She should have to pay all the other passengers for the inconvenience she caused them.

Judges in the U.S. need to start doing the same thing. The airlines in America end up having to "eat" the cost of such disruptions and that is not fair since it cost $thousand$ per hour to operate an aircraft.

Now I know the reason why last year when I took a flight to Gold Coast, the flight attendant came to me: "Sir, you've already had three beers (small cans, 5 bucks a can!), are you ok?". Pretty shocked, I could just reply "Wtf, bring me another one", which he reluctantly did. But apparently the idiots who can't hold their liquor make life hard for everybody else who quietly enjoys his/her beer and a movie on those hellish long flights

"Wtf, bring me another one"

Agreed. Some mincing air waiter or stewerdess with too much makeup shouldn't be dictating ridiculously priced beverages on boring flights.

Heck mate, I got cuzzies back in Te Awamutu who can’t sit down for breakfast (usually Weetbix and yoghurt) without punching at least 10 people in the head and converting a car. :-)

Why did the crew have to turn around and return to Melbourne? Couldn't they just have restrained the old hag and put some tape over her big mouth to keep her quiet until they got to NZ?

What did she say in reflection, I wonder?

state broken people

new zealanders have proven time and time again that they in general are not good at getting along with other nationalities.

Rather a broad, unwarranted and unfounded generalisation of a whole nation of people there dont you think. Personally l would have said drunks time and again prove that they are unable to behave on long flights and therefore drunk people and alcohol should be banned from such flights.

Well if they got handcuffs at the ready and already restrained granny, why not just continue on?

Maybe it's easier to have her arrested and judged in Australia ? Obviously she already did the same thing on Virgin a few months ago. So now she's banned from Virgin and Quantas... so next time, that will be on a boat ? Or maybe she drinks only when she has to fly, due to phobia of air travel ?

Calling her a granny makes her sound like a little old lady

She was on the way to baby-sit her grand-kids... They must be so disappointed as that's surely good fun every time their big young granny visits. Mine was not drinking but she had very bad trip with the drugs they give them in hospitals and she was either stripping, dancing around and singing loud all night, or like this lady, fighting like Jackie Chan. They never sued her as when I was going to bail her out with my Dad, we'd tell them we were both lawyers and considering suing them for giving inappropriate treatment. But she was banned from the 3 big hospitals in our city. After she had to go to the military one. That was better as they don't give anti-dolor drugs there, that's for wimps and the army has not that, so she stayed very courteous.

So, what caused her to flip her lid? She was drunk, but beyond that, what infuriated her?

I too would be intrigued to see what sparked grannies outburst. Heh, they probably refused her more incredibly over-priced scag to throw down her neck to go with her in flight "meal"...

Heh, well there's a good chance she'd pull em off with her teeth.

I hear there have been leaps and bounds in denture glue this century :)

She should be banned for life from flying on any scheduled commercial airlines. This type of black-listing will probably keep passengers from bad conduct and causing trouble.

Hey, lay off the air stewardesses mate. I'm close friends with 2. :-)

My guess is she probably decided the next day to get drunk in order to forget what happened.

Calling her a granny makes her sound like a little old lady but she's not that old & if you search for pictures of her, she's hardly a sweet little old lady. I wouldn't mess with her.

There are different types of drunks, whatever the reason is she shouldn't fly for at least awhile until she can ACT RIGHT on an airplane.

Except in the U.S. it is against the law for an airline to allow an obviously intoxicated person to even BOARD the plane. Any defense lawyer would throw this situation right back in the airline's face.

Probaby because the guy was bleeding. Cuts to the face can be pretty nasty to close up. Then there are the rules, which say land at the closest good airport.

All the flights back and forth and I've never seen anything like this. I wonder if this kind of stuff went on all the time and I've missed it?

Wow! $ 21,745 dollars. Now that was one expensive flight lesson. I wonder how she might of spent the money otherwise? Maybe on her grandkids? Live and learn...

In the future, maybe she should travel by ship since that's much more pleasant anyway.

"Rather a broad, unwarranted and unfounded generalisation of a whole nation of people there dont you think."

Would you expect anything else coming from that poster(s)?

All she wanted was some eggs cooked, "you know what she's like when she gets like that, don't be lippy".

Being cut by the All Blacks was the straw that broke the camels back.

I mean that's some serious punching for a granny.

What happens when Air Rage Granny encounters Underpants Bomber?

The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that Macaskill was heavily intoxicated and began punching seats and yelling profanities at passengers and crew on the flight on Saturday morning,

new zealanders have proven time and time again that they in general are not good at getting along with other nationalities.
