It was not western officials claiming anything. This would not have been enough for the IAEA. As I wrote before, the head of the IAEA, Mohamed ElBaradei, said Iran was required to inform them the day they decided to construct the facility. As such Iran was not in compliance with the IAEA.

Israel, which has nuclear weapons

You have any proof?

Helter, Yes I saw that quote about western officials claiming Iran had made certain agreements. I believe that is not the way Iran views it, and these alleged agreements are not related to the NPT.

The NPT has certain requirements, but it also provides certain rights and benefits, which Iran was not allowed to get when it was complying with the NPT obligations.

It is very clear that the west is only interested in regime change, they are using the nuclear nonissue as an excuse, just as they used the alleged Iraqi WMDs as an excuse to get rid of Saddam.

And during this time, the west continues to give massive financial and military aid to Israel, which has nuclear weapons, did not join the NPT and does not allow inspections, and commits countless war crimes. These facts make all aid from the US completely illegal, according to American law.

sabi: Iran disclosed it long before they were required to, there is no reason why they needed to disclose it any sooner.

Wrong yet again:

But western officials point out that at the time this enrichment plant appears to have been started, in 2006, Iran had an agreed obligation to notify the IAEA as soon as construction began on any new nuclear facility.

Iran's system also has its flaws. Some of which President Ahmadinejad has tried to fix. However, the old system is quite entrenched and change does not come easily.

I can't see how the 'future is Iran's' any more than any other nation.

Well, we see that nations that adopted a debt-based monetary system are going down fast. Iran does not have such a system.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At the time, the head of the IAEA said Iran's disclosure was late. As I wrote before, I prefer to believe the IAEA.

I can't see how the 'future is Iran's' any more than any other nation. I can't see why it should be either, at least not until they get rid of the fatwa on still on Rushdie.

British, French, and US intelligence knew about the secret uranium enrichment facility long before Iran "disclosed" it.

This is not difficult to understand. Iran disclosed it long before they were required to, there is no reason why they needed to disclose it any sooner.

But why did the three stooges (Obama, Sarko, and Brown) wait till after the Iranian disclosure to make their big show?

Anyway, coming back to the story, I agree that the future is Iran's. The future belongs to those countries that avoid the debt-based money supply; the US and Europe are going down, fast.

You shouldn't believe everything you hear.

I prefer to believe the IAEA, thank you.

The sanctions against Iran were supported by the IAEA. Iran joined and as a member they are expected to comply. By rejecting qualified inspectors they are not complying.

It was an IAEA secret report that was recently released. I am sorry I cannot make the language any simpler than that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It wasn't "discovered", Iran announced it to the IAEA.

British, French, and US intelligence knew about the secret uranium enrichment facility long before Iran "disclosed" it:

"the Iranians appear to have become aware that the Qom secret was out and pre-empted the inevitable disclosure by admitting it in a letter to the IAEA's director general"

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/25/iran-nuclear-uranium-enrichment-intelligence

Lies and deceit are what Iran and its supporters run on.

Iran announced the secret plant when they found out it had been discovered by western countries, not before.

You shouldn't believe everything you hear. Iran announced it long before they were required to; that is the only thing we know for sure. Saying that they did so just because the west had discovered it is just BS; why didn't the western countries announce it?

Iran has refused inspectors from security council countries.

Could this have anything to do with the sanctions they unjustly imposed on Iran?

A recently released IAEA secret report....

A released secret report?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A recently released IAEA secret report indicates that Iran has discussed developing and been working on nuclear weapons.

Iran has refused inspectors from security council countries.

Iran announced the secret plant when they found out it had been discovered by western countries, not before.

An entire secret nuclear enrichment facility was discovered hidden in a mountain, which the IAEA knew noting about. So much for complying.

It wasn't "discovered", Iran announced it to the IAEA.

It wasn't a facility, it was a hole in the ground, they had barely started building the facility. Iran announced its planned facility long before they needed to. The three stooges (Obama, Sarko, and Brown) tried to make a deal out of it, but failed miserably.

So yes, they have complied. Israel on the other hand...

Of course any government leader should have the confidence/cojones to say the future belongs to their country.

It's then up to the rest of the world to then disagree. A nice yin/yang universe we live in.

sabi: They have complied and even went beyond the treaty's requirements

An entire secret nuclear enrichment facility was discovered hidden in a mountain, which the IAEA knew noting about. So much for complying.

sabi: little nuclear-armed group of terrorists that has been committing countless war crimes for over six decades.

It's Israel that has been terrorized by its Islamic neighbors for over six decades, just like every other country in the world that has the misfortune of sharing a border with an Islamic country. Israel did the world a favor by taking out Iraq's nuclear facility in 1981; hopefully they'll do the world another favor and take out Iran's.

Elbudamexicano: Even the Russians and Chinese do not want to see Iran with nuclear weapons

Not to mention Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Muslim countries. They'd like nothing more than to have Iran's nuclear facilities destroyed.

I met some beautiful Iranian women, actually one out of three was beautiful at Shibuya the other day. I asked here about Iran's future. She said, "I wish the USA would attack my country." Why? I asked somewhat surprised. "Because then we could get rid of these old xxx keeping democracy stifled in our country. We want freedom!" hmmmmm, in my opinion.

