Trump's foreign policy claim to fame is that he din't embroil America in any new foreign wars. Guess what's gonna change real soon. Stooopid.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

As well as the US that will fight them.

And the cycle continues.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Yes, but that’s the price that could be paid when you join the military, being deployed and sent into harms way.

And then the Commander In Chief rips off your charities and some of his supporters have a laugh when US soldiers are killed.

What kind of price is that?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Not very likely. The region has a long memory. Expect a new generation, of those who didn't appreciate US interference, to crop up in the future.

As well as the US that will fight them.

The US never learns. Sadly.

Neither do the radicals in the ME.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

It will never be a distant memory for those who lost a loved one or VET's returning minus limps. PTSD. The cost of $5 trillion.

Yes, but that’s the price that could be paid when you join the military, being deployed and sent into harms way.

How many troops returned home under Trump? Trump, who has sent 14,000 more troops to the Middle East since May,

We didn’t have our embassy bombed out either.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

The US is a bully that blatantly and openly disregards sovereignty and murders people in cold blood on public streets.

Aye, it does that. No argument there.

But there's another super power/rogue nation or two, that also engages in dispatching enemies/critics etc in cold blood.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Good, but Afghanistan will soon be a distant memory, slowly, but surely.

Not very likely. The region has a long memory. Expect a new generation, of those who didn't appreciate US interference, to crop up in the future.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Only wimps and cowards sucker punch.

Nutshell description of the global right's hero Trump.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Good, but Afghanistan will soon be a distant memory, slowly, but surely.

It will never be a distant memory for those who lost a loved one or VET's returning minus limps. PTSD. The cost of $5 trillion.

2001-2017 2,298 troops killed. Until mid 2019 2400 killed. 1,720 U.S. civilian contractor fatalities.

30,000 civilian deaths.

How many troops returned home under Trump? Trump, who has sent 14,000 more troops to the Middle East since May,

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The rogue US has done it again.

No all you liberals here are gleeful in your hate of Trump for taking necessary action after numerous provocations by Iran.

A reminder that it was Iran who were sticking to the deal that Trump welched on.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

If an American dies in Iraq, it is the responsibility of Iraqi police and justice system.

The US is a bully that blatantly and openly disregards sovereignty and murders people in cold blood on public streets.

What a cowardly county. Too chicken to face this General on a battlefield so they sucker punch him with a missile during peacetime while he's greeting his friends.

Only wimps and cowards sucker punch.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Obama.

Obama? Obama gave cash terrorists? And Trump didn't have Barr arrest him? That's all on Trump. Trump is weak. All talk and no action on the Trumps. The Liberals are walking all over Trump and proof is Trump allowing Obama to get away with giving cash to terrorists.

Is Trump going to invade Iran (2x the population of Iraq)? Or is Trump all talk and no action. Just like not arresting Obama for giving cash to terrorists or failing with his Mexico border wall. When Iran attacks US interests in the future again (and they will) what is the US going to do about it?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Provoking Iran? They’ve been provoking us since 1979, so yeah, let’s not try or attempt to re-write history.

Yeah right, remember the Shah fiasco and how it happened? So let's not try to re write history indeed. The current escalation would not be happening if Donny didn't decide it's all right to go around ripping up international agreements at will.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

No they are. Trump is just deploying them elsewhere.

Those are already deployed troops, that’s not what I meant.

The are 175,000 troops at about 830 oversea bases

Good, but Afghanistan will soon be a distant memory, slowly, but surely.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

We have a Republican administration - that means more wars in the Middle East.

How many more wars in the Middle East during the past 3 years? Zero.

And yeah, Obama did such a bang-up job getting us out of the Middle East during his 8 years.

Oh, wait, he didn't.

Send more pallets of cash and tell Iran to “knock it off”?

Who would do this?

Obama. Except he wouldn't tell them to knock it off, he'd apologize for killing their general, who, believe me, caused a lot of misery for many, including U.S. troops in Iraq, and you wouldn't want at your dinner table.

What was Gen. Soliemani doing in Iraq, anyway?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Until our embassy was bombed to..

Iraq is supposed to protect the embassy, not the USA. Iraq failed too. Iraq is a sovereign country.

Unless they attack or bomb US interests.

Iran vows 'harsh' response to US killing of top general

(news quote)

Looks like it's going to happen. And what is the USA going to do? Iran is 2x the size of Iraq in terms of population.

The Pentagon announces the US killed Iranian military leader in a strike

(news headline)

And there are many other Iranian military leaders (in a country of 80m). It's like when a company executive dies. What happens? They get another one? In a big country like Iran this is not a problem.

