Weak Western leadership caused this.

Where’s the mother of all sanctions?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Stuxnet attack the **** out of Russia and try to knock the power out, derail trains, and more.

Anti war protests have happened in at least 40 Russian cities, and Russia responded with the "Trudeau treatment" on DAY ONE.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

What does Russia have to do to receive the most severe financial sanctions? This is sickeningly weak by Biden.

Yes, it’s sad, sickening and embarrassing and this is going to get worse. Keep your eyes on China got a bad feeling about that as well.

-12 ( +9 / -21 )

The only way to end this madness in Ukraine and to prevent the world from an all over war is to eliminate the russian agressor and mass murder Putin and all his insane followers.

I hope the Ukraine has a lot of high skilled terrorists who can enter Russia and blow the Kreml with all its idiots inside to hell where they belong to.

This insane Putin is drawing the world towards a third world war, and he even said he is ready to use nuclear weapons against the west.

This russian insane agressor Putin must be stopped by any possible way before it is too late.

In my Opinion, for this crazy insane Man, Ukraine is not the end. He will continue and attack the next country.

Therefore he must be eliminated before it is too late.

The Russian Federation has become the new "Star Wars", Borg (who claimed "Resistance is futile") the globe now has a replacement imperium (this must please the global right with Russia/Iran/China) setting the rules. Which language will be lingua franca, and will it become a crime to speak English given the new Borg hate the west so much.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Putin needs to be charged with crimes against humanity.

Start with indictments. Now.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

s sickeningly weak by Biden.

For the last few weeks the anti-Biden herds and other rightists have called Biden a warmonger. Now what are you suggesting he do to show he isn't weak?

Are the global right now willing to admit Putin is a warmonger? Or will you continue to blame it on the MSM? Or will you say the west forced him to bomb Ukraine, which would suggest Putin is not so tough and got outplayed by the west.

7 ( +19 / -12 )

Readers, please do not attempt to turn this discussion into a rant against just Biden. This issue concerns the global community.

Europe is a tiger without any teeth. History repeat itself. When germany invade poland, they were also like this. Gathering together, some speeches, tea parties and some condemnations. If they had acted on Belarus two years ago and ousted the leader, Russia wouldn't have now been able to deply troops there using it to surround their target.

-2 ( +9 / -11 )

Weak Western leadership caused this.

A desperate totalitarian regime caused this. History will look upon Putin as it does on Hitler and Stalin.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

In a clear defense of Moscow, China "called on parties to respect others' legitimate security concerns."

Putin seems to have made the calculation that the West's sanctions will have acceptable effects as long as the economic power of China is behind him. This reorientation could be of great benefit to China geopolitically. A frightening prospect.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Lane, Russia reaping what it sowed, with worthless Russian lives dying for what what,Putin insecurities, priceless

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Or will you say the west forced him to bomb Ukraine, which would suggest Putin is not so tough and got outplayed by the west.

He did indeed outplay the west. The West miscalculated and grossly underestimated this guy. Whether you think Putin is tough or a coward, the guy is shrewd, calculating and ran and is running circles around NATO and the US and that’s beyond frightening as well as aggravating. Just wait until they start using cyberattacks against us, it’s coming and how will we respond. The US can launch its own cyberattacks but that means it will be the next step in a very dangerous growing global conflict.

-12 ( +6 / -18 )

Some 7,000 additional U.S. troops will be sent.

That’s a start. Time to draw US troop levels back up to 1989ish levels. And stream Stingers and Javelins to Ukraine’s borders.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Bass4,Putin will end before a firing squad, when the general come to their senses

4 ( +9 / -5 )

It is obvious. History tell all. USA said it would support Georgia. War with Russia then ceasefire. No support during Russian invasion. Then afterwards, US military industrial complex flooded into Georgia. $$$.

same will happen in Ukraine.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

the U.S. also will be deploying additional forces to Germany

The Germans have almost nothing there anymore, the uppermost ‘general’ plush puppet himself said ‘we are blank and unprepared’ , so in fact those additional US forces are somewhat like the first and only forces. Better deploy 7,000 per minute, otherwise that psycho Putin won’t stop the once rolling military machinery before Portugal’s Algarve coast.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Too bad Putin called their bluff(economic sanctions). Most European countries are dependent on Russian Oil so I don't know who's more likely to suffer from those "Economic Sanctions". While I don't agree with Russia's Full-scale aggression, the World must also be aware of the history and real reasons why. NATO/EU/US and Russia both have vested interest in Ukraine but if I will look at Putin/Russian's perspective I would definitely side with them on this one. If CUBA were to put up military bases near American Borders, how would you think the US would react to it? War Profiteers smiling once again. God bless the world!

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Sanctions do not work. Send in James Bond.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

What' the point of stationing troops in Germany. Russia want Ukraine and not Germany. I am willing to bet Biden would not dare to allow any US troops to set 1 foot into Unkraine. All this talk of sanction is useless. I give it less than a week before Ukraine is run over.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Sanctions do not work. Send in James Bond.

