if you believe Putin can not be defeated by military or polls then the Russian people will have a very bleak future not seen in the last two decades. Return to the days of bread queues

I again point you in the direction of Russian history 101 covering the past few centuries!

A few years ago the BBC was going around Russia during another crisis asking Russians how the felts and about sanctions.

Nearly everyone they spoke to including many with their identity hidden said the same thing.

"We are Russian, we are used to hard life"

I think this is one thing the west has never understood about Russia and Russians. They seem to be able to put up with crap and hardship no other Europeans would survive through.

And as one opponent to Putin put it.

" If the Russian people hate anything more than their own dictators, it is outsiders telling them what to do"

Check out "Ukraine on fire" by Oliver Stone, which gives you a deeper perspective on things happening in Ukraine up until now, something JT and media won't really mention. + Can't call O. Stone (British journalist) a Russian propaganda machine either.

Yes, that's an excellent analysis by "American" Oliver Stone.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Logics only will define who is not allowing the civilians to leave:

Russian army is most interested in dealing face to face with the Ukrainian army & the nationalist battalions, who kept bombing Donbass for 8 long years, so it has no interest whatsoever in having civilians, especially of Russian origins, Russian speaking Donbass people in Mariupol, among them. So the army declared a complete ceasefire to allow civilians leave.

On the other side: Ukraine army & the battalions are escaping direct confrontation with the Russian army, so their only protection is to hide behind civilians, keeping them as human shields. It doesn't take a genius to understand what really is happening to those humanitarian corridors.

Let me remind you Stalin took office in 1922 died in 1953 and the USSR finally collapsed in 1991.

So over 30 years of terror directly under him and another 38 years before things finally fell apart.

So that does give much hope of a great popular uprising in Russia any time soon.

Maybe this has something to do with why the Ukrainians are fighting back so hard?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Nope.

Oh yes, he’s pulling at 30% with independence, that’s not good for him nor for the Democrats coming this fall and beyond

Accidentally shooting down a Russian fighter wasn't a preplanned military op.

It wasn’t accidental, as Trump said “you attack our soldiers and we kill yours.”

Many more than you. In the end, the Soviet Union collapsed because of a single man.

Let me remind you Stalin took office in 1922 died in 1953 and the USSR finally collapsed in 1991.

So over 30 years of terror directly under him and another 38 years before things finally fell apart.

So that does give much hope of a great popular uprising in Russia any time soon.

At what point do European leaders tell Ukrainians they are not going to win and the best course of action to save the lives of their own civilians is to give Russia whet it wants; declare neutrality, agree to never join NATO and give up on the "independent" eastern enclave. Live to fight another day.

Probably about the same time the Ukrainians decide to hire you as an advisor. The Europeans don't get to "tell" Ukraine to do anything. Ukraine is an independent and equal member of the community of nations and can decide for itself what to do and who to align with.

Oliver Stone was massively biased in that film. He didn't even interview regular Ukrainians. I used to admire Oliver Stone, but his confirmation bias has lead him to be Putin's mouthpiece on more than one occasion. this was on of them.

Much better, and unbiased, is Winter on Fire (which is now free in YouTube). About the Maidan Revolution and Putin pushing Yanukovych to crack down hard on protesters who wanted to join the EU. It's very moving.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Yes from Venezuela and Iran. Choose one.

Neither, but this is pretty much the final mail in this administration.

That was an error, not a judgment call

Putin didn’t think so and Trump made him aware of it so….

Oliver Stone is a British journalist? Oh boy are you in for a surprise.

Medieval ?

Nope wrong century.

Or is this another Ukrainian president joke ?

Because its not funny !

Nator

The Guardian is massively biassed.

No it's not.

It is also not a member of IPSO.

They chose not to because IPSO is flawed. It is run by a royal charter and not independent.

All newspapers in the UK have editorial bias and all of them should be read with that in mind

True. Opinion pieces are such and clearly The Guardian is left leaning. Which is why I included The Economist because its ideology is free-market liberalism.