It is easy to say that every cotton pickin country on the face of the earth has a right to do what ever the heck they want, example, backwards middle east nation with oil run by a few religious goons (Iran) but the goons in Teheran must understand that they are still small time, small time means do not get to proud and make problems because your big daddy (USA) will then unleash their rot wailer (Israel) if push comes to shove. Even the Russians and Chinese do not want to see Iran with nuclear weapons, no matter how much they say that their uranium is only for peaceful means, yeah right, just like they they peacefully mowed down, tortured, killed off so many young democracy loving Iranian university students in the last national Iranian elections??

“In Iran I think nobody loses their job because of making a statement that reflects their opinion. From this point of view, conditions in Iran are far better than in many other places in the world.”

Uh, say again? In Iran you might not be terminated from your job for speaking your opinion but you are probably tossed in prison and terminated there. I suppose there is a subtle difference in syntax but the outcome is certainly the loss of your job - and a lot more.

A pity that the US can't bar Ahmadinejad from the country but, as a head of state, no matter how pathetic that state is, he is allowed to visit the UN. One of life's cruel ironies. The man who takes the freedom from his own countrymen is allowed the freedom to travel by the UN.

sabiwabi:

" They have complied and even went beyond the treaty's requirements; and they got sanctions. "

Iran has not complied with anything, and is continuing to develop nuclear weapons while claiming not to. But lying to unbelievers is quite OK in islamic doctrine (taqqiva), as you surely know.

semperfi:

" The Majority of Iranians living in Iran agree with you !!!! "

No, they don´t. The majority of the educated elite who blogs on the internet, send cellphone messages, and talks to Western journalists, sure.

But the uneducated masses get their information/indoctrination weekly at eh mosque, and will invariably proceed to vote themselves to more islam.

This is the same patter that repeats itself all over the world. Don´t be fooled by the selective pictures you see on TV.

MisterCreosote:

" How can the future belong to a nation run by a bunch theocrats living in the past, in the 8th century? "

Simple answer: demographics, a powerful ideology, and a refusal by the modern world to understand the nature of the problem.

Of course, we are not talking about the "nation" of Iran, we are talking about the nation of islam (the world-wide ummah). Iran is just as irrelevant as any other nation state.

I am a bit puzzled is perhaps a better way to describe my opinions. On one end I do see the huge bias here. UN and US does not demand Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty yet when Iran wants to produce uranium, the UN will then apply economic sanctions while Israel will yell hysterically at Iran and also threaten them at the same time and try to trigger a conflict. On the other end, I do not think we need more nukes in the world and letting a new country get them would not be a positive step. Ahmadinejad also has a big mouth which does not make things better. All in all, it's bad vibes coming from everyone and I can't agree with either US, UN, Israel or Iran.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Iran is also bound by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Since they have signed this treaty they must comply with the rules of this treaty.

They have complied and even went beyond the treaty's requirements; and they got sanctions. Israel never joined and does not allow inspections, and they get massive financial and military aid; American laws make any aid to such a "country" illegal.

Obama says different things from Bush, and he can complete his sentences, but deep down he isn't much different.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

neogreenjapan are you saying you'd flip-flop on your opinion just based on who is the President of the United States? That is really wrong. I'm sorry to hear that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

When Bush was president of USA, I thought Iran had every right to protect themselves with nuclear weapons but now with Obama as president who proclaims his vision of a nuclear free world, I think the world should do what it can to stop Iran from having nuclear weapons. I see the argument that since US, Israel, China etc have nuclear weapons, Iran also have the right. But these countries got their nukes in a different time and age than the times we are living in now. Countries are working to reduce nuclear weapons not to increase them. Iran is also bound by the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Since they have signed this treaty they must comply with the rules of this treaty.

In a better world, Iran would get a more liberal government but Iran is a democracy and is much more democratic than a lot of the countries in that area. So it becomes hypocritical of USA to demand democracy or human rights and at the same time support ruthless dictators. If countries can prevent Iran from getting nukes or agree to stop making nukes, then at the same time pressure Israel about their nukes, things would be going in the right direction.

The problem today in the world political stage is that countries say. Do as we tell you and not do.

North Korea?

The way the West is caving in to islamic supremacy today,...

Yeah, they are controlling our money supply, (mis)information, courts, politicians, ....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The way the West is caving in to islamic supremacy today, sadly it seems Ahmedinejad is correct.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ahmadinejad though he has potential to be a great leader is not, not because of what US and Israel say, sane people know that these countries should not be trusted as the history of these countries speak for itself, however, Iran got to do more to improve its humanitarian record in order to get recognized by others. I fully support Ahmadinejad in supporting Hezbollah. I don't think US with it's billion $ aid to Israel has any moral right to say what so ever to Ahmadinejad.

Time to cut off the head of the snake.

Very true, but the snake is not Iran. The snake is a little nuclear-armed group of terrorists that has been committing countless war crimes for over six decades.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If the sanctions are ineffective, then it's time to do something else. Obviously Iran has no desire to cooperate with the rest of the world. Time to cut off the head of the snake.

How can the future belong to a nation run by a bunch theocrats living in the past, in the 8th century?

Seeing how the humankind is rapidly retrogressing back to the Dark Ages, it makes perfect sense.

Seeing as the editorial policy of this site seems to be skewed towards the view that the Iranian election was likely rigged, let me provide a link to the American University of Maryland's public policy program's research group, World Public Opinion, and their analysis.

Ahmadinejad is a dangerous nut case.

If you object to his coming, Sarge, you will have to find a way to kick the UN General Assembly out of New York City. PS: Jesse Helms tried for 30 years without success.
