“She can’t have it, this is going on eBay,” she told reporters

and one can guess what the proceeds of the sale would be spent on. Wondering where the nearest Dan Murphy's is?

I am glad that the aboriginal leaders have come out and slammed this disgrace as just that a group of trouble makers hell bent on causing mischief. They have reacted to a statement by Abbott that is in no way disrespectful or racist he was asked a simple question and answered honestly that maybe it was time to move on from the tent embassy.

It is disappointing to hear that today there was another protest where these bludgers have burned Australian flags and caused more dramas they really arnt doing their cause any good thats for sure. And even worse its come out that someone in the PM office tipped the protestors off to the location of Abbott and the PM. Someone should be looking for a new job soon.

Looking at the Australian television news footage, I counted in the "scrum":

Two politicians.

50 police.

40 journalists.

3 protestors.

The "crowd" of protestors was about 20 metres away.

Cletus, I suspect it's more likely that it was someone from Abbott's staff that told the folks at the Tent Embassy that the politicians were there. The Prime Minister looked genuinely surprised and distressed -- Abbott looked as if the events were unfolding just as he expected them to.

As reported in the Herald Sun today

PRIME minister Julia Gillard says she is unaware of allegations a member of her staff rang a member of the Aboriginal tent embassy yesterday to say Tony Abbott wanted them shut down, as today furious activists torched the Australian flag.

Looks like a Labour stunt backfired on them. Maybe they forgot to tell Gillard. Either way the protestors are a disgrace and should be charged if applicable.

Cletus,

Recent reports are that a Gillard staffer was responsible for notifying those at the Tent Embassy, and he has been sacked.

From what I can gather, Gillard had not been told, and the action was not done with her authority.

Look at the television footage again, though.

There were, according to reports, a total of 50 protestors outside the restaurant.

The footage shows that they were at the front door, in King George Avenue.

The politicians were ushered out of the side door, into Parkes Place -- about 20 metres away from the protestors.

Three protestors managed to get within five metres of the Commonwealth car as it drove off.

The jostling crowd that the police were trying to protect the pollies from was not the protestors -- it was the journalists.

This all sounds like it was a staged hoax on the Aussie MP, just my hunch. The native Australians, I am sure were never to happy to be invaded, but who has ever been happy to be invaded??

I'd take your word for it... except for the picture that accompanies this article. The guy in the right foreground looks neither like a reporter nor a politician. He appears to have just been pushed out of the way and is dressed how you would expect a protester (as opposed to a journalist or politician) would dress. And that's just the one captured in this shot. Still want to stick to that "20 meter" claim?

Yeah, but Fadamor, do you see a crowd? I see a crowd of police and bodyguards, not protestors or journalists in that picture.

I think this is drama queenery on the part of the bodyguards and police. It seems they want to say "Hey, look at us! We are useful!".

Even that one old guy, the only one I am sure is a protestor in front, does he look angry and dangerous to you? He looks docile as a mouse to me. Nobody is even paying direct attention to him. Look at the bodyguard with his arms outstretched and his uber serious expression. That guy fantasizes that he is damned important. Then you got the guy with his arms around the PM. He has been dying to do that since his or her first day on the job I bet.

This is a show. I can't believe anyone is taking this forced drama seriously.

It's one thing to say the media or politicians are blowing this out of proportion, but you should at least leave the bodyguards out of this. All it takes is one crazy person who knows how to aim a weapon and you have a dead PM on your hands. The bodyguards were simply doing their job. Heck, Ronald Reagan was nearly assassinated, and that was from just one guy who managed to walk right up to him! The bodyguards need to be paranoid.

latest news is a Labor Union official headed to the Tent Embassy and told them. Of course, Juliar says she doesn't know the woman but Sky News has just shown a photo of them dining together very recently! Ahhh another lie.

Wow. We all know that politics can be a dirty game as they say. But really ALP is bringing it to a new low. It is one grubby thing after another: intimidation, harassment, bribery and prosititution (known as the Craig Thomspon affair), lying, going back on their word, mismanagement of tax payers money in a HUGE way, deceitful way of gaining power and then turning her back on her word.

Deplore:

The bodyguards didn't seem to be doing all that good a job: the person in that group who is presented as the biggest target to any attacker and is in the most vulnerable position is the Prime Minister.

Australiangirl:

Are you sure that your comments shouldn't finish with the words "written and authorised by... on behalf of the Liberal Party of Australia"?
