The U.N.’s top envoy for Afghanistan urged the international community on Tuesday to do everything possible to push the Taliban and the government from the battlefield back to the negotiating table, warning that “inertia” and the lack of action might lead to more years of bloodshed and conflict.

Empty words with no NATO troops in the country to keep the Taliban from imposing a harsh Islamic caliphate again. One would think the west and particularly the US would have learned from the tragic consequences of the last time the US abandoned the Afghans to the tender mercies of the Pakistan ISI and their attack dogs the Taliban. Now we get to repeat history again and expect another blood soak tragedy tracible to the Taliban in the near future.
