The poor people were given schools, books, and encouraged to provide equal opportunity for their daughters.

They responded by burning down those schools.

Over 1,000 destroyed.

When you support a girl, you support her family, village, city, province, and a country. But the men of Afghanistan don't think girls should know how to read.

I don't see how the USA can possibly help a country that won't help themselves.

Agreed Fu. Seems folks have forgotten that Afghanistan under the Taliban had many terrorist training camps that they didn't do anything about so they could spread it around the world. But hey, what do we know.

Also the biggest reason that the Taliban has taken so much territory back is because the Afghani government is corrupt as usual. The US has tried to train the Afghani's to have a stable and responsible military. Afghani soldiers want to go back to the way things were... hence the internal attacks right?  Taliban is corrupt in it's ideology, and the Afghani government is corrupt in it's greed.

They want to live in a hell hole of their own making? I say let them, but make sure they can't get out. The women are going to suffer the most... unless they take up arms against the sick system. I just had an idea. Stop training the idiot men, and start training the women to protect themselves. I'm pretty sure things will change really quickly if they're the ones who are empowered.

Educate the women, help them become literate, learn to protect not just themselves but their families and those they care for. It's obvious that strong, intelligent women scare Islamic fundamentalists like the Taliban. Why else do they destroy the schools? It's the exact same situation during the southern US in the days of slavery. Keep them ignorant, and uneducated... and under control... you get the similarities.

Where are the Afghan men?

They should have defend their country if they don't want Taliban ruling the the country rather than leaving their own country and blaming other. It's unfair for the US and allies troops to defend Afghanistan for them. Some of Afghan soldiers and Police cannot trust because they are belonging to Taliban and Al Qaida and trying to infiltrate Afghan security force.

Western style democracy will never work and they do not accept in Islamic country like Afghanistan.

When the Taliban were in power, the country finally had peace and security, and opium was banned. Then bush's bosses Cheney, rumsfield and Bolton wanted the oil pipeline and rare metals...

"When the Taliban were in power, the country finally had peace and security, and opium was banned"

Unfortunately the opium trade continued anyway, girls were banned from receiving an education and everyone was banned from flying kites. And they were harboring Bin Laden.

... if you were a man who agreed to follow their dictates. Everyone else lived in fear, especially women. We should never support a system that holds down over 50% of the people.
