Firearms are the same as a killer robot. They can remotely kill someone. Same for grenades, ship and submarine launched weapons, ICBMs, cruise missiles from aircraft, mines either on land or sea, basically anything that isn't a knife.
I think these "activists" missed all the prior art in this realm.
War isn't about playing fair. It is about misdirection, lying, and trying to kill the other guy before he touches you or your stuff. If you are making war without those techniques, then you are doing it wrong.
Killer robots engaged aren't any different than a bullet that has already been fired. There isn't any heart and the decisions were made by programming long before kill-mode was enabled.

In war, adversaries will use whatever weapons, technology and means to kill and destroy the enemy. Weapons will never be abolished as war will never be abolished.
But let's say that autonomous weapons or killer robots are banned and outlawed. This means torpedoes, artillery shells, cruise missiles, ICBMs, torpedoes, etc. will resort to be manned, i.e., as kamikazes. Is this the intent of these misguided, but well-meaning activists?

If A.I. decides for themselves who to kill or not to kill, without any human intervention - what could possibly go wrong?

How is the United Nations going to ban Artificial Intelligence weaponry when it can't ban low intelligence leadership.
Anyone that knows anyone working in the defense industry will tell you: it's too late.
