I approve of the word "roil" used in the headline.

I am all for abortion and feel kids should have the right to "abort" their parents. =fair is fair.

The only time when I'm willing for abortion in this Public healthcare is in cases of rape, or in cases where the mothers life is certainly in danger. But just handing out abortions willy nilly to whoever wants it?
If a person doesn't want a child because they were too foolish, or totally ignored the fact that they should have taken precautions before having unprotected sex then no one else has the responsibility to take the fall for their decisions for them. Adoption is alway on the table and they should have thought about the consequences sooner.
realist
I am not American (thank God) but if I was, I would be opposing Obama`s healthcare plan. I think it is disgusting that a man like Obama, who claims to have a Christian faith, is pro-abortion. I would certainly not like my tax dollars to be used for the murder of innocent children.
skipthesong
I know abortions are paid by public health care in Japan. Anyone know if it is in Canada? If you are going to allow abortions, why not allow vasectomies? Especially now that they are reversible.. oh, and having ones tubes tied too.
numbskull
I don't recall the passage of the Bible where it says "Thou shalt not abort a fetus." I also don't recall the part defining where a brainless mass of cells becomes a human life with a soul.
If you got your own ideas about that, that is fine. But please don't pretend your personal beliefs on that are shared by all Christians or that you have a clear reason to tell us it conflicts with Christian faith.
And frankly, please don't force your religious beliefs on the rest of us. If you have a good secular reason to oppose abortion, great. If not, please practice your faith in peace and leave us in ours.

skipthesong: To my knowledge, abortions are available upon request and funded by national health insurance in many hospitals across Canada. At public and private clinics, I believe a woman may have to pay for it herself, depending on the province.
If Americans want abortions covered by their health care, then there should also be proper sex education in schools teaching youth how to use birth control, especially condoms. And birth control should be very cheap and easily accessible. Thus, hopefully, the number of women seeking abortions will be as low as possible.
numbskull
Exactly! But we have people who don't want to teach that properly, and then turn around and want to punish women for getting pregnant! Yes, I know they also think they are saving a baby, but the punishment factor is also a large part of their insane "reasoning." Hello! There would be less need for abortions if the PTA was not watering down sex ed!
skipthesong
There would be less need for abortions if the PTA was not watering down sex ed!" Well, I agree with you, but I also think much of the media also would help. If they are going to purport volunteerism, I wish they would make it seem that teen sex is "not cool".. I don't know, but I do believe the media has assisted the increase of teen pregnancy and I think as long as a parent is present, abortion should be funded by the national health care. My wife had pushed a few years ago to have the J National Health Care to fund such abortions. for some reason, it was turned down.