This is all on Trump because of his hatred towards Hillary

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Under Trump the numbers of troops overseas have increased.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Do you hear something?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Most are coming home.

No they are. Trump is just deploying them elsewhere.

The are 175,000 troops at about 830 oversea bases.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Trump playing his supporters again - when will they learn...

@bas4Like the Democrats, probably never.

Trump supporters never learn? Have Trump supporters dumped their political messiah (impeached) and switched allegiance to their Russian icon's global bund, which includes Iran.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Make no mistake, the tension between the US and Iran is all about Israel. The Iranians despise Israel and it's brutal oppression of the Palestinians and the US is hellbent on protecting Israel at any cost. I'm not defending the Iran by any means, but the US's support for Israel's actions is completely unacceptable.

This is one area I agreed with Obama on. He was not supportive of Israel.

May God have mercy on the poor Palestinians and somehow bring peace to the region.

This is something entirely different, we had our embassy bombed. Has nothing to do with nation building.

Yes, I think so

Unless they attack or bomb US interests.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Provoking Iran? They’ve been provoking us since 1979, so yeah, let’s not try or attempt to re-write history.

Oh, sure. Cherry-pick your date and pretend that the history of US-Iran relations began in 1979.

1953? The coup that overthrew the Government of Iran and put in the Shah, detested by the majority of Iranians? A coup masterminded and a regime supported by the US of A? Doesn't count as a provocation in your book? The events of 1979 were just a delayed response to that.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

“the game has changed”. ( again )

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Completely wrong move by President Trump.

The U.S.'s hatred for and antagonistic attitude towards Iran and knee jerk, vindictive, retaliatory actions like this just promote the continued cycle of ME violence and hatred. No doubt Trump was moved by his own counter punching personality and egged on by his Jewish friends, relatives and theologically misguided evangelical backers who hate Iran with a vengeance.

President Trump ought to stick to his usual policy of peaceful engagement with rogue nations.

That darn Hillary. It's her fault that Trump will have to respond to this expected retaliation. More fighting coming (under Trump's watch)

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Hopefully....

Doesn't sound very convincing. Remember, Iran is not a small country (80m). In terms of population it is 2x the size of Iraq. Iran will continue to ramp up their weapons program because of Trump's hatred towards Hillary. It will not stop. Should Trump invade Iran? Remember, Iran's population is 2x that of Iraq.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

As we all know; there peace lovers, and peace makers. We all love peace; but sometimes we have to fight for peace. Well done President!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Hopefully Iran will get the message that Obama and Kerry aren’t in charge anymore and there won’t need to be any next attack.

What's the next attack?

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

There will be no more attacks from Iran? This is finished? 100%?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Well done Donny, on this I support you !!..

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Big mistake. somebody mistook his Twitter tough guy persona for real life and it got his homies taken out permanently.

What's the next attack?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Finally a U.S. President with a Backbone. President Trump is a leader and protecting our embassy unlike his predecessors. God bless President Trump and America!!!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

In retrospect perhaps it is a good thing that Trump has not been given the Nobel Prize for Peace.

By the way, I bet that Mr Kim in DPRK has just sat straight up in his chair and taken very close notice.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Iran had their chance. Their leader said “you can’t do anything” in response to the embassy attack then flew in his top General to meet the attack leader and continue their plans together.

Big mistake. somebody mistook his Twitter tough guy persona for real life and it got his homies taken out permanently.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Send more pallets of cash and tell Iran to “knock it off”?

Who would do this?

No all you liberals here are gleeful in your hate of Trump for taking necessary action after numerous provocations by Iran.

But the attacks against US interests happened under Trump's watch. It's his fault - just like his joke of a wall is his fault - just like the good economy is due to Trump's business genius. What do these terrorist attacks have to do with Hillary? Trump is in the WH, not Hillary. Why so obsessed over Hillary?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

As someone has suggested on another site, a dummy bomb right beside their car might have been enough to give them a subtle hint without stirring up the hornet's nest.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

No all you liberals here are gleeful in your hate of Trump for taking necessary action after numerous provocations by Iran.

what would you have the USA do? Send more pallets of cash and tell Iran to “knock it off”?

0 ( +7 / -7 )

This is bigger than little Trump/Hillary frog-in-a-well politics now.

Just looking at the bigger picture for a moment, I remember that when the Iranian leadership were planning September's attack on Aramco in Saudi, Iran's leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the Republican Guards not to take any American lives. They knew the rules of the 'game' at the time.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

shooting down their drone? Attacking oil fields in Saidi? Attacking their embassy in Iraq?