However, you can trust the facts that they print. And if you get your news from several that lean in different directions, you get a balanced view.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

so why didn't Trump do that instead of banning oil from Venezuela and then importing it from Russia?

Why won’t Biden as current President. Won’t want to anything about the border, he won’t do anything about the serious problems that we have in our country and yet he claims he wants to help the Ukrainians, but he still wants to import Russian oil, so what he says is contradictory, he doesn’t care about Ukrainians nor his fellow Americans if you make that lame statement.

High sulfur which America can not produce.

There are many other countries where we can get that from.

Just like the previous one.

No, Because the previous guy was threatening to use our oil independency to put the Russian guy out of business, not to mention he killed a bunch of Russian fighters in Syria.

Putin like all other evil dictators needs to be removed from office by the will of his own people backed by the majority of the military. The Russians are conscript army and many thought they were going on training exercises not to war to kill people and to be killed.

How did that work regarding Stalin?

Does anyone actually know history?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

@2020

The Guardian is massively biassed. It is also not a member of IPSO.

The cat-lady that has written for it on russian links to uk government has not one a single argument in court. Nothing she has written in the paper has been proved factual.

All newspapers in the UK have editorial bias and all of them should be read with that in mind. But the guardian is a massive offender of the truth on nearly every subject. I suggest you read more widely.

"The Jones Act, passed a century ago, has effectively limited the size of vessels that are allowed to transport goods between U.S. ports.

Biden could sign executive order for that allowing that Would allow ships to bypass

"The U.S. buys Russian oil in part to feed refineries

I know, Oil that can be easily substituted, there’s nothing that states we have to buy their oil.

https://www.cruisehive.com/senate-passes-bill-to-allow-cruise-ships-to-return-to-alaska/50792

So yes, if this president wanted to he could sign the executive order in bypass this. There is no law in place it states that we have to take Russian oil. We shouldn’t and that this President would allow that makes it even clearer as to to why Putin thinks this guy is full of hot air.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Some commentary here today (again) seems quite inconsistent, ranging from now supporting a bill of rights for citizens of a country to protect themselves to accepting accolades & recognition from oligarchs & aristocracy they sometimes claim to despise and want removed from power.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Why don't you let me know what kind of journalism you consider unbiased?

Like I said in my previous comment, providing various points of view, not just something that is fed by one source.

Check out "Ukraine on fire" by Oliver Stone, which gives you a deeper perspective on things happening in Ukraine up until now, something JT and media won't really mention. + Can't call O. Stone (British journalist) a Russian propaganda machine either.

Actually, I would go further and tell Putin and Xi that the first (Russian) nuke to fall on NATO soil will result in an encore over Beijing.

That would focus the right minds.

Good thing you and your ilk are not in charge.

How?” @bass4funk. Not exactly sure what someone else is on about but perhaps they’re fantasizing about continuing collaborations with some co-conspirators on the inside. - Oh! and as always, dual vertical-horizontal monitors, a comfy chair, some snacks provided by mom and a periodic nappy are also perhaps the best way to wage to any CTD campaign?

Your handle suit you perfectly because you would choose poorly.

The Art of war Sun Tzu:

Conceal your dispositions, and your condition will remain secret, which leads to victory; show your dispositions, and your condition will become patent, which leads to defeat.”

Still good advice today!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

There were some on this forum who were recommending that the Ukrainians just surrender and give up their country.

Not just JT. The Putin apologists and commie hipsters are saying that all over social media.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Those wondering why Putin has offered only humanitarian corridors into Belarus and Russia well the answer is in the articles including this one for the last few days.

Again in some strange way of doing things Ukraine keeps announcing to the world it's strategies.

Plans to borrow Poland's Migs or that of other former Warsaw pact countries, plans to use neighboring countries as staging grounds for counteroffensives, etc..

So logically Putin isn't going to allow able-bodied fighters to head to these places again it seems that the rhetoric coming from Ukraine isn't always thought out as to what the consequences would be if they publicly announced it not sure if these guys have ever heard to keep their war strategy secret.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Sometimes. So you can take the boy out of California, but not California out of the boy.