For this case, Rambo would be the better choice.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

People who want to escalate things are never the people who have to do the fighting.

The first thing the troops to Poland did was take selfie’s.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Lots of body bags returning to Russia will have a stronger effect than sanctions. Putin doesn’t give a damn about sanctions, but the Russian people do give a damn about body bags. Revolution?

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Sanctions ain’t gonna cut it !

Putin just laughs them off, all the while sitting in his palace sipping vodka & counting his rubles

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

all of you are talking abt recent situation and about how Putin or Russia is bad.

i have never heard from all of you to worry abt people of Lugansk and Donetsk as they have virtually never existed for you?

where have you been last 8 years?

why UA gov never fullfilled Minsk agreement conditions they have signed and agreed?

what did UA gov did to stop all of this mess caused?

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Its obvious who is winning and who got played and it’s critical to identify that. Not calling others names when they accurately identify that Putin is in control here.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Only the Russian people can remove Putin!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Eric Swalwell floats kicking Russians out of US universities in retaliation to Putin invading Ukraine

Oh yeah great sanction instead of kicking Russia out of SWIFT. /s

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Biden is being careful to limit escalating military interactions as Putin has clearly gone off the deep end. Americans screaming for military action should be aware that Russia has hypersonic weapons that can hit the US.

If you invade a nation, you paint a target on your own. There are 2 million angry Ukrainians in Russia. When the summer heats up, hundreds of thousands of square miles of Russian forest and oil-polluted tundra will be tinder dry. If just one of those Ukrainians is angry enough, it will make the Aussie bushfires look like a BBQ. You won't just be able to see the flames from space. You will be able to see them from Mars. That's why we needed globalisation to limit climate change, and why a return to the nation state model and the inevitable wars that come with it, was always going to hasten climate change.

Hopefully the Russian oligarchs will sack the manager to avoid relegation.

The only thing they know how to do is sanctions, sanctions and more sanctions, showing more fear and weakness.

No matter who it is, Democrats and Republicans only know how to impose sanctions, sanctions and more sanctions

While the US and NATO circus impose sanctions, Lord Putin intervened to help the independent republics of Donbass.

Lord Putin knows no fear..

The most powerful man on earth..

Sanctions do not work. Send in James Bond.

For this case, Rambo would be the better choice.

Keep believing in the fantasy garbage of Hollywood, it has brainwashed many generations into believing that they live in a brave and invincible country that wins all wars..

Sooooo funny !!.. LOL !!..

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

What does Russia have to do to receive the most severe financial sanctions? This is sickeningly weak by Biden.

Not to worry... Be patient 'cos The Best is Yet to Come! Get yer popcorn out! As the Nazis discovered, occupying a country is much harder than just driving out its government so this invasion might well become a long game of attrition, but if the Ukrainian people resist Putin's land grab the resulting loss of life on both sides may turn out to be his Afghanistan. Putin's Kremlin bunker will not save him from wrath of the Russian people if the pain imposed on them by Putin's cabal of fascists becomes the tipping point for the people to organize and summon up the courage to liberate their country for democracy by overthrowing Putin's putrid Potemkin Village of oligarchic tyranny.

Statement by the North Atlantic Council on Russia's attack on Ukraine

https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/official_texts_192404.htm

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That's...actually a much lower casualty count than I expected to see.

Any loss of life is bad, the only truly acceptable number is 0, but with over 14,000 dead in that region since 2014, it seems tiny.

I can only hope that the one lasting good effect is the end of any further loss of life in the region, but maybe that is too much to hope for.

We can only hope this doesn't escalate further by actions from Russia or from NATO forces. If every party acts as they have said they would, that shouldn't happen, but I don't think we have any reason to take anyone at face value right now.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If Putin really wanted to invade Ukraine, why now when all these past years they have supported DONBASS territories.

Putin doesn't want to conquer Ukraine. it is not about expanding Russian territory. instead, it is about keeping NATO influence away from the Russian border. he wants a buffer state. this, in his mind, is a critical national security issue.

he would back off in exchange for a formal declaration by NATO that they would never allow Ukraine to join. but NATO cant give him that. so his options are to either install a Ukrainian government that has no desire to join NATO, or failing that, carve out a part of Ukraine and keep it firmly under Russian control.

this is basically how the Cuban crisis played out.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

And you think sanctions are going to stop this man? So any significant effect on him hurting by implied sanctions won’t be known for at least a year at the very minimum. Sanctions should have been applied to the Russians over a year ago and they weren’t.

True, I agree. But in addition to sanctions what do you think the west should be doing? Yesterday you were saying the US should be building a better relationship with Russia. If sanctions won't work, how is being nicer to Putin going to solve any of this?

This has nothing to do with right or left, this has to do with serious questions of how NATO and this administration will deal with this growing conflict and I don’t think Putin’s going to stop at Ukraine, I think it’s The bigger pretext of what’s to come.

