She briefly called a friend but was cut short when her phone's battery died.

Call 911 or Air Canada or the airport, you idiot.

I'm afraid I'd have rummaged in the overheads for extra blankets and gone back to sleep.

Hard to imagine rummaging around a cockpit with no light! Yikes!

She should have deployed the emergency slide and walk away like a boss.

15 metre drop? It wasn't an A380, but a Bombardier!

Quite a few news sites in Canada are raising the suspicion flag on this. Sounds a lot like she hid and is probably trying to get money out of this whole deal. A Quebec to Toronto flight is like 1.5 hours.

She could have turned the plane engines on and powered her phone to call for help...as commercial jets don't actually require keys to start up.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

she fell asleep, aided by the fact that she'd ended up with a whole row of seats to herself.

That's it, I'm going to start flying Air Canada! Every time I fly United, Delta or American, every seat next to mine is taken!

She briefly called a friend but was cut short when her phone's battery died.

Can you imagine! Her phone battery died! Unbelievable!

"He is in shock, asking how the heck they left me on the plane,"

Hey, she was tired, they wanted to let her sleep!

Back in the day, when they left the drink cart at the rear of the plane (pineapple juice!), I awoke to find the plane totally evacuated and the cleaning crew ascending. I learned that if you're an idiot, nó one will help you.

she hasn't had much sleep since and is struggling with night terrors

Oh, I bet. No good lawsuit would be without those.

I'm skeptical. It's entirely possible that she hid aboard the plane and set this whole thing up.

Planes are not cleaned?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Not a lot of sympathy from here for her, but then we do not know the full story. Who could sleep through all of that without being drunk or under heavy sedation? Will she be suing for stubbing her toe, etc.?

Sounds like the movie 'Langoliers'.

Where do you hide on a plane?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Colour me skeptical too. I can&t imagine the flight attendants would leave her in the "asleep position" stretched out horizontally during the landing process. They always make sure everyone is buckled in and the seats are upright.

Sounds like the movie 'Langoliers'.

Har!

It’s possible. Cleaners - if there were any - might have decided to leave her there. Sound incredible?

In 1976 I woke up alone on an Italian train left in a train yard halfway between Naples and Brindisi. No cell phone, no 15-meter drop, no problem. I got out and walked back to a station.

Weird feeling though. But, what more can I say ... (Italian sized shoulder shrug).

Planes are not cleaned?

Why would a plane need cleaning?? ;-)

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

i guarantee i would have tried to fly that plane.

My first thought.

I am sure some free travel vouchers will cure her trauma.

she hasn't had much sleep since and is struggling with night terrors.

I didn't question the story at all until I came to that line. Sure sounds like she wants money. Night terrors... poor thing.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

No way they would just leave her there. Nice try though, lady!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The captain is supposed to be the last person off the plane and is supposed to check before they leave.

Many years ago, I also woke up alone being locked away in a last train in the station yard, I mean, the last train for the station in the daytime. I was completely trapped, no mobile-phone. But after a while the train moved back as the first train of the day to the station I had failed to get off. Very embarrassing episode. :‑( & :‑)

Sounds like a scam in the making to me.

"And if they had been a terrorist?" -- Are they trained to spontaneously combust? Could she fashion a shank out of piece of chair metal and hijack an empty plane? Probably the only terrorists who could fly such a plane and would, died in 2001 after training specifically to fly such planes. Can we let this 20 year old paranoia die now please? Its like refusing to board a dirigible because of the Hindenburg.

Just another over-dramatic attention-seeker.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I work for an airline and this just couldn’t conceivably happen as everyone needs to be upright for takeoff/landing and the flight attendants just wouldn’t leave her asleep out of politeness. Plus, aircraft are cleaned in between flights and mechanics would be on board when towed to the hangar and they’d notice a sleeper still onboard plus the flight crew can’t leave the aircraft until all passengers have deplaned. My professional opinion is this lady’s story is pure fiction. My question is, they have torches in the cockpit? They wouldn’t have flammable items onboard, they would, however, have flashlights.

faced a drop of up to 15 meters to get out of the plane.

Impossible.

Oh, right . . . up to 15 meters. Could have been 3 or 4.

Sorry. No sympathy for this woman.

struggling with night terrors.

Struggling with night terrors seems a bit extreme, Tiffani. You weren't kidnapped, you were locked in a plane for a few hours, and most of that time you were asleep. At worst, someone would have found you early the next morning when they prepped the plane for the first flight of the day. If this is the worst thing that ever happens to you in your lifetime, you'll have lived a charmed life. However, based on your emoji and exclamation point-laden FB post, you seem to have a low tolerance for stress.

Seriously?

but she hasn't had much sleep since and is struggling with night terrors.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Reckless

I wouldn't say she was an idiot. This can be very scary and startling when you wake up in such a situation. Sounds like the flight attendants were incompetent.

Would you by any chance be interested in purchasing a bridge in Brooklyn?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Interesting story. I flew air canada to Japan once because their tickets prices were the cheapest. I wouldn't want to fly them again.

I think Air Canada's Insurers should be a bit more than concerned, about potential theft, or now Terrorist issues. Seriously right now, were I to wish to blow up a plane, I'd get a follower to do just as this Woman purportedly did, hide from disembarkation, then after everyone's gone, open up a hatch, and let a ground based colleague / bomber onboard, plant their device, and go...

This, if it really happened, is a Serious breach of Security, and Air Canada + other Airlines needs to wake up and do both an onboarding/offboarding count!!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

incidentally, the Woman should be profiled/researched for exactly this type of Terrorism probing.

Bugle Boy of Company D: "Call 911 or Air Canada or the airport, you idiot."

Not very bright, I see. She called a friend in the pitch dark and her cell phone died. She tried other measures but the plane was off and had no power. How is she supposed to call anyone or do anything when there is no power? Wow. Didn't think any of that through, did you?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Lamilly: "Scam attention seeker and money grabber."

Yeah, she willed herself to become invisible so the staff would completely miss a passenger being on the craft. Really, how dumb do you have to be to make such a statement?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Buugleboy of Company B:

Call 911 or Air Canada or the airport, you idiot.

With a dead phone? I hope you are not working in the engineering department of company B.