Yes, as a result of Trump (this all happened under Trump's watch due to his hatred towards Hillary and the Deep State

liberals just can’t help to support even terrorist killers

Were these attacks ordered by Hillary? Please clarify.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Let the Iranians be warned who the Top Dog in the Middle East is. Obama tried to take out this person out and failed. Irans Top military leader in Iraq?? There are no coincidences. Huge win for the U.S intelligence agency.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Iran is the single biggest exporter of terrorism

Nope , Saudi Arabia is.

They have been overtly and covertly funding terrorism and hardline Islam for decades.

And the reason Saudi are against Iran has nothing to do with their supposed hate of terrorism, it’s to do with the Shia Sunni conflict.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Mr KiplingToday 11:34 am JSTIf true this is a major escalation... Iran and its Shia allies will respond.... get the body bags ready!

And he said he wouldn't start a new war. And Iran has been fighting ISIL. So whose side are we on this time, Spanky Don?

nishikatToday 02:56 pm JSTis Donny’s stupidity.

He wanted to get back at Obama for Obama making him look stupid at the correspondence dinner.

Donnie doesn't need Obama to look stupid - everything Trump does and says is stupid, repulsive and SICK!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Oh so it’s ok to militarily attack someone when “provoked”? No restraint is necessary?

How exactly did Trump violently provoke Iran again? By shooting down their drone? Attacking oil fields in Saidi? Attacking their embassy in Iraq?

liberals just can’t help to support even terrorist killers in the #orangemanbad derangement.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Saudi Arabia...

Produced 9/11

Shooting down a U.S. drone, attacking oil tankers, capturing oil tankers, attacking a Saudi oil refinery, now attacking the U.S. Embassy in Iraq!

How many of these happened under Obama's watch?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The US didn’t have much of a choice in carrying out this attack, the Iranian militias were probably planning more attacks.

The U.S. has simply demonstrated that it will defend its citizens. Iran is the single biggest exporter of terrorism, there is a reason why The U.S., Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, & Egypt all work together against Iran. Now look back over the last couple years at the attacks Iran has tried to get a response for. Shooting down a U.S. drone, attacking oil tankers, capturing oil tankers, attacking a Saudi oil refinery, now attacking the U.S. Embassy in Iraq!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Iran started attacking the US after Donny started provoking Iran.

Yes, this happened on Trump's watch. Don't try blaming Hillary's Deep State on this.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Well, well, is this any surprise?

We have a Republican administration - that means more wars in the Middle East. They can't help themselves - its in their DNA. Just ask Bolton and Graham.

Trump saying he's bringing the troops home? Sure, and he's also releasing his tax returns, allowing Pence, Pompeo, and Perry to testify, and convinced Mexico to pay for the wall. Trump's a serial lair. He's also a NEOCON - same as all Repubs.

Trump playing his supporters again - when will they learn...

And no doubt this attack was influenced by the news today that un-redacted emails show Trump directly ordered the Ukraine military aid withheld.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/02/politics/unredacted-ukraine-documents-pentagon-concerns/index.html

Likely more incriminating info forthcoming...

Expect Trump to double-down and conduct some attack against North Korea...he has an Axis of Evil too - except he removed Russia and put that country in his "Best Friend" category...

4 ( +7 / -3 )

let’s talk about how Iran kept attacking us and our interests but somehow it’s our fault that we finally responded.

Iran started attacking the US after Donny started provoking Iran. Let’s try to not attempt to re-write history.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

is Donny’s stupidity.

He wanted to get back at Obama for Obama making him look stupid at the correspondence dinner. Now people are dying. Just because Trump hates Hillary. It's so strange why Trump hates Hillary. Like a dog hating a cat. He just can't stop tweeting his hatred for Hillary. Check his tweets and count how many are towards him hating Hillary. Very obsessed.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

The US didn’t have much of a choice in carrying out this attack, the Iranian militias were probably planning more attacks.

But what got us into this state, a totally unnecessary escalation, is Donny’s stupidity.

its going to be a mess, more unnecessary deaths, destruction and instability!

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Nope I’m good, Nancy can use this as a deflection to act like impeachment never happened.

let’s talk about how Iran kept attacking us and our interests but somehow it’s our fault that we finally responded.

Al Qaida kills 3000 US citizens on US soil and US does nothing to punish them.

You’d have to ask your boy Donny that question.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

stand up to the Deep State

What is the Deep State? Is Hillary the head of it? Is she ruining Trump's party? Because Trump complains about her in his tweets so much.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

One thing's been certainly laid to rest.

Trump is not Putin's puppet, because Russia has condemn this assassination as not only a gross violation of Iraqi sovereignty but as the murder of a general in peacetime.

