Looks like this area is part of Ukraine now. What's the net gain of Russia this year? Negative?

Time for a referendum!

Invasions of Russia end with mass bloodshed - read a history book. If you actually examine a map, it is a rather small border area of no strategic significance, particularly since they failed with their blitzkrieg on KNPP. They are just roaming around small, now evacuated settlements, no one has ever heard of, with no clear strategic or otherwise military objective, unable to advance deep into the steppes of Russia.

The opposite is true in Donbass. While Pokrovsk gets a few mentions, there have been important developments around Toretsk. New York has clearly fallen opening up another front on the latter, now already invested, which once taken will open the back door to Kostyantynivka, threatening the AFU grouping in Chasiv Yar and opening up the door to the Slaviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. Along with Pokrovsk, this will be the writing on the wall for Kyiv-regime forces in Donbass.

However, people have lost sight of the most important factor in a war of attrition, which is the Loss Exchange Ratio. All evidence suggests it is still heavily in Russia's favour with Ukraine haemorrhaging manpower at an unsustainable rate. Along with similar artillery, airpower, munitions imbalances, a grim long-term picture emerges.

It is written Niu-York a city in Ukraine but even USA major News services have regularly misspelled it as New York.

This is incorrect. Russia is losing over 1000 troops a day, and while we don't have numbers for Ukraine, most analysts agree that it is multiples less than Russia. Which makes sense because Russia is on the attack.

Along with similar artillery, airpower, munitions imbalances, a grim long-term picture emerges.

Plenty of artillery, airpower, munitions coming from the US.

If one believes Russia is losing 1000 men a day, you've really drunk the Kool Aid.

Actually it's Нью-Йорк in Ukraine.

It is interesting that Ukraine destroyed 3 bridges and it is front page news.

But in the past few months Russia has destroyed dozens of Bridges especially nearly all the bridges over the Oskil in Kup'Yans'K and we never got any reports in western media.

The difference is Russia has plenty of Pontoon bridges available and the river in question is narrow enough to use a pontoon bridge, the Oskil is far to wide for most pontoon bridges.

I honestly don't care about either side, I just wish the western news would be more realistic and give us facts without propaganda

I expect propaganda from Russian news and Ukrainian news, but I was hoping that western news would be honest and neutral in reporting.

Irrelevant, because the name has been changed back to Novhorodske. And not the only place to have a name change (not to mention ownership change) in the last 24 hours.

Uk military intelligence is a joke and their three-point bulletin 'updates' on SM are an even bigger joke - they started the shovels things and all sorts of nonsensical allegations. You name it... Russia is running out of missiles, Russia is running out of tanks, Russia is running out of water...

Invasions of Russia end with mass bloodshed

Of Russian “Space Troops”…

Security guards, warehouse personnel, pencil-pushers given an AK and called a “motorized rifle unit” (without motors).

The UA will have a grind them into ash.

And Vodka as well. And they can’t source crap vodka from Iran or DORK like they can their crap munitions.

Fact is, there are more forces coming to Kursk from rear echelon areas. A prime example is a big wave of Chechen special forces on their way (mentioned in the other article about Putin's visit to Chechnya).

Secondly, Putin will not negotiate any Kursk territory - not one square inch. Any belief to the contrary was in error. As was the whole gambit.

Doesn't help when the Chechen commander, Alaudinov published a video message responding to the "sobs and outbursts" about Russian conscripts fighting in Kursk Oblast, complaining that parents of conscripts are treating 18-year-olds as children. Probably won't do much for morale.

When under violent attack, attack back.

Go Ukraine!

9 ( +10 / -1 )

So, the AFU is attacking in Kursk. They must be taking high casualties.

Not as many as one would think. The UA are so busy accepting the surrender of Russian cannon fodder that they don’t have much opportunity to fight.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

There are some interesting perspectives, even amongst the bridges and what this means.

Rubles for trolling and rubles for lies

Try three smashed up bridges for size.

It is written Niu-York a city in Ukraine but even USA major News services have regularly misspelled it as New York.

The name of the settlement was given by the German in their German language, which has nothing to do with English. But in Russian (initially, since the name of the settlmnt was given when it was part of the Russian Empire) and in Ukrainian, the name is written Нью-Йорк, which fully corresponds to the English New York. For greater accuracy, you need to look for the name on German maps. I know it as Neu Jork in German.

Me too. I believe their assessments that Russia was / is running out of missiles, tanks and ammo. Russian economy is collapsing under sanctions and Ghost of Kyiv was real. I believe....

Be careful and don't believe everything JJE says. The UK military intelligence said none of those things.

