Wrong news story. That was last month.

Last month a 20-year-old woman was beheaded by her husband’s family in the western province of Herat after she refused to become a prostitute, police said. Four people were arrested over the brutal killing.

This is not an "Islam" or "Muslim" issue because the people who arrested the murderers are Muslim. This is a case of a country's government trying to enter the 20th century (nevermind the 21st century) and the regional "tribal elders" are resisting the change with every bone in their body. To them, women are property just like cattle and have just as many rights as cattle. To give women the same status as the men would reduce the power the men have in the tribe.

This is not an "Islam" or "Muslim" issue.

Aside from the fact that you're just wrong in implying that those cases don't exist, you should also realize that media is selective based on what sells. And besides, how many murders happen in the US all the time? Most of Americans supposedly identify as Christian. The reason you don't hear about "Christians" committing murders like this is because news outlets (and the readers etc) DON'T THINK IT'S IMPORTANT. In fact, if news sites always pointed out "This murderer is a Christian" then Christians might feel persecuted, even though the news sites are technically just reporting the facts. But news outlets avoid things like this for just this reason.

You're making a gross generalization there. When do you ever hear about murders committed in the name of Christianity? Afghan woman are being murdered and abused because they dared to defy traditional customs or whatever rules the Taliban deem to be tradition. This is clearly not the case in the US.

Whatever their motivation this lot is definately of the backwards thinking scum that are messing up Afghanistan for the people who want a civil society. It's this kind of stuff that keeps Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other places poor hellholes of countries. It's tragic. But how long do you have to keep the US military in to give them time to grow up? That's becoming the problem.

You mean women killed because they've rejected someone, or try to no longer associate with someone? It happens all the time. Most places call them "stalker killings" and it happens quite often by members of religions other than Islam. Your "case" lacks any substance, counselor.

Those killings are not done under the guise of religion or customs. Yes, occasionally someone goes nuts and kills people, saying 'God told me to'. But these are rare cases. The above article suggests the abuse of woman is very common over there (87%)

My point is this: If those guys had been doing what was allowed by Islamic law, they wouldn't have been arrested in Afghanistan. Even though the Taliban is no longer in power, Afghanistan still adheres to a form "sharia law".

As soon as U.S. and NATO forces leave, the civil war will begin. The country will be divided into many groups exercising control with each of them with its own government. These people will not change, they are the same bandits. Everything here, when the U.S. leave, will be looted.

People are not property. This includes women, whether you give birth to them, marry them, or otherwise. When this is universally recognized, the world will be a better, more prosperous place.

Looks like if you're a woman in Afghanistan, you're damned if you do & damned if you don't.... In this article there's mention of a 16 y.o. who was flogged for having an affair & of a 20 y.o. who was beheaded for NOT becoming a prostitute (disobeying her husband's order).

No mention of what happened to the girl whose throat ws slit. I imagine she died, but it's not always fatal (unlike beheading).