Try "Thou shalt not kill." Try to decide exactly when that mass of cells with a once-and-never-again combination of DNA becomes a human. Remember the last time a group of people rationalised the slaughter of hundreds of thousands, and ask yourself, am I not doing the same thing?
yabits
LOL!!!!
Well, if we observe the "natural" processes at work in human reproduction, we will find that greater than 70% of fertilized human ova will be flushed out of the system either through a complete failure to attach to the uterine wall, or by an improper attachment to same. For those who feel that human life is sacred at conception, that flushing represents a "slaughter" of vastly more "human lives" than are terminated via abortion.
When confronted with that fact, you have to wonder about the message sent by the supposed "author" of a process in which the vast majority of potential humans are "snuffed out" from the get-go.
victimcrat
If the Democrat Party understands one thing it is that nothing typifies the liberal-progressive ethos like abortion does: "I made a mistake, the rest of society needs to pay for it."
zurcronium
Victimcrat,
sounds more like the republican bankers who went bankrupt and then pleaded to be bailed out by the taxpayers. That is fact, your post is fiction. Billions of bailout funds prove that.
Regarding healthcare the wingers do not care about the 20,000 babies who die after being born because the US healthcare system is so vile and dysfunctional. They only care about fetuses which are not human. After kids are born if they die they do not care.
skipthesong
the US healthcare system is so vile and dysfunctional." That's a low blow. To say we don't provide the best care we are trained to do because we don't want to is screwed up. I cared for enough people who couldn't care about themselves. Don't forget, who set the insurance regulations in place.
usaexpat
Oh, heavens we wouldn't to pay for abortions we'd rather support those babies from cradle to grave with welfare and unlimited social services. My god the conservatives can't seem to get it straight whether they want to beat the bible or be fiscally conservative which paying for abortions would be.
skipthesong
actually, this is not a fault of the insurance companies. You can already buy such insurance, not sure how wide spread it is and how much you can buy, will look into it, but you can already buy it.. I don't see the problem. For the other posters, you are aware that there is no such thing as a government insurance don't you? They will put much of this in one or two insurance carriers hands. Actually, this bill actually helps them. Don't believe with your heart.
zurcronium
Skipthesong,
not sure what exactly you are saying but the insurance regulations were of course put in place by the insurance companies. That is how for example they got anti-trust protection in place decades ago. Check your facts.
This is a rare point in time where industry does not dictate policy in Washington DC. Usually industry gets what it wants, like the last 8 years under Bush.
skipthesong
No zurc, you've answered nothing except exposing your bias. I at least hate both parties. check your facts. Each state an insurance carrier operates, must follow said states regs and must compete with said states state insurance. Of course there are lobbysts, which as you should be aware, Hillary has been the biggest beneficiary of said donations - you can not deny that. Now, For example, if you live in say NJ but the closest medical provider is in Philly just over the bridge from Trenton, you can not take it across because Penn. has its rules governing over insurance and they have their state players - not all insurance companies operate over state regions, but do operate in small locals. If you ever had to fill out such claims on behalf of a hospital, you'd know. Now, as for you hate on Bush and this topic, what has Bush accomplished that made things better for the insurance companies and worse for patients? Lastly, just who is going to be giving you this insurance? Or did you really think there was going to be a government office set up?
OneForAll
Healthcare is about life. It is seen as a right by some for all. Funds were diverted from taking care of the aged to the abortion mill (good money there). Abortion was taken out and the monies used for life. Recently a director of a planned parenthood (misnomer) watched an abortion via sonar and immediately resigned and joined the other camp. We really need this bill for the 40 million uninsured but cannot compromise our most vulnerable members of humanity.
numbskull
With all the approved killing in the Bible, I always thought something was wrong with that. Church leaders agree. That is why that passage was retranslated to the more accurate "Thou shalt not murder." I cannot see how killing a mass of brainless cells with less going on upstairs than a house fly would be murder, but killing the house fly isn't.
Anyway, secular reasons please. Do not try to force your religious beliefs on us. If you don't want to practice abortion, don't.
skipthesong
Anyway, secular reasons please. Do not try to force your religious beliefs on us." But political beliefs are ok?
numbskull
I suppose so. It is politics that hold us together as a secular nation, not religion. We need to set national laws so that we can exist and function as a nation, not so that we can satisfy religious belief.
illsayit
I dont know what you are talking about religion for? Abortion is a choice. Actually it invloves 2 choices to even get to the situation of having to decide, right? It sort of seems like if the government funded abortions they would fund sterilization, which is kind of scary to think about, as if the government decides these things?
victimcrat
The progressive - left's creepy enthusiasm for abortion goes back to the 1920's. It was an integral part of the eugenics agenda which was central to what the most famous progressive of the day, HG Wells, had called for - 'liberal fascism' (source of the title for the Jonah Goldberg bestseller).
Madverts
"Anyway, secular reasons please. Do not try to force your religious beliefs on us. If you don't want to practice abortion, don't."
Amazing isn't it? One minute it's all about freedumb and the next they want you to believe the earth was made in 6 days and the freedom of choice for an abotion constitutes as "infantacide".
I don't wish to deny these people a voice as it only shows them to be the loonies they are, but it's more than a fine example of the neccesity of seperation if church and state.
Madverts
Jeeez my typing's atrocious. Sorry.
