Johnson's dilemma is that he is in no position to make the EU an offer they can't refuse and ditto as regards his standing vis-a-vis Parliament. He's nothing but a political eunuch strutting his shambolic stuff to the amusement of the public. An election is what he now needs to have his way, but that's not going to work for him, either.

It's going to happen. The EU will likely give Donny's cousin the finger on this.

There is no "deal" to be offered. You either stop the madness and revoke Article 50, preserving all the commercial, scientific and cultural benefits from being in the E.U., with your own currency, or you crash out no deal and destroy the economy of the U.K. to appease all the half-wit bigoted gammon and allow scum like Rees-Mogg and others to cash in after shorting the pound. The only reason his ilk and others want out NOW! is because of greater asset and tax transparency laws due to go into effect next year in the E.U.

Boris Johnson and Donald Trump seem to share the notion that they are always the smartest and most entertaining person in the room.

The British proposal involves “an all-island regulatory zone on the island of Ireland, covering all goods including agrifood.” That would keep Northern Ireland in a regulatory zone with the EU for food, agricultural and industrial products, removing the need for checks.

So i.e. the border will be between the island of Ireland and the island of Britain. There is still going to be a border. At first they said they will never allow an inside border dividing the UK, now apparently they have conceded that option while, most likely, secretly hoping this will not push NI into unification with Ireland.

Brexit will happen soon thank God, with or without a deal. The sooner the UK is out of the accused EU the better!. Brexit now!

Brexit as Britain going out of its mind ? It has happened.

The Irish government said Prime Minister Leo Varadkar spoke to Johnson by phone on Wednesday. It said that while "the proposals do not fully meet the agreed objectives of the backstop," Varadkar would "study them in further detail."

That's putting it mildly, An Taoiseach would want to remind himself that Johnson is an inveterate liar. He says “we will under no circumstances have checks at or near the border in Northern Ireland."

But he also says that checks could be carried out away from the border at “other points on the supply chain.”

A return to violence is hanging over all this.

And it will be down to the rush by Brexiteers, willing to ignore the concerns of Ireland.

Then again, Ireland has historically been crapped on by its neighbor. Is it such a surprise?

Forced Brexit is not a good exit.

Both EU and UK will be fine, but both will be harmed.

How is he proposing to prevent people entering Ireland from elsewhere in the EU and then traveling near to the border with Northern Ireland, wandering into Northern Ireland then traveling into the UK. There are also issues with this regard his proposals encouraging smuggling of goods into and out of the EU.

It's a scam. he does not want or expect the EU to accept this. He wants to be able to tell his base that he has done his best and they will fawn and believe every word.

Also since Bo-Jo lost his case in the Supreme Court there seems to be some debate about the difference between "Unlawful" and "Illegal".

It's simple "Unlawful" is against the law. "Illegal " is a sick bird.

Don't think so!

A fair observation. Johnson is gunning for No Deal and this "offer" is just a PR act aimed at presenting the UK as compromisers so that No Deal can be blamed on the EU. The wording of the headline plays straight into this. The EU are not stupid however, and have said they will consider the offer, even though it many commentators have called it dead on arrival due to all of the promises and rules it breaks.

As for Yubaru's original question, I suspect Brexit may not happen. Brexiteer politicians are overplaying their hand, pushing for too hard a Brexit for which there is no consensus and now trying to use legal moves and brinksmanship. It's the Icarus situation, going too hard for something and losing everything through hubris and narcissism.

Britain and Ireland use another gesture for that. And Bozo is in no position to make a 'deal'. He has publically crapped his pants and he needs to go off into a corner and sulk. He has blown it as PM. He's done.

fwiw, the UK government has already formulated its official response to the EU rejecting this offer. It is official policy for senior Cabinet members to call the EU "crazy".

With expressions like "if the EU ends negotiations by rejecting this last chance for a fair and reasonable compromise", it is clear that the offer is just a PR exercise to enable the government, the right wing press, and probably the BBC shift the blame. Brexit could happen with a deal instantly if Britain simply accepted the backstop that was negotiated together with the EU. That has been the EU position for over a year.

For some people, Brexit is an opportunity. I never thought it would destroy the U.K. cause I never considered the British to be so weak. But yes, there will be a wild ride and work to do. But the U.K will survive.

Boris Johnson insists his new protocol for Ireland/Northern Ireland is realistic compromise. My instincts lead me to believe this is a ruse, a clever one, there's Cummings fingerprints all over the text, a means to proportion blame in the event of a no deal. Take a look.......

Simple solution for everyone: bring another last bastion of British imperialism to an end and get Britain out of Northern Ireland; Ireland becomes one country again, remains in the EU, and there is no border problem to solve.

Not going to happen of course, but it would make a lot of sense. Ian Paisley is gone, after all, hehe.