I wonder where your "western news "gets the truthful information? How can your "news" tell us what is happening on the Russian side of the front? Don't make our sneakers laugh :) To understand the truth, devoid of propaganda, you need to read texts from the participants in military operations: from Ukrainians and Russians (no matter how much you hate them). And there is no more reliable way to get information than by telegram. Read 100-150 different telegram sources and you will be able to make the most reliable analysis yourself. The article in question was written by Ilya Novikov. He is a very smart man. And I don't understand how he, a person with encyclopedic knowledge, can write so many lies! And you all here believe him ...

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Just so I understand the current situation:

1) Putin announced, some two and a bit years ago, that the Russian army was going to "liberate" Kyiv.

2) That didn't happen.

3) Ukraine is now starting to take Russian territory and Putin is probably looking to blame any general he hasn't yet had thrown out of a window.

Am I missing anything? (Answers from Boris and Olga will be automatically disregarded)

UK Defense Intelligence: Russia running out of modern weaponry May 9, 2022. According to the recent intelligence update by the U.K. Defense Ministry, Russia will struggle to replace the precision weaponry it has already expended....

Which was correct.

and

Russia has problems with production of air-launched missiles

Apr 9, 2024 — British intelligence has reported that Russia is likely to face problems in missile production due to sanctions and haste...

Again correct.

Notice no mention of the Ghost of Kyiv.

If you really want to look at thing in that way.

I remember in the summer of 2023 (more recently) billions of dollars given to Ukraine with thousands upon thousands of equipment for a summer offensive and that Ukraine was going to reach Crimea.

Did they?

Oh wait, nope Russia has retaken the tiny bit Ukraine did get back.

More recently Avdiivka will never fall, it did and since then so has the 2014 line and the first and second lines after that.

This is the problem, silly rhetoric that means nothing today.

Ukraine has entered Russia, the question to be seen is can it hold it.

The situation in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and that Ukraine couldn't even hold the summer 2023 Zaporizhzhia front gains in Ukraine proper and is losing territory fast in Donetsk, should make people think, if Ukraine cannot do it inside Ukraine what are the chances it can inside Russia once the full brunt of the Russian military hits back.

And it honors war criminals and ethic cleansing by nationalist terrorist and racist as heroes.

UPA and OUN are today seen as heroes, the present government has rewritten history, acting like these were patriots fighting the soviets but forget to mention that they started not in the Soviet Ukraine but in pre war democratic Poland and their victims were ethnic Polish, Lithuanian, Jewish women and children.

So like I said neither side can be trusted.

After 2014 Ukraine did everything to make it impossible for the separatists to rejoin Ukraine including anti Russian language laws and claiming Russians were not originally in Ukraine despite historical facts.

A simple look at why and who built Kharkiv as a fortress against raids in the early 17th century tells us that it was Russia and the region was under the protection of Moscow.

So when the Ukrainian regime tried gas lighting that Russians only came after Stalin, we know the racist propaganda machine is in full swing.

So I stand by my view, both sides are not worth the effort of caring what happens to them.

It's a generic reference to our Russian apologists and fans on this site who clearly have a significant amount of rubles invested in Russia "winning", going by the inordinate amount of time they spend spinning this (almost three year) farce into a PR exercise for the Kremlin. Just as you might use "Angus" as a generic term for a Scotsman, "Paddy" for an Irishman, and so on.

Most of what's going on in Sumy is from the Russian side. From TikTok, to State Propaganda. Ukraine keeps what's going on VERY close to it's chest. What we have been able to piece together is:

1) They did play Russia a bit. Releasing bits and scapes that they were concerned about Sumy and building up defenses. When in fact they built up an invasion force.

2) The Russians were a lot of young conscripts Putin promised to keep out of harms way. And they were very green. Some photos showing a lot of dead 18-20 year olds piled into transport vehicles in a close line. Militarily speaking easy to KIA.

3) Chechen Tik Tok thugs assigned to the area seemed to know things were bad and purposely avoided the offensive so they could live another day to stream their war atrocities.

4) This is part of something larger and we do not know exactly what that is yet.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Nobody said that, 'Ukraine was going to reach Crimea'. Nobody said that 'Russians only have shovels', or 'Have run out of missiles'.

This is patently false as anyone who has been on JT for a while and followed the discussion knows. Apart from numerous media articles on goals of the 2023 UA counter offensive that are just a Google away , the above lines were posted on here by many of our expert friends repeatedly. Doesn't matter how many times you / they deny it.

That's where your reducing everything to an incorrect meme gets you. Nobody said "Russians only have shovels".

What they did say, that the newly mobilized troops (from Putin's announced mobilization in September 2022) are so numerous, that supplies are short (including bullets) so they may have to resort to MPL-50 shovels for had-to-hand combat. (The MPL-50 entrenching tool is particularly mythologized in Russia as a hand-to-hand combat tool)

This turns into "Russians only have shovels". Forever.

Disingenuous.