I also agree with this. But what is the best strategy here? I get that sanctions won't stop Putin's invasion, but they seem to be the "least worst" option that the west has, direct military intervention would invite WW3 and other than sanctions there isn't much short of that which is on the table.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Putin started planning for yesterday's invasion when the Russian puppet, Yanukovich, was kicked out and sent packing to Moscow in 2014, but the sudden, surprising appearance of a Trump on the world stage was "Orange Manna from Heaven" for Putin giving him four years to groom his American stooge to do his bidding by purveying fake news and praising HMV from Moscow. As a result of Trump's craven conduct, Putin's army of trolls have bored like termites into the GOP which looks about to fissure, crack and implode over Russian aggression.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Let's be honest the Ukrainian military is not going to exist in 48 hrs.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Very disturbing to see on the news, Russian bombs landing in civilian areas. Its barely begun and there is already a lot of innocent blood on Putin's hands. The rest of the world needs to unite against this war crime, sanctions need to be way stronger to start, but that is just a first step.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The US and the EU had no right to offer Ukraine membership in NATO and had no right to send them weapons on the border of Russia. They fanned the flames for too long and now Russia answered and got it done in a day.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

It seems too late to discuss now and here, but I wonder why Ukraininan President Zelensky had insisted on access to NATO although the latter seemed hasitant (and now almost abondaning military support to Kyiv). A similar strategic mishap was made by Georgia in 2008, which resulted in a Russian invasion and two breakaway pro-Russian regions (unilaterally) claiming independent republics.

I believe that an alternative course could have been possible to avoid or minimize armed conflicts now underway. For example, Finland, sharing long borders with Russia, is not a NATO member. With about 5 million plus residents, one eighths the population size of Ukrain, the Finnish military capability is also small and limited in compared to its eastern neighbor (even though considering that it still adopts dafting system for all males).

During the Cold War, Finland's pro-Soviet and compromised foreign policy was teased as Finlandization; in fact Finalnd had been successful in stahying on the side of the West under decades-old tough times, without losing its liberal democratic principles. Why couldn't Ukrain take this model, just for a few more years? President Zelensky had'nt even had a stong political base at home. For me it looks like many things having been terribly uprepared or immature on the Ukrainian side prior to NATO/EU membership although I definitely oppose the current invasion.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The US and the EU had no right to offer Ukraine membership in NATO and had no right to send them weapons on the border of Russia. They fanned the flames for too long and now Russia answered and got it done in a day.

Screw that. Russia is the one led by a psychotic madman right now who is invading neighboring countries without provocation and comiting mass murder against the civilian population, not the US, EU or NATO.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I’m guessing most Ukrainians wanna have a peaceful life and stable government. This was never going to happen with a US/NATO/EU puppet using Ukraine as a proxy state against Russia, and many Ukrainians understand this.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The Russian military has already secured Kiev airport and a nuclear plant deep inside the Ukraine.

Ukrainians seems to be abandoning their positions en masse and not even putting up a fight.

Oh yeah, you can always tell how these invasions will work out based on what happens in the first 24 hours.

The Americans had no problems whatsover in Iraq or Afghanistan after their initial strikes on those countries, right?

Soviet forces in Afghanistan also had a really easy ride after entering the country, right?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Russian troops crossed Ukraine’s sovereign borders for the second time since Biden has been in the White House.

Europe is doing nothing except shouting in protest.

I would take Trump's alleged lies any day over the rampant tongue-lashings being meted out by the US and European leaders--at least Putin knew not to cross a geographical boundary. That was the genius of Trump, in keeping dictators in check.

North America will suffer higher gas prices. Ukrainian citizens will suffer real horrors.

No words will have any effect.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

you have posted your support for Putin even though the American economy will be hurt by the crisis. Anything for your partisan politics.

American weapon dealers will definitely gain. One FGM-148 Javelin missile, not including a launcher cost about $175,000.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Sanctions do not work. Send in James Bond.

For this case, Rambo would be the better choice.

Stallone’s grandfather was Ukrainian and escaped to avoid Russian persecution.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Notice how putin invaded ukraine in 2014 right after the sochi olympics. during the time frame of 2009-2017, but didn't from 2017-2021, but is now mixing it up again from 2021~..

See the pattern.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Seems like Russian forces reached Kyiv bad, very bad.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

'Who is ready to fight alongside us? I don't see anyone. Everyone is afraid' Ukraine's Zelensky

Headline news in the mail online.

I can't help but feel the global community has stood by and let Putin bulldoze, threaten and finally slaughter his way across Europe.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

’m guessing most Ukrainians wanna have a peaceful life and stable government.

it’s a pity that thanks to Russia that future lies through thousands of body bags of Russian and Ukrainian civilians

This was never going to happen with a US/NATO/EU puppet using Ukraine as a proxy state against Russia, and many Ukrainians understand this.

You can keep repeating over and over a paid-for lie - that will never make it so. Those who spread the lie will have their own accounting one day.

These deaths, all of them, men, women, and children, are on Russia, and the NLg Russia that is what Ukrainians and the world understand.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This will end badly for putin, this is the beginning of the end of putin’s rule!!!!

Biden is also finished.