Waiting to see which Democrats will stand up to the Deep State and side with Russia in condemning this.

European leaders and everybody else is broadly condemning this as a blatantly irresponsible and reprehensible act.

The whole world (except Israel and Saudi Arabia) are against this.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Because Al Qaida, Saudi Arabia and the Deep State that runs Washington are one and the same.

Trump has let the Genii out of the bottle. 2020 will be remembered as a year with only two days of peace.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

You only have to reverse the headline - Iranian airstrike kills powerful U.S. general at Baghdad airport - to realize just how audacious and inflammatory this action is.

As far as I know, the US and Iran aren't officially at war. This political assassination just made that prospect a whole lot more likely.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Reckless and totally inconsiderate of the U.S.

I wonder what the U.S would've done in retaliation if Iran killed one of their generals? I stand in complete solidarity with Iran during the current situation. It's unacceptable to "out of the blue" just kill another country's general during peace time!

Shame on The Pentagon and president Trump. No longer worthy of protecting the western democracy!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I hope that Trump's children will be first inline to volunteer their services for the upcoming campaign....

Or will Donny's children be safe whilst the children of other families will be sent off to fight his war?

10 ( +12 / -2 )

As u_s_reamer says above, there are some obvious US sitting targets open to modern weaponry.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Three years ago there was an international accord that Iran was respecting that allowed on site inspections of its nuclear facilities by the UN and IAEA. Trump gets appointed president, acts like he has a mandate, and this is the result. Look for more bully-boy posturing in the run up to the elections.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

The application of technology for military purposes is both amazing and frightening because two can play at that game (remember 9/11?). Trump had better be afraid, very afraid. Weaponized drones flying into Washington will one day no longer be just a SF disaster movie.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

the pallets of cash were not authorized by Congress, by the way. And Obama drone strikes were perfectly fine and legal, even on American citizens.

So it’s quite hypocritical for congress to start whining how. Go focus on your “impeachment” that’s all you care about anyway.

Gotrumpers (US and 'foreign'): you own this.

Democrat Chris Murphy just 3 days ago. Attack for not doing anything then totally flip flop when we do something about it.

lets impeach Trump! He didn’t tell us so that we could leak it to CNN in time. Who is “impotent“ now Chris? We aren’t hoping the bad guys go away, we made them go away.

The attack on our embassy in Baghdad is horrifying but predictable.

Trump has rendered America impotent in the Middle East. No one fears us, no one listens to us.

America has been reduced to huddling in safe rooms, hoping the bad guys will go away. What a disgrace.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

More missile strikes from America, more war for oil.

The military/industrial complex lives on forever.

I think it was the Iraqi govt trying to make good with Trump. They just don't want it known.

Iraq knows that Iran has infiltrated their state. Iraq knows that Iran is a region-wide problem.

Soleimani is our leader" had been photographed spray-painted on windows by Iran-backed militiamen at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

correction: “was your leader”. Of a group classified as a terrorist organization since 2007.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

What goes around, comes around.

Yeah, Gen. Qassam Soleimani was a man with lots of blood on his hands, Yes, the first thing Trump tweeted was a big U.S. flag. Yes, Trump ordered it and the U.S. has officially taken credit for it. And, yes, lots of Iranians and Iraqis are going to be really pissed off about it.

So, what happens next? This Mexican standoff between the U.S. and Iran is about to get a whole lot uglier.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

It was not immediately clear who fired the missile or rockets or who was targeted. There was no immediate comment from the U.S.

We will soon see updates to this story in which the US admits it fired the rockets.

Moderator: The story has been updated with a statement from the Pentagon.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Wonder what would happen if Iraq said no to more US troops on the way? Would they revoke the Iraqi govt and directly rule? Not like the US has issues with national sovereignty. Might makes right, I guess.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I think the U.S. didn't do this, they are much too loud. Maybe Israel......Hmmmm

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

@bas4fMany us don’t believe a word that comes out of the mouths of the liberal media surrogate lemmings.

What is your RT/Breitbart media saying happened? And if it comes to a Trump vs Iran/Russia showdown, which side will the Trump/Putin team back.

No more killing for oil. And gas.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Are you saying Russia's responsible for the bombing, that Russia would bomb its own Iranian partners to make the US look bad?

The country responsible has not been officially identified.

Would you agree with me, that once identified, we can both agree that that country is a Rogue state which disregards international law and the sovereignty of nations and should pull all its troops back home.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

I don't believe a word out of the current administration.

Many us don’t believe a word that comes out of the mouths of the liberal media surrogate lemmings.
