She is a great fighter against climate change...

Whether conservative dinosaurs losers like it or not..

These climate activists talk a big game but never step foot in the country that is the biggest polluter, why?

6 ( +14 / -8 )

Nobody knows how temporary the energy difficulties are going to last for Germany, so with the agreement which they had in place for mining for just 7 more years at Leutzerath, following which the village would be fully restored and 'naturalised', then it seems a just about acceptable arrangement.

If Greta and her followers really want to go after the massive polluters, I'd be the first to applaud their efforts once they arrive in China where 20 to 30 new coal-mines are currently in the process of being opened and exploited for the next 27 years....... it would be interesting to see how successful they are against the real polluting enemy. Somehow I can't see this on her agenda anytime soon.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Is this even news?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Those first two photos just look posed.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

...ok and who really cares?

she needs proper medical care instead...

Couldn't have happened to a better person. Lock up that privileged troublemaker.

The woman is a headache, the last thing Germany needs, bounce her back to Sweden.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Blah, blah, blah.

Sweden is an EU country.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

What a joke!

Germany will shut coal, Canada blocks new oil, new mining, the rest of Europe and the western world and this clueless girl fall for it all.

Then everything is shifted to China, Africa where they will burn coal and oil without the cleaner systems being used in the west.

Results: even higher amount of pollution.

Now if she really believes in her cause.

I say go to China, go to Africa, protect the coal and mining, cobalt and lithium mining and refining that creates more pollution and greenhouse gas than any developed country would.

But no safe places only

Her stunts are getting old.

She took a boat across to the USA because she won't fly.

But her family, her handlers, all flew, then on top of that the crew that sailed her boat flew back to Europe while another fresh crew flew to the USA to sail her back to Europe.

Resulting in far more carbon footprint than if she just flew.

They say she is on the autistic spectrum, her parents used this to create her, this in my view as a person with ASD and a daughter with ASD is a from of abuse.

ASD often comes with certain paranoia and or anxieties including OCD playing into those fears you can create a full on zealot in certain things,

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

just giving her more "street cred" by doing this in front of the cameras.

Sweden is an EU country.

Yes, but still Germany is still a sovereign nation, so just send her back, and when she comes back, continue doing this and if necessary, lock her up, such an annoying kid.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

EU gives freedom of movement unless a convicted criminal

lock her up, such an annoying kid.

Thunberg is now an adult.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

So many big men feel threatened by this young woman.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Saw a fantastic video on Twitter of the police getting stuck in the mud and then struggling to get themselves unstuck.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

EU gives freedom of movement unless a convicted criminal

Well, with any luck if she continues to do this, that could happen down the road.

Thunberg is now an adult.

Thank God, now it makes it a lot easier to prosecute this woman.

So many big men feel threatened by this young woman.

No, she's just a big-mouth annoying young woman. She won't change a darn thing. She should focus on her studies and get a job....maybe the UN?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

A big guy who practices martial arts is so threatened by a protestor. Guess that is why you need guns and knives.

Thunberg changes many things by involving school children across the world to wake up to the environmental damage being done. They are the future generation that will inherit the problems.

That was very positive.

So do Republicans not believe in personal freedoms and the right to decide about their own lives?

Get a job?

Greta Thunberg gives €1m award money to climate groups

How much do you give for your children's future?

This one paragraph alone indicates why the German Government have been left with little choice other that to fall back on open coal pit mining.

The German government reached a deal with energy company RWE last year allowing it to destroy the village in return for ending coal use by 2030, rather than 2038. Both argue the coal is needed to ensure Germany’s energy security that's squeezed by the cut in supply of Russian gas due to the war in Ukraine.

I am a little irritated that activists pick the easy targets, and refuse to demonstrate in countries where Governments are global top polluters. China, India???

Or Russia, where the invasion of Ukraine and war is responsible for the situation in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The celebrity activists are by far the most self-righteous self-serving virtue signalling hypocrites.

It is difficult to have a pop at Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Greta breath taking naivety is expected under the circumstances. Greta is genuinely unable or unwilling to research, educate, update her platform.

What do you mean? Greta went to the US in 2019.

Coal is in plentiful supply from Poland right next door. Nuclear electricity is in plentiful supply from France right next door.

France is planning on shutting down NPPs because renewables have become cheaper.

Germany generates 35% of its power from renewables. Set to increase to 45%.

Asking environmentalists to go and protest in a country like China has little concern for human lives.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It was Merkel who created the current energy crisis, not Thunberg.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The UK's most famous environmentalist, Sir David Attenborough made an excellent interview with Thunberg.

"David Attenborough describes what Greta Thunberg has done as “astonishing and admirable” in getting people to face up to the climate crisis. “She's achieved things that many of us who have been working on it for 20-odd years have failed to achieve,” he says."

Well, he is entitled to his opinion, no harm or foul. I just vehemently disagree.

Greta Thunberg is capable of making her own decisions about her life.

Evidently not, look at the photo. Lol

I'm pretty sure that's the outcome she wanted. So, yeah, she can make her own decisions.

I am, I just think the woman is annoying as hell, the worst.

That's good. She needs to be.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Thunberg was just one of the hundreds of protestors.