What?

yes, oil production should increase to help supply other countries, especially the gas. But does not change the fact America also needs the type of oil from Russia or Venezuela.

To a small extent, but from that 150 varieties, there are some that we can swap or substitute out with nations such as Canada and Mexico thus lessoning the dependency on these rogue nations.

So selling America weapons to Saudi Arabia to kill in Yemen is acceptable because America needs Saudi more than Yemen?

I answered that one already.

This is a post about Russia Ukraine then?

Then don't ask me about Yemen, I could care less.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

At least if they are going to do it, do it quietly, in order not to make all civilians targets.

Or you can let the Ukrainians figure out how to best defend their country. It's their country and their lives on the line. They are no stranger to foreign invasions and they will get through this one eventually as well. There were some on this forum who were recommending that the Ukrainians just surrender and give up their country.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

For two Americans who burn more oil than anyone else, you and bass4funk don't seem to know much

With all due respect, you have no idea what we know or don’t know. Cut it out.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

zichiToday  11:36 am JST

Arming civilians to defend their own country just like in the American Second Amendment

INot American not America! So what does that have to do with the price of sugar?

The situation is simple, if you point out you are arming you civilians, then that makes them a military target.

When Germany armed their civilians in the final days of the war that Americans, British, Canadian, Soviets didn't stop and ask "are you a civilian?" Before bombing or shooting them.

At least if they are going to do it, do it quietly, in order not to make all civilians targets.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

for a Texan, you sure need to read up on oil.

I know very well as a matter of fact and I’m not a Texan. I just live there.

then you should research why your other country needs the type of oil and what will happen if America does not have it.

I did, nothing.

https://thehill.com/policy/technology/596990-elon-musk-us-needs-to-increase-oil-gas-production-immediately

https://www.moneycrashers.com/us-dependence-foreign-oil/

So selling America weapons to Saudi Arabia to kill in Yemen is acceptable because America needs Saudi more than Yemen?

Personally, I only care what happens to Americans, not a big fan of either, I don’t live in those countries and I want this administration to wake up and ramp up oil production immediately it will take time but why use our enemies energy sources when we have our own. 51 Senators want Biden to stop this mess and start fracking.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

In Russia, this war is quite popular. But they have only state controlled media, so they get told how things are going from Putin's propaganda machine.

The latest law that carries a 15 year sentence for saying that it is a 'war' has extinguished the last bastion of independent news in Russia.

At least in the west we have a variety of biased (Fox News) and unbiased (The Economist, The Guardian) news sources.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

There's a simple solution to the oil quandry, put an oil embargo on China.

But I doubt any western leaders especially Biden have the balls to do it. Most are flatout understanding the difference betwwen being lured into a conflict and defending strategic boundary.

Ukraine and its brave people is the only thing standing between Putin and fragile former Warsaw Pact states, who are now NATO members, yet appeasement seems to be held up as the only response. Don't forget NATO's actual capability bluff has now been cancelled by the invasion either.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

For two Americans who burn more oil than anyone else, you and bass4funk don't seem to know much about the types of crude oils and why they are not all the same. I just hope you know what to put in your cars?

They're multimillionaires, off of, uh, journalism and meme stocks. Of course they don't.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

AS - there is a difference between armed civilians and fleeing civilians. Also, Putin doesn't need much of an excuse to bomb cities, so I am not sure how much this matters.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Isn't it counterintuitive or at least counter to your goals to keep showing how you are arming your civilians and how the civilians are ready to fight and then in the next breath accuse your opposition of killing civilians?

Isn't that just giving Putin a way of saying "what civilians? they're all armed they're combatants".

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Because they are trying to negotiate with Venezuela to get them to break their alliance. Until then, they won't buy oil from them.

So we trust dictatorships now?

“nah we don’t talk to Russia anymore, buy our oil!” Then nothing changes. Biden and his foreign policy team are well known to be outmaneuvered on everything they “negotiate”.

maybe we fly another plane of cash to Iran and they sell us some too?

wasn’t drilling our own oil and having energy independence more important than mean tweets?

