ABC News' Gibson lands first Palin interview

Well...I just hope for all our sakes that Charlie Gibson does a better job with the Palin interview than he did with McCain's the other day. You don't let someone change their quote after the fact, which in turn, changes the entire line of questioning you are asking.

Gibson was an embarrassment to all journalists on that one.

Makes you wonder why they have kept her under wraps since the convention? And now they only agree to a tightly-controlled situation. She is supposed to be running for public office, but does not want to answer questions from the public. Palin has less than one month before her debate with Joe Biden. Bet she and the Republican brain-trust are very nervous.

They are hiding her until they can train her to respond properly to the media. Because.

He bulldog on the attack act at the convention sold well with the faithful GOP members but fell flat with the rest of the country.

They know she's a back woods right winger and likely to say something that will worry the rest of the country enough to damage their chances at winning the election.

She told a lot of lies and half truths in her GOP Con speach and will have to explain a lot of that. I'm sure the press will call her to accounts on these points.

Her maverick record of decisions has been revealed to be all smoke as most of the items she claimed responsiblity for, such as the bridge, would have changed if she existed or not. So much for doing great work Palin.

Alaska represents the whole of America in the same way some remote part of Hokkaido represents the whole of Japan. Alaska is simply not in line with mainstream America and Palin's experience in that sparcely populated state and those relatively tiny cities just is not enough. Under observation, any press she gets now will harm their campaign.

Palin was a choice of desperation. McCain will be fighting to protect his VP all the way to the end. And she will be eaten alive by Biden in the debates. No prayer for her there either.

This interview is taking the bit in her teeth. They could have chosen a GOP friendly broadcaster like FOX but instead they chose to go with hostile ABC. Everyone is prepped for interviews and she is just a few days out of the convertion. If she does well in this one you will see a lot more of her on the sunday talk shows. Obama has been in reverse all week, backtracking on the surge and now he is saying that maybe he can't reverse the Bush tax cuts. Today's Gallop poll shows McCain 3 points ahead of Obama nation wide and, for the first time, he leads in Elecotrial College votes.

And she will be eaten alive by Biden in the debates.

Riiight. As if debating has ever been Biden's strong suit...

Obama is a black man who can speak well, and says "change" over and over again. McCain is a vet who is too old, Palin is a hot hockey mom who has more experience than Obama. And I can't vote for any of them. The two-party system in America is flawed and a piece of crap. No matter what, inexperience will be in the White House in 2009. Be it a good looking speaks well empty suit black man, or a hot hockey mom from Alaska. We get more choices from McDonalds then we do for a president.

Actually third party candidates have had a monumental impact on some elections. When Teddy Roosevelt started the Bull Moose party to counter Taft, they Split the Republican party and guaranteed a Democrat victory. Ross Perot garnered engough votes to scuttle George H.W. Bush's run for re-election and Nader drew enough votes in Fla. to give that state and the presidency to "W".

I could never stand Charlie Gibson. I was a regular viewer of ABC World News; when Peter Jennings died I stopped watching ABC World News. Even when Peter was anchor it was on its slide to becoming entertainment news. I dare her to do an interview with Jim Lehrer who is the most neutral news person on the planet. Someone mentioned Fox News; yes it could be worse it could be with Chris Wallace. Obama is a brave candidate he had an interview with Bill O'Reilly on the 5th of September. McCain and Palin go for the fluff interviews. I like dry news. Hard core news. BBC and The Jim Lehrer News Hour are very credible news programs. I get most of my news from the major newspapers in America (online). I also check out stories I am reading with other sources.

If I had my druthers I would like to see each of them do an hour or more press conference by themselves. No introduction and they must find their own exit strategy. Those could be brutal.

I skipped the GOP convention. If you've heard one "big-government, big spender, anti-health, anti-science, anti-poor, fundie-religious fascist" speech, you've heard them all.
