sad but when you poke your nose around chasing stories in a war zone you kind of have to expect it

The NY Times has said he was shot at a Ukrainian (not Russian) checkpoint and that the press badge he was carrying was from 7 years ago.

The NY Times has said he was shot at a Ukrainian (not Russian) checkpoint and that the press badge he was carrying was from 7 years ago.

I had seen the part about the old badge, but did you have a link to the NYT saying he was shot by Russians? I am not seeing it.

The NY Times has said he was shot at a Ukrainian (not Russian) checkpoint and that the press badge he was carrying was from 7 years ago.

The dreaded, untrustworthy MSM strikes again.

Unless it agrees with my pro-Russia talking points.

Then it's a neutral and reliable source.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/13/obituaries/brent-renaud-dead.html

Capt. Oleksandr Bogai, the deputy chief of police in Irpin, said Mr. Renaud was shot in the head when Russian forces fired at his car, which was being driven by a local civilian across a Ukrainian checkpoint near the northern border of Irpin.

so he was shot by “Russians” at a Ukrainian checkpoint.

so he was shot by “Russians” at a Ukrainian checkpoint.

Thank you for correcting/clarifying. That is what I had seen too.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

ao what he was really doing (no valid press pass) and who really shot him appears quite unclear.

regardless, the loss of life is terrible. At least let the truth of it be known, whatever it is.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

so he was shot by “Russians” at a Ukrainian checkpoint.

To be clear, you said that the NYT said he was shot by Ukranians, and said that was a legitimate source. Then, when you gave the real quote, it said he was shot by Russians, but now the exact same source is untrustworthy?

Have I got that right?

ao what he was really doing (no valid press pass) and who really shot him appears quite unclear.

It isn't unclear. It's in the source you cited. But you lied about what it said at first, and then cast doubt on the same source that you pointed to as proof he was killed by Ukranians. Now you're saying "i dunno man who even knows what truth is".

You need to up your game.

The NY Times has said he was shot at a Ukrainian (not Russian) checkpoint

AT a Ukrainian checkpoint. Not AT a Russian checkpoint.

reading is fundamental.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

I don’t understand the lack of reading comprehension and willingness to immediately accept anything Ukrainian officials say.

shot by “Russians” AT a Ukrainian checkpoint? Why would “Russians” be there at a Ukrainian checkpoint?

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

so he was shot by “Russians” at a Ukrainian checkpoint.

What are you implying with the quotation marks, then?

0 ( +8 / -8 )

That I doubt that “Russians” would be manning a Ukrainian checkpoint.

obviously.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

So who did shoot him, according to your source?

0 ( +8 / -8 )

shot by “Russians” AT a Ukrainian checkpoint? Why would “Russians” be there at a Ukrainian checkpoint?

Why would Ukranians shoot someone making a documentary sympathetic to their cause?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

It’s called an “accident”.

im not here all day to explain all this to you.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

It’s called an “accident”.

im not here all day to explain all this to you.

What is your evidence that, given that has been reported, by a survivor, that Russian forces were the shooters, that the Ukranians made an accident?

"I just feel that's the case" isn't evidence, by the way.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Yep that’s super helpful. Or not.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Well let’s start with why he has a NY Times press pass bur is not there as part of any press. What’s that mean?

they responded super quick that he didn’t belong to them. Why?

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Well let’s start with why he has a NY Times press pass bur is not there as part of any press. What’s that mean?

I don't know. Why does this mean that it was definitely Ukranian forces that shot at them?

1 ( +8 / -7 )

No it’s factual. The NY Times said the press credentials are invalid since being issued in 2015 for something else.

fact.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

No it’s factual. The NY Times said the press credentials are invalid since being issued in 2015 for something else.

Does the Ukranian military consider this an execution-worthy offense?

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Yes I could see how falsified ID at a Ukrainian held checkpoint in a war zone could be seen as problematic, yes. Even more so by the neo nazi elements of that military.

others were in the car and survived. They will tell us what happened (maybe).

Yes I could see how falsified ID at a Ukrainian held checkpoint in a war zone could be seen as problematic, yes. Even more so by the neo nazi elements of that military.

I'm not asking what you can see. I'm asking if an expired press pass is considered an execution offense by the Ukranian military. Do you know?

Because that seems to be your main argument that he was killed by Ukranian forces. As opposed to Russian forces, which a survivor and the US State Department confirmed.

And before you say, "urgh, State Department? Propaganda", remember that the State Department warned of a Russian invasion for weeks and you dismissed it as lies.

Also from the article-

[ In a 2013 interview with Filmmaker magazine, Brent Renaud described facing violence for the sake of his work — repeatedly being attacked by thugs while reporting on a crackdown against the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, for instance, and drawing fire from soldiers in Cambodia when the car he was riding in crashed through a military checkpoint. ]

Love this man. Googled his life. He is somebody I respect.

It seems highly probably he was killed by Far right Ukrainian Nationalists. This will be bad news. The other journalist in the car can’t comment, and there was another car with journalists nearby who also can’t comment because of political pressure.

don’t give weapons to rednecks is my judgement, but time will tell, but in propaganda wars, the truth won’t come out.

all, I ask, is watch his life on the internet. Yesterday I cried for somebody I never met. Will never meet.

7 years isnt "expired". its an intentional falsification of one's status. in a war zone. not smart.

but dont deserve to die over it no. It was a Ukranian checkpoint. I didnt say Ukranians killed him, but would be most likely outcome at a...Ukranian checkpoint, manned by Ukranians.

So lets wait and see, 48 hours rule.

Even the original headlines of "journalist" have been changed to "filmmaker", same as this article.

It’s just not the place to be if unqualified. An active combat zone is the workplace for skilled and heavily armed soldiers and no one else. You all wouldn’t try to enter a nuclear power plant , a military base or the sumo wrestler’s stage during a bout and happily walking around there without the related consequences, or would you? No, if you are not the employee, the personnel or the player or referee you wouldn’t be allowed entry and you wouldn’t go there.