Germany’s energy security that's squeezed by the cut in supply of Russian gas due to the ...

sanctions they chose to impose on Russia.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Funny the short term memory of some!

Why do we use plastic bags?

Well remember the 1980s the environmentalists, the "papper bags are causing deforestation".

So everyone especially the environmentalists moved to plastic bags, oops mistake.

Why have so many countries closed their nuclear power plants?

Cheap oil?

No no no, remember the protests by these same environmentalists against nuclear energy, remember blocking roads, trains, etc... because nuclear fuel was being transported?

Forgot those things.

The same tactics that got us in to the plastic bags mess, the same tactics that shut down nuclear by the same groups that now say back to paper and nuclear are now blocking in a knee-jerk reaction stuff best left to people with a brain.

They want to help, then accept cleaner coal, oil, mining, manufacturing in developed countries instead of shutting it all down and buy from countries that have poor or no environmental protection.

Stop promoting power from solar which requires panels made in these countries with few environmental rules and then require battery storage that also uses lithium, cobalt, nickel all mined and refined in countries using far more polluting coal powered generation.

Increase wind, cleaner coal, gas nuclear hydro and put money into wave power research.

But no because Greta and company will get arrested in China, Africa, etc.. and they will throw away the key.

Because it is far more difficult to give up their home comforts at low prices than to push for home manufacturing cutting out the more polluting countries like China etc..

No go attack Germany where coal plants are strictly controlled and let China, India etc.. expand unchecked.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The right to protest is an important one. Many fought a war to keep Europe free. The costs in human lives were enormous.

The right to protest is an important one. Many fought a war to keep Europe free. The costs in human lives were enormous.

Do you truly believe that is the reason they fought?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

By the end of last year, Germany had decided to end three NPPs and burn more coal instead. Keep the NPPs until the energy crisis is resolved

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Seems the people who crow most about “right to protest” are actually the ones first to condemn it.

She has far more guts and integrity than the flipfloppers.

'People are listening', Greta meets Sir David - BBC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Cw2ASwSnU

David Attenborough is an incorrigible idealist. Both Greta and David Attenborough in many respects slot together like a jigsaw puzzle.

The reality in the here and now, for the majority of families is the need for affordable energy. Food to feed their loved ones young and old.

I am afraid that Greta and David Attenborough words alone, that our own sacrifices to climate change targets will  change the Government of China/India polluting is dangerous wishful thinking.

In the case of the Government of China, the collapse of western nations economies at the alter of climate change is a goal worth pushing.

The most imminent threat to our planet is war

How much power does Germany generate from wind?

In 2021, 60,000 MW. 113.9 terawatt hours.

Still behind China which generates 328,973 MW from wind turbines. They are manufacturing the world's largest offshore turbines, 18 MW with 150-meter-long blades.

The main cost of offshore wind turbines is the anchoring to the seabed. More turbines more cost. Bigger turbines less cost.

These climate activists talk a big game but never step foot in the country that is the biggest polluter, why?

Do you even for a second imagine Ms. Thunberg would be granted a visa to visit China? Get real.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The wind capacity for the EU is 200,000 MW, not too far behind China.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I am a little irritated that activists pick the easy targets, and refuse to demonstrate in countries where Governments are global top polluters. China, India???

Climate activists are not able to get visas to go to authoritarian nations like India or especially China. India frequently arrests and imprisons their own native born environmental activists. They are not about to hand Ms. Thunberg a visa to come to India or China to protest.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

By the end of last year, Germany had decided to end three NPPs and burn more coal instead. Keep the NPPs until the energy crisis is resolved

Germany decided to keep at least two of those NPPs operating indefinitely into the future because of the current situation.

She has far more guts and integrity than the flipfloppers

Being a political nuisance isn’t showing any integrity whatsoever, more of a big political headache, or nightmare if you want to put it that way

But now we are told nuclear was being shut down because cheap coal and oil???

Notice the pictures in these articles do they look familiar?

Yes they are exactly the same as we are seeing in today's article.

As with paper bags and nuclear the environmentalists are shortsighted the same for EV now movement.

We don't have the electrical grid or sufficient electric power to run all EV society but do it anyway we will figure out solutions later?

Now when has that actually worked?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

In the UK on most days, it does not burn any coal for power generation.

Germany sells electricity to France which also generates 70% of its power from nuclear energy.

Overuse of numerous links is unnecessary and quite frankly unreadable, Google has gone mad!

The France government has made the decision to nationalise the power industry again and reduce the number of NPPs because renewables are cheaper.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

So much hate just for one small woman. What influence she has?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

These activists could obtain travel permits for both China and India, all would be under close supervision throughout their visit. All would need to lobby there governments to make it happen.

They certainly would not be able to protest. However there very presence would inspire.

Activists are reluctant to even criticize the government of China in the safety of their own countries for fear of cyber acts, or the threat of blanket acts of bullying on social media. Greta Thunberg has been subject to fat shaming on chinese social media.

She's happy': Greta Thunberg's father says climate activism helped her beat depression

Greta is not ultimately mentally able to withstand the cynicism, and outright nastiness, the underling politicisation of climate change.
