awful news. Ostensibly, the Burmese have the right to bear arms but in practise the required permits are never issued - unless you're a privileged elite of course. there are a few armed factions who smuggle their firearms in but according to wikipedia at least, the Burmese army is the "second largest active force in Southeast Asia after the People's Army of Vietnam."
