What does the writer think “shattered the sentiment” of the day? Oh, a video release by Trump. Yeah right. Like any sincere mourners are gonna stop mourning or remembering cuz Trump released a video.

But former President Donald Trump shattered the sentiment, releasing a video slamming the "inept administration" of Biden for its "incompetence" over the Afghan withdrawal, and later telling New York police officers that the U.S. had been "embarrassed."

Projecting much there, Trump? I've never been more embarrassed to be an American than the last 4 years. It was master class in ineptitude.

It is also yelling that Trump was the only living president not to attend the 9/11 memorial. Apparently giving up golf for one morning was just too much to ask.

Rest in Peace to the nearly 3000 innocent souls from countless nations who were cruelly taken from their children, parents, wives and husbands, by twisted, evil, Islamist terrorists.

No one will ever forget where they were at that moment 20 years ago. The world will never be the same.

There is a lot of money to be made in spreading lies, and inciting hatred.

I have no idea what cloistered community you have lived in in the US, but trying telling this bit of triumphalist boilerplate to the tens of millions being kicked of unemployment and eviction protection this month.

Poor Americans. about 2977 people died in 911 and about 7000 died in Afghanistan and Iraq war. What a waste of lives! War really makes everything very miserable.

I agree and would add their media in the US and around the globe. And of course their politicians, especially those in the QGOP, the Trump sect of the Republican Party.

What especially Americans need to reflect on at this time is how their foreign policy and the exploitation of the resources and peoples in many regions of the world by their transnational corporations was deeply connected to the 9/11 aerial attacks and how the anger and fear after led to the US military conducting an illegal and unjustified war of terrorism against mostly people not at all involved in 9/11, both abroad and in their own country.

@takeda.shingen - to Trump's credit, he wasn't playing golf; he visited the New York police and fire departments. Whatever anyone may think of the military, the NYPD and FDNY were full of true heroes, rushing into certain death to save office workers trapped in the buildings.

Amongst the national shock and mourning, I’ll never forget his Trump bragged that he now had the tallest real estate development in NYC pos collapse.

I was in NYC that day. Now 20 years later looking back at it all, was US engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan succesful? If "success" means kept any further foreign terrorist attacks on US soil from happening after 9/11, then yes, I suppose it was. Was it worth the price? I'd be hard put to say it was. So many lives lost, Afghani civilians and troops, US troops, Allied nations' troops, all for such a long period.

Removing the Taliban completely was a pipe dream from the start. I'm not at all surprised at he present outcome. But the U.S. ending it's military involvement in Afghanstan is necessary, and frankly I think it took guts on the part of Pres Biden to go through with it. There is no way the US can confront the new challenges and threats posed by China and Russia, with one foot still stuck in the mud.

Such a shame that terrorism is still a threat - this time with the added fear of domestic terrorism in US of A. Friends of my relatives in NYC have lost loved ones and I can't imagine what they were going through.

I wonder WHY Al Qaida terrorists attacked and killed so many people in the first place? Afghanistan/Pakistan are about 10,000 miles (flight distance) far away from the US. Not exactly. It was Saddams attack of Kuwait (supposedly green lit by the US BTW) that got US troops stationed in Saudi Arabia, leading to Bin Laden declaring war on the US back in May of 98.

I don’t think there is anything wrong expressing and voicing love for your country, if you want to hold it close to your vest, that is your personal right, if you want to be more vocal about it, that’s your right as well. There shouldn’t be a limit to what or how you should be able to express yourself. That are some of the things that make the US special. There should never be a limit to what you can or cannot say, including your own admiration for your country and love of patriotism.

On 9/11 we were all United as Americans; 20 years later, we’re divided by stupid stuff like crt and defunding the police. The pandemic’s a mess, crime and homelessness are rampant. And most importantly, Americans are willing to trade in more freedoms for “safety”. Thank you to Trump for saying what needs to be said. Biden has brought a grey cloud over the 20th anniversary. And to make things worse, some Americans hate Trump but love Ilan Omar who simply said “something happened” 20 years ago. Joe is sooo delusional if he thinks America’s back and that he’s the one to unite us.

I disagree, it was justified, we got Saddam who was a cancer in that region and should have been brought to justice back in the first gulf war. I still believe getting rid of him was an important key factor in this bigger conflict. But if you make the argument about what is legal and what is not in war then your opening up questionable arguments and you can apply that same analogy to literally every war in history. Americans think the second world war was justified, many Japanese and Germans didn’t. You attack me, I don’t need to ask permission in seeking retribution.

It’s always a sad reminder when we look at what happened and the lives that were lost. So many innocent people woke up that morning, took the car, walked, bus or train not knowing that day would be their last including the people at the Pentagon and the passengers of flight #93 and the other 3 jets.

So much death and destruction, people jumping out of windows and now more people died from breathing in all that toxic dust than from the actual attack by the terrorists. Now you think looking at all the death and destruction that NYC was done, but look at it now. Loved Bush’s speech back then addressing the firefighters and cops that the people responsible for this will pay and the biggest targets did and that’s why I’m a huge fan of Rob O’Neill’s for ending OBL great man, the nation will always remember this warrior. Was happy to see how the NYFD were just ecstatic to see former President Trump come and speak to them, great highlight moment.
