Surely this can't be so? Only last week we heard the following:

Donald Trump:

17 June: “We’re very close to a vaccine … but even without that … it’s fading away, it’s going to fade away.”

17 June: “The numbers are very minuscule compared to what it was. It’s dying out.”

Face Coverings Required

Hell, yea! The Americans and everybody else should be doing the same thing. You'll be sorry if you don't.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

nearly a half-million have died, including over 122,000 in the U.S., the world's highest toll

We test more.

as the daily number of confirmed cases across the U.S. closed in on the peak reached during the dark days of late April.

Like all complex issues the pandemic has to be looked at as a dynamic made up of many different elements. There are many reasons it continues to spread in the US. One of the main ones is too many individuals are not accepting personal responsibility; they're ignoring social distancing suggestions and not wearing masks. Too bad so many have made these 'political' issues. But unfortunately that's what's happened because the US President and his administration have continued to refuse to set examples themselves and continue to show such low level regard for the health of the country.

'So I said to my people'...

Where's Trump's 'better than Obamacare' plan?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Wearing mask probably looks like a terrorist. They must be very feared of shot by police.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I wear a mask to protect you. You wear a mask to protect me. I realize that this may be an anathema to many in the US, but for Christ's sake, just wear a mask. You may be asymptomatic. The people you infect may end up in the crematorium.

Serrano:

We test more.

Testing has NO bearing on the number of people who are dying in hospitals and elsewhere because of the virus. The virus doesn't need you to test for it first before killing. What part of that do you not understand? By the way, inject Lysol if you're worried.

Trump and Republican minions like these governors have blood on their hands. And no, please don't bring up China, China, China to deflect attention. We all know about that internal memo going around Republican circles.

New York, on the other hand, is flattening the curve. Hmm, I wonder why. No republican governor to get in the way?

Trump has been a paragon of responsibility and leadership in confronting the country's covid crisis, not, so it is hardly a surprise that much of the USA is now heading unmistakably in the direction of a groundhog-day lockdown. America may yet become a pariah state that the world must quarantine.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The U.S. has greatly ramped up testing in the past few months, and it is now presumably finding many less-serious cases that would have gone undetected earlier in the outbreak, when the availability of testing was limited and sicker people were often given priority.

OK Trump supporters, help us understand please;

At his rally in Arizona, Trump said he was decreasing testing....

Yesterday, several of you disagreed with Trump's statement and said you support and approve of increase testing...

So please explain this;

the administration is following through on Trump’s orders to slow down testing. The Department of Health and Human Services has announced it will pull funding from more than a dozen drive-through testing sites across five states, including Texas, at the end of the month.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/trump-follows-threat-slow-testing-163220493.html

And also, explain this;

The White House has abruptly cut off funding to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) coronavirus research, said Dr Anthony Fauci, the director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/white-house-abruptly-cut-off-170725046.html

Is Trump wrong for ordering this decrease in testing and cutting funding to COVID research?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

In Arizona, 23 percent of coronavirus tests conducted over the past seven days have been positive

This is a staggering figure. The authorities over in the US have failed from the very start. I hope they are building bigger hospitals and morgues, because tragically they are going to need them.

Practice social distancing. Avoid ALL crowded places. Wear masks. Wash hands constantly. Stay home and get tested if you have even a tiny symptom.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Is Trump wrong for ordering this decrease in testing and cutting funding to COVID research?

Less testing means more cases. More cases means more death.

Thanks Trump.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

@Serrano and other trump supporters who only spew out what the great leader says. Read and educate yourself, the science and the facts are out there. Public health officials and front line medical staff are telling you everyday that this is getting out of hand. If you don't like the testing numbers, then start looking at the number of hospitalizations and the number of ICU beds remaining, because once those numbers start to dramatically change, the next numbers to increase will be the number of deaths. It's pretty damn simple.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Alternate headline that will never be seen...

"Coronavirus deaths drop 75% from peak"

I mean, that is the actual important number, isn't it? "Number of cases" means nothing.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

“The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses,” Abbott said.

Shouldn't this say, "The last thing we want to do as a state is have thousands of our citizens needlessly die from a preventable disease"?

No? OK, I guess I'm not cut out to be governor of the great state of Texas then.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

True.

But unfortunately that's what's happened because the US President and his administration have continued to refuse to set examples themselves and continue to show such low level regard for the health of the country.

As if that will help anyone. People are not children! It is totally nonsense and irrelevant if the President wears a mask or not, if you can't take personal responsibility and some common sense then you need to go back to Kindergarten. Liberals are saying don't listen to the President, listen to the experts and now you're saying he should lead by example, so which is it? We know what this virus is, we all know what the Dems are doing to make sure the virus stays a hot issue in this election year. None of these people could give a damn about this virus.

Where's Trump's 'better than Obamacare' plan?

McCain killed it.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Cuomo- with 25% of the total deaths and the nursing home scandal actually had the nerve to call out the governor of Florida for "playing politics* and losing? This guy has no self awareness whatsoever.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Worldometers is a great place to get information about the disease. You can check the rolling totals for each country. Turns out that Japan, for example, is down nearly 90% from the peak in terms of deaths. There are something like only 500 active cases in the entire country! It's over. Yet still we are in a state of panic.