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

I am sure of one thing, Russia is not going to give up anything at all.

This farce perpetrated by the US-NATO circus will be Biden's great failure..

Get ready because Trump is going to return to the white house in three years..

All this conflict is going to strengthen China, Trump and Lord Putin and more for Putin in case Trump wins the next elections, which I already take for granted..

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Perhaps you’re on to something @Addfwyn 10:12am: “If you are willing to be skeptical of one side, just take one more step and be skeptical of both.” - Agreed: Most history should be ‘available’, shouldn’t it ?  If not, you have to ask yourself “who are you debating” ?

*- @UChosePoorly 10:23am: “I am aware that all forms of media have some inherent bias, but if you can't see the differences …, then I don't know what to tell you.” -*

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Pointed out to you several the type of oil previously from Venezuela, and now Russia is a type of oil America needs but does not have. It only represents 11% of all oil imports.

I don’t care if it’s 0.1% we shouldn’t be taking oil for any of those countries period! We have enough oil in the US. We should open up Anwar, begin fracking and reopen the keystone pipeline and increase oil production domestically and stop this madness of getting from people that hate our guts, less war, less dependency!

True but if a USA Ally was to invade Venezuela, would we see the same outrage we are seeing now over Ukraine?

Probably.

I personally doubt it seeing we saw near zero mention about more Saudi bombings in Yemen yesterday

I see, well I think differently.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

And the medieval tactics that the Ukranian Army and the nazi paramilitary troops commit against the ethnic Russian people of the independent republics of Donbass for 8 years????..

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Trying to rewrite history, (again) ? - Legions of armed soldiers, intentionally set fires, introducing ‘biological weapons’ like plagues, salting of earth and famine used against unarmed people were not medieval ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in medieval and ancient times ? - Seems absurd to assert otherwise. -

Even more ludicrous to even attempt to convey it’s not happening NOW.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Isn’t Venezuela a Russia aligned dictatorship? Why would Biden do that?

Because they are trying to negotiate with Venezuela to get them to break their alliance. Until then, they won't buy oil from them.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/06/us-officials-venezuela-talks-apparent-bid-further-isolate-russia

6 ( +8 / -2 )

And Biden has suggested he will do just that but can't just happen overnight.

Isn’t Venezuela a Russia aligned dictatorship? Why would Biden do that?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

So the USA should be buying oil from Venezuela instead of Russia and that solves anything?

Ok so basically we’re not allowed to restart fracking in our own nation we’re not allowed to increase oil production, but we’re allowed to receive oil from Russia and now we have to possibly go to Maduro and the Ayatollahs for oil? We’re swapping one rogue nation to another one. This is just the absolute stupidest thing that this administration could even think of doing.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

@Antiquesaving

Skin, location, religion, the fact the one doing the attacking are our allies?

Probably the last one mostly. Look at how little attention the Yugoslavia bombings got comparative to this, the main difference being it was NATO doing the bombing and not Russia. I won't say that some outlets weren't consistent, but the outcry was a LOT different.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Only because Trump banned Venezuela oil.

So the USA should be buying oil from Venezuela instead of Russia and that solves anything?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

All journalism is biased. The BBC says it makes and effort and for it troubles it is accused of

The BBC and CBC both got called out by anti fascist groups in their respective countries including prominent Jewish groups over the fact they both ignored the facts that in rallies in support of Ukraine the UPA red and black flags were present and nothing was said or done.

The two news outlets in the UK and Canada bent over backwards, twisted themselves into knots the most amazing contortions in order to try and downplay the presence of what is essentially a Ukrainian Nazi flag.

They were very interesting reads fiction but interesting.

It was amazing to see both these news outlets try and deflect.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

I just think it's interesting that all the people who are saying now, "what about the Russian [government]'s perspective?" are the same people who insisted Russia would never invade, are fiercely antivax, and have never come across a conspiracy theory they didn't like.

Almost as if they were singing from the same hymn sheet.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Because unbiased journalism, ever heard of that?

