That sounds a bit strange, and probably misleading. Other reports quote the hospital as saying, "We have now asked for the input of Cheshire Police to seek assurances that enable us to rule out unnatural causes of death." In other words, their own investigation didn't allow them to rule out unnatural causes so they called in the police.

The "review by the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health found staffing gaps at the hospital for high-dependency and some intensive care patients but no definitive explanation for the baby deaths".
So the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust had little choice but to seek from the Cheshire Police, formally, to open an investigation into deaths to "rule out unnatural causes of death."
Both natural and unnatural death have significant meaning in criminal law and will determine the necessary procedural steps to differentiate one from the other.

Alfie Noakes
A terrible and disturbing story.

Demographics, Alfie. I'm glad that attention is being drawn to it, given that usually the world news section is dominated with Trump or US-based rubbish.
It's very upsetting that a clearly disturbed person can obtain such a position in order to carry out a series of murders.
No doubt, it will be more ammunition for those who wish to see the NHS destroyed.

The health profession seems to attract their share of 'off' people, and this is universal across many countries.
In fact, some of the worse serial killers in history were nurses, even though many people overlook this.
Michael Jackson
Multiple murders of innocent young babies. Does the UK have the death penalty, she'd be a prime candidate. But some readers will defend her anyway.

There are a lot of non-white and immigrant staff in Britain's NHS, so my first fear was that this would be one of them and hate-spreaders like the Daily Mail would have a field day. As it was, it is an ordinary white woman. My mother reads the Daily Mail so I get the poison they write in regurgitated form.
Although its innocent till proven guilty, this is such a huge accusation that they must have a lot of evidence against her.

She's not been charged. She was arrested on suspicion of murder, not charged with murder. The police needed a warrant to search her home and the home of her parents, as well as needing to question her. They have 24hrs to charge her, unless they get a magistrate to extend this.

No, they've moved on from such barbarity. Sorry to disappoint.
I don't see that. In fact, I've not seen anyone here defending murderers. Rather, if anything, people would have issues with the death penalty crowd.

Lucy Letby is a evil creature and its a shame that the UK has abolished the death penalty. Child killers are absolute scum!
Luddite
Lucy Letby has been released on bail. Obviously not enough evidence to charge her at the moment.
