I doubt this coup will result in anymore freedom for the Zimbabwe people, but getting rid of the Mugabes makes the world a little better. Robert Mugabe’s crimes against humanity are well documented. Holding him responsible and bringing justice to the people he has murdered is probably out of the question but hope dies hard.

Here is to hoping for a peaceful resolution! There is far too much violence and strife in Africa, and the world hardly takes any notice.

It's deeply ironic that Mugabe, who imported North Korean advisors to train his death squads in the 1980s, was propped up in power by 'loans' from his best mate in Asia, Shinzo Abe. Funny old world, isn't it. Not for the long-suffering people of Zimbabwe though.

What comes now with various factions of Zanu PF bouncing off each other and the opposition still sidelined?

From the heady days of revolution, when people welcomed Comrade Bob and all the promise that came with it to the economic disaster and brutalities of later years... the country has undergone quite a transformation. It will be a while yet before the country and the people can mend.

If he does end up going it is about time.  He has ruined a once prosperous nation.  hopefully this will give the opposition a chance (although not sure how much better they will be).

Please dont replace him with the same.

By 2007-2008 inflation topped out at 500 billion percent.

That's nearly 16,000% per second. Thats $10 becoming $.06 every second.

Whatever tyrant may follow, "Boss Monkey" Mugabe's fall from power was long overdue thanks to his foreign sponsors and enablers. The people of Zimbabwe need to send a clear message in one word to the military junta: Democracy!

Great to hear this old knuckle-dragger is caged where he belongs.

@ Alfie Noakes - thats interesting. Not shocked that Mugabe would be the type of leader Abe would support, however.

Pretty exhaustive article/review of the situation in Zimbabwe yet not a single word about the murders of hundreds if not thousands white farmers which have been taking place in Zimbabwe and SA for the past 2 decades! Wrong ethnic group?

Zimbabwe used to be one of the most successful, stable and wealthy African countries until this evil man got his hands on the levers of power in 1980. Now it's a basket case, can't feed itself and has runaway inflation. Read what the last white PM of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe has to say on the matter, very eye-opening.

Some would say he caused what happened.

Rhodesia is gone and rightly so. The promise of change was an opportunity that couldn't be ignored. And the future could have been bright. But Mugabe betrayed the revolution, and ultimately his people.

Now he's going and Grace is out of the picture.

Let the people control their destiny.