Why don't you let me know what kind of journalism you consider unbiased?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Some contrarian tried asserting terms of “medieval” warfare like “siege” and “blockade” were not applicable to this ‘modern’ war against Ukraine’s cities and the increasing sanctions on and restrictions within Russia.

Try asserting that kind of obstinance with the actual people suffering on the ground. -

“The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine deepened Mon as Russian forces intensified their shelling, and food, water, heat & medicine grew increasingly scarce, condemned as a medieval-style siege by Moscow to batter it into submission.”

“Russia “resorting to tactics reminiscent of medieval siege warfare, encircling cities, cutting off escape routes & pounding the civilian population with heavy ordnance,” -

“suspended operations in Russia have "started to affect the lives of the citizens in the nation as well," according to the ministry, urging against travel to Russia "regardless of purpose."

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You are so close to getting it.

I agree that most Russian sources are probably going to be pretty biased towards Russia, which means that the NATO/western sources are going to be full of propaganda for...who? Or is western media miraculously free of propaganda.

If you are willing to be skeptical of one side, just take one more step and be skeptical of both.

Thanks for your encouragement. I am aware that all forms of media have some inherent bias, but if you can't see the differences between RT and (most) western media, then I don't know what to tell you. I am always critical and skeptical, needing to see even first-hand video evidence on multiple sites, and then applying a 24 to 48 hours rule as well. I am also even more suspicious of reporting that tends to confirm my biases. The thing is, with this war, there is plenty of first-hand evidence of what is going on - smartphones are a thing.

There will be plenty of time to sort out some of the details after the fact, but I am certainly not going to "both-sides" an armed invasion that has already killed thousands. "Both-siding" things or remaining neutral only benefits the aggressor.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@mz16

All journalism is biased. The BBC says it makes and effort and for it troubles it is accused of bias on both sides of every arguament. In olden times you would go to a news-stand and have a choice of papers and know which ones had which biases and choose according to taste. Everyone knew that the paper they read was not neutral and used that as a guide to what was written.

In this modern world its impossible to do that. Regarding this war I look at both RT and Al Jazeera knowing that both have there likes and dislikes.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Ok, how?

Wagner has a price. Not that I'm promoting the idea. IMHO guys like Putin need to be tried in a court and locked up for good as a reminder to Xi, rocket boy, etc... that crimes against humanity is the worst crime of all.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

What kind of comments are you looking for from the Russian side? All comments are not created equal. If they are just going to be spouting lies and propaganda, why even give them the microphone?

Because unbiased journalism, ever heard of that?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

The Russians need to remove Putin.

Ok, how?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

People who assume that NATO would just turn up and win need to think if that is realistic. People who think that the Ukrainians are doing anything more than stopping an advance need to consider how long the war will last if the Ukrainians have to advance into the areas already controlled by russian forces.

Every extra day this war last the more people die, the more destruction and the longer time it will take to recover. Russia has made an offer and Zelenski needs to consider what is best for his country. More death and destruction or an acceptance that Russia has taken a chunk of land.

Good to know that you wouldn't fight for your country or stand up for what is right.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Let's get something straight.

Putin played up the neo-nazis thing a Ukraine gave him the fuel and still is.

Ukraine first tried making Stepan Bandera a national hero, the man that founded the OUN/UPA and then at all Maydan rallies and rallies all over the world the red and black flags of the UPA are always prominent, the PM of Canada gave an address to Ukrainian Canadians with a big UPA flag directly in front of him. Had it been the German equivalent Nazi flag would be have gone on with his speech?

For those that do not know OUN/UPA and Stephan Bandera here is and exempt of their party platform:

The Jews in the USSR constitute the most faithful support of the ruling Bolshevik regime, and the vanguard of Muscovite imperialism in Ukraine. The Muscovite-Bolshevik government exploits the anti-Jewish sentiments of the Ukrainian masses to divert their attention from the true cause of their misfortune and to channel them in a time of frustration into pogroms on Jews. The OUN combats the Jews as the prop of the Muscovite-Bolshevik regime and simultaneously it renders the masses conscious of the fact that the principal foe is Moscow.