The US is the same. Australia the same. Only 2 patients in Australia in critical condition due to covid.

Yet stlil the media beats the drum of paranoia.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The irresponsible republican governors who opened up their states too early will definitely lose int eh next elections, but they also need to be held criminally liable for the deaths of the innocents.

So should the 'No masks' trump administration!!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Putin certainly got his money's worth with Trump.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

We know what this virus is, we all know what the Dems are doing to make sure the virus stays a hot issue in this election year.

Would you look a gift horse in the mouth?

Liberals are saying don't listen to the President, listen to the experts and now you're saying he should lead by example, so which is it?

The two are not mutually exclusive when the leader is not leading.

People are not children!

Not wearing a mask because it doesn't look cool or saying it inhibits one's freedom when it's obviously one of the best prevention methods around and can protect one's neighbor from dying is...well...childish. So, maybe they are not physically children, but they certainly are behaving like them.

The governors who were bullied by the bully occupying the White House have done a tremendous, bordering on criminal, disservice to the people of many states.

Washington continues to spew fake news, disinformation and misinformation regarding the deadly virus and many other subjects.

The lack of understanding of the science behind the COVID-19 pandemic, at the detriment and expense of We the People of the United States of America (U.S./USA), is beyond comprehension.

Damn the pandemic, full steam ahead with the reelection campaign.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

McCain killed it.

When did this happen and why has nothing been implemented since? Just seems to be nothing is going to be done so long as McCain can be blamed.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

anything to deny the real cause, the protests.

Governor points to family gatherings

Newsom chided residents who are hosting private events at their homes, including family gatherings, children's play dates and birthday parties.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

the contact tracing where NY city said its ok to LIE that you werent at the protest? Yeah man, I wasnt at the protest, I was at a "party"....yeah......

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/06/24/883017035/what-contact-tracing-may-tell-about-cluster-spread-of-the-coronavirus

For the clusters that have popped up, Lautenbach says the state has been using contact tracing to learn more about how they're contributing to the spread of the virus.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

LA Times is letting some of the secrets out. But they are ok with this because "police" got the coronavirus during the protests, not the noble and valiant protesters! Nobody cares about that, right?

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-06-23/lapd-coronavirus-cases-spike-adding-to-debate-over-role-of-protests-in-spread

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

nope, just the usual misinformation from the media and the left. All good here, never been better.

No coronavirus linked to protests because they specifically directed the contact tracers not to ask. But poice at the same protests are seeing significant increases

Over the two last weeks, Mayor Bill de Blasio and others have voiced concerns that packed police brutality protests across the city could trigger a new wave of COVID-19 infections.

Whether or not that’s the case, however, remains unknown — and de Blasio’s team won’t be directly trying to find out.

The hundreds of contact tracing workers hired by the city under de Blasio’s new “test and trace” campaign have been instructed not to ask anyone who’s tested positive for COVID-19 whether they recently attended a demonstration, City Hall confirmed to THE CITY.

“No person will be asked proactively if they attended a protest,” Avery Cohen, a spokesperson for de Blasio, wrote in an emailed response to questions by THE CITY.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

@blacklabelanything to deny the real cause, the protests.

Curious what source was used to say the 'real cause' was the protests. I assume data from a reliable source is being used to make that claim, that the claim's not just another trump.

I'd also be curious to see if some of the 'real causes' might include people disregarding social distancing suggestions, not wearing masks, gathering in groups at a beach or park somewhere, attending large gatherings, maybe sitting in a church, or one of the dozens of other 'real causes' possible.

Ockham's Razor can be a good way to understand issues, unless it's used by a partisan extremist bent on distorting events to support a 'side'.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The Razor, huh? which would be the recent public protests all over the USA, plus the funeral tour and the travel of its attendees, no?

Ockham's Razor can be a good way to understand issues, unless it's used by a partisan extremist bent on distorting events to support a 'side'.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

no, just wanted to point out that the Dem governor of California is blaming children and families for the spikes to avoid blaming protesters.

Even though the police at these protests also have increased number of cases.

Truth over facts, as Biden says.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Where's Trump's 'better than Obamacare' plan?

I keep telling you guys, you don't listen. Too many Democrats and RINOS in Congress, which has a lower approval rate than Trump.

So the U.S has loads of cases and loads of deaths, yet Trump followers still think he's handling it great. Weird.

I keep telling you we test more, you don't listen. Weird.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

You can tell me all you like but the reality is that your dear leader could test everyone in the country and if he had done a good job of containing it, the job he should've done and should be doing, you wouldn't have so many positive results and deaths.

So you refuse to admit that more testing results in higher numbers. Weird.

This virus has hit many countries very hard. All of those countries' leaders are inept? No.

And I guess you are still unaware that way back in January Trump shut down travel with China, against the advice of some of his advisors while Pelosi was inviting everyone to come to SF's Chinatown and have a good time.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The flippant attitude of Trump and his cult are the biggest problem concerning the further spread of COVID-19, in the United States. Trump doubles down on his stupidity, so followers follow suit.

Anyone who questions this or find different areas to blame, are completely wrong. Listening to lies and believing them is a Trump supporter thing, so no new news there, but when the country is getting sicker each day, it again shows they absolutely cannot critically think, at all.
