While I disagree with posters who yesterday were claiming what Korea did early on in this meant nothing, I DO think that all the congratulating may have led to a certain level of complacency. At least we know they will not hesitate to tighten things down quickly, unlike certain neighbours.

Cold winter + complacency = resurgence.

This makes me feel very, very old. I can remember when foreign journalists and those writing comments here and in other venues were saying that Korea had nailed COVID-19 by doing everything right that bungling Japan had done wrong.

If Korea was an early success, what was Japan? Seems the Japanese government just crossed its fingers hoping masks and sending kids home from school would do the trick. Still no testing unless you're gravely ill it seems.

Sure wish this would end soon so I can get back over to Korea to art some excellent Yakiniku

Such a sensational headline. I’m getting oh so tired of this daily individual nation reporting.

You know the solution.

Regarding to this pandemic topic no country at all really can afford to point with the finger to others. The overall global reaction has been and still is a giant erratic ‘answer’, costing hundreds of thousands of lives. Nothing really has been learned or changed to better for one year now. A shame for everyone involved! Not even a single working strategy exists after all that months. Unbelievable...

Korea sleepwalking? Fair criticism perhaps, but doesn't that apply to Japan and the U.S.A. and most countries around the world?

It seems that this planet is run by puffed up politicians who are more concerned with holding on to their position and escaping punishment than fulfilling their job description, i.e. REPRESENTING THEIR PEOPLE.

Oh wait. Don't tell me the Korea supporters are backing down.

Their perfect Korea was doing so well. Bragging 24/7 how perfect they handle the Virus.

Dozens and dozens of articles written by Koreans or their supporters glorifying the S. Korean government as the ultimate answer and solution to Covid19.

Wow. Japanese hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

Hear hear! And they are still at it now. By any measure the South Korean government is failing in their response. However, these people continue to excuse it while condemning Japan for the same thing.