> ethnic Russians, Poles, and Jews that are hostile to us are to be destroyed in struggle, particularly those opposing the regime, by means of: deporting them to their own lands, eradicating their intelligentsia, which is not to be admitted to any governmental positions, and overall preventing any creation of this intelligentsia (e.g. access to education etc)... Jews are to be isolated, removed from governmental positions in order to prevent sabotage... Those who are deemed necessary may only work under strict supervision and removed from their positions for slightest misconduct... Jewish assimilation is not possible.

So in the west we may have forgotten about OUN/UPA or the meaning of the Ukrainian Nazi flag (red and black) but I imagine the Russians were well thought the meaning and seeing those flag on TV in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine could easily make people think Putin's claims are true.

Long before this crisis Ukraine was warned by western allies to clear out the OUN type ( this was long before 2014 when Ukraine made Bandera a national hero and Poland, Israel Latvia and many more protested forcing Ukraine to reverse it decision).

Now a mad man comes along and he got one more thing to and to his list of supposed grievances.

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

Every extra day this war last the more people die, the more destruction and the longer time it will take to recover. Russia has made an offer and Zelenski needs to consider what is best for his country. More death and destruction or an acceptance that Russia has taken a chunk of land.

My personal view is Zelenski is now the bigger problem and his insitance of putting civilian lives at risk is shaky.

It is not looking good for the world and I am hoping some practical and realistic thinking is taking place because the tip-toe into a long-term disaster seems to be the direction we are allowing our leaders to take us. Borris is failing the UK and in reality he is being supported by all the other parties.

I am ashamed of the UK response and its inability to see zelensky as no more worthy of praise as putin. Zelensky may not have invaded another country but he is now holding his population as hostage.

At this point the sensible option is a realisation that putin has successfully made a land grab, a complete stopping of the war and rebuilding ukraine is a small junk of land that before. The sanctions against russia will still be there, the build-up of NATO in NATO countries will continue and at least no more death and destruction.

As for the alledged war-crimes, putin is an old man and realistically even if he we were able to get him to the hague and find him guilty the amount of time taken would most likely be longer than he has to live anyway.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

Why would Ukrainians want to flee to the country that is invading them?

Russia fanboys will never hear a word against their beloved master.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

For some reason the past few days my Youtube recommendations only show Russian propaganda from people living in Kiev, Donbas and the now banned across the flat Earth RT News, so I'm not sure how to proceed from here. There needs to be way more censorship and aggressive suppression of free speech otherwise the FSB will win this one.

Algorithms, how do they work?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Yes all one sided.

no one wants to hear about the Russian population being unable to get to work, get paid, feed their families, buy food or medicine.

it’s this weird “everyone is complicit” and must be fully punished unless they “take out Putin” idea.

In war, innocents suffer, which is why we should be going out of our way and try to do everything possible not to start wars. When they start, we should be doing everything possible to end them as quickly as possible. RT in English is still online if you care to get the Russian perspective.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

UdondashiToday  07:56 am JST

Amnesty International is claiming that Ukraine is violating the rights of prisoners of war that should be protected under Geneva Convention

Don't waste time, even Shy news said it violated the convention then proceeded to show it anyway saying Ukraine was in a fight for it's existence.

I don't agree with Putin what he has done is wrong but the hypocrisy and double standards are off the charts.

If Russia did this we'd be screaming and just yesterday Saudi Arabia again bombed Yemen the capital of Yemen has been bombed out of existence and the attacks continue and here we are focused on this only and the ending thing is never made much of a new impact in the West.

But like the Ukrainian official said seeing blonde haired blue-eyed Europeans dying breaks his heart.

Hypocrites a lot of us.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

So why do the writers never mention any comments from the Russian side or does that not fit the one-sided narrative?

Putin would be deranged if he didn't take advantage of the assymetrical power deficit. IMHO, Ukraine will be a walk in the park.

So every country with a smaller neighbor should just take advantage of them? Also, what does a "walk in the park" look like to you?

