Raising the age is something I could get behind, but I'd do it for vaping stuff too. Testing of the compounds in vape pipes have shown far too many non-good chemicals and even heavy metals. Best to avoid vaping completely.

We've known for many decades that smoking is habit forming, addictive and terrible for otherwise healthy people when performed at the levels most cigarette smokers hit. If people smoked 1-2 cigarettes a day, that's vastly different from 1-2 packs of cigarettes a day, but it seems few people can control their tobacco use to purely social levels, likely because the tobacco makers worked hard to increase the addictive aspects of their products.

Another alternative would be to cap the amount of tar and nicotine allowed in a cigarette and pack of tobacco and also limit the number of cartoons that can be purchased in any 7 day period. Let people continue to smoke, but reduce access and the addictive aspects. Slowly removing nicotine from cigarettes year after year could be an alternative way to ween people from nicotine. Perhaps.

This idea is illiberal and should be opposed.

Just as we should legalize marijuana and similar victimless crimes, we should not move backwards on tobacco.

This is not acceptable in a free society!