And to think this is probably going to get a helluva lot worse before it gets better. Now Russia is hiring, yes - hiring, Syrian fighters.

So why do the writers never mention any comments from the Russian side or does that not fit the one-sided narrative?

he is completely ostracized from the world community in every capacity, so unless he wants to stay in Russia entire hermit, then so be it

I so wish, for the sake of the Ukrainian civilian population that what you say make any difference. It hasn't, it has hardened Putin, he has shifted his strategy, like he did in Syria to wanton destruction, he's not even remotely interested in hitting military target, he has been sending planes into cities to pick civilian targets to cause as much mayhem and sufferings as possible. Yes, we have seen this in Syria, Obama warned of consequences if chemical weapons were used, then nothing. Not even a tickle with the feathersword. History is repeating in Ukraine, Biden warns of massive unprecedented consequences, then nothing substantial (other media beatup).

Don't think Putin hasn't factored in the fact NATO is all show and no go, ie no capability to fight, just deterrence. It'd be a hermit that can't see Putin has sized NATO up and see that deterrence is all hot air, and NATO just doesn't have the capability. For the last decade Putin has been upgrading his conventional war fighting capability whilst NATO is dithering and locking into Russian energy dependency. Putin would be deranged if he didn't take advantage of the assymetrical power deficit. IMHO, Ukraine will be a walk in the park.

They are free to evacuate the cities and go to Russia or Belarus.

Why would Ukrainians want to flee to the country that is invading them? That's jumping out of the pan and into the fire.

So the Azov Battalion, Right Sektor, C-14 aren't neo-Nazi organizations?

They don't control anything. There are right-wing, neo-Nazi groups in practically every country.

Again, the fact that there are neo-Nazis in Ukraine doesn't justify invading Ukraine.

I am not saying that they are not, but what you are doing (hopefully unwittingly), is giving cover to Putin's excuses for the invasion of the entirety of Ukraine.

Russia snubbed the court proceedings, leaving its seats in the Great Hall of Justice empty.

Honestly seems like poor form. I get that it is probably reciprocation for the entirety of the UN refusing to do their jobs and talk to Russia last week, but I will say the same thing I said then. Diplomats and ambassadors job is to sit and talk to the other side no matter how much they hate each other. I think it was a mistake for Russia to not at least hear the court out.

The battle for Mariupol is crucial because its capture could allow Moscow to establish a land corridor to Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014.

Strategic importance is part of it I am sure, but it is also the Azov headquarters. If you want to remove nazis it is pretty much the biggest item on Russia's checklist of places to occupy next to the capital.

Russian forces are turning against Putin. And the Russian Military are actually apologizing to The Ukrainians. Putin had no idea that The Ukraine had such passion for their country. Putin had no idea that his army has no will to fight. Putin has to call in Sierra. If Putin starts to use chemical weapons, Putin is done.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

It is not unlikely there will a coup in Russian and the end of Putin. Thousands of Russians have demonstrated against the rape of Ukraine and have been arrested while the Ukrainian resistance continues. Soon enough the of top people will see what ordinary people see already: The mess is not worth the prize.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

The only thing stopping the civilians evacuating Kharkiv, Mariupol and etc to safety in Russia is the fact they are basically being held hostage by the neo-Nazis who know going to Russia or Belarus means certain and swift death for them. Liquidating those 1000s of the hardest of the hardline neo-Nazis will be a devastating blow for the overall regime so Russia won't let them escape and the regime won't give up on them no matter what.

You gotta stop with the "neo-nazi" thing. It's pro-Putin propaganda and the pro-Putin folks are the only ones still trying to spread this.

1 ( +12 / -11 )

Russia, Putin, is desperate to look strong. He needs for Zelensky to give up first. If Ukraine does not surrender then Putin will be made a fool of nationally and internationally.

No surprises here watching Putin's slow but relentless land grab: while Russians picked up some valuable bizness know-how from 240 years of Mongol rule, they also learned a few lessons from them in oriental brutality to add to their stock of native Russian ruthlessness.

And when Putin's military come for whichever country his online army members are originally from, will they continue to post pro-Putin messages or perhaps go live somewhere in the Russian Federation.

That's pretty much par for the course when your country is being invaded, especially by a numerically superior enemy. This is a life or death struggle for Ukraine.

How can anyone say Putin's done.Especially if he still has his brutal military supporting him, and he's threatening nukes, and appears to be insane enough to use them?

he’s a pariah and he’s done, it’s just a matter of time and despite with all the nukes and people supporting him, he is completely ostracized from the world community in every capacity, so unless he wants to stay in Russia entire hermit, then so be it. He will never be part of anything remotely normal.

The ex-US president and his master of war Pompeo are getting support from their media to go negotiate with Putin,

So he shouldn’t have?? Why not? They are after all our biggest nuclear rival. what is wrong trying to negotiate and work with them to bring the level of tension down especially since both of us carry nukes.

a male both Republicans have claimed is 'savvy', even called a 'genius'.

Yes, how he executed this horrific war.

For more evidence of that pair's ineffectiveness see how they negotiated with the Taliban to give them even greater control over Afghanistan,

Which this current President botched.

Let's hope that the situation is contained in Ukraine, I would be very concerned if fighting spills over to neighboring European countries, like a rotten apple. Resist and Bite, Ukrainian people! If only there was a way they could accept foreign volunteers for the cause, I'd sign up.

I agree with that.

Therefore Putin and ALL his follower and supporter Mob must be wiped out!

Otherwise this sorrow and pain, which these ash.les are bringing to the Ukraine and probably continue to bring it to the next country and the next... will never end.

If you know anything about Russia's War in Chechnya, you can understand the brutality of the Russian military. That said, I find it extremely hypocritical of Russia to recognize the two breakaway regions Donetsk and Luhansk while not accepting Chechen independence. You can't have it both ways.

Since the invasion, Japam, Philippines, South Korea, even Vietnam have all publicly announced a shift in their nuclear capability. Do nothing?

Sigh....history repeating, you're not related to Chamberlain clan by chance?

Amnesty International is claiming that Ukraine is violating the rights of prisoners of war that should be protected under Geneva Convention.

True, but in the context of a war where the other side is leveling cities with the people still in them, I’m not too worked up about that. Its a bit like comparing a mass murderer and a guy who got a parking ticket and inviting us to conclude that since they both broke a law they are both on the same level.

Imagine what Russia COULD do, and would do if it were the U.S. attacking as we have seen across our world.

Imagining if Russia were the US? In your mind no one from the west can criticize Russia? Too bad, Russia is wrong and will have severe consequences for decades to come.

a medieval-style siege by Moscow to batter it into submission.

But I think the global right who are pushing for a strong man to follow behind, they seem to want a return to the days of sieges, they want to go back to some mythical days when their leader told them things had been great. Me, I like air conditioning, I want to see progress do not want to go back to being ruled by someone who had power because one of his ancestors had killed off the most people.Let Russians choose their tsars if tat's what they want, Russians need to remember how serfs were treated by their religion and royals, and that many Russians today came from generations of serfs.Break the loop.

Soviet republics that are NATO members. Blinken hoped to reassure them of the alliance’s protection.

I imagine people in each of the formers SSRs are concerned seeing the monster USSR they were freed from come back just as nasty, with NATO being unable to do little to help, for fear of starting a nuke war. NATO are doomed if they do, damned if they don't.

The U.N. human rights office reported 406 confirmed civilian deaths but said the real number is much higher. The invasion has also sent 1.7 million people fleeing Ukraine.

This in 2022! The world still reeling from another tragedy (pandemic) caused by China's authoritarianism.

Yet the leaders of the free world doesn't know who to punish and who to discipline.

CHINA must be cut off completely, else Russia will continue on its current path.

Putin knows EUROPE has under invested on defense for decades, he will be sizing up Europe's deterrence strategy, and it doesn't take a genius to know that Europe will be next if Putin conquered Ukraine and Europe will be a walk in the park compared to Ukraine.
