The warden is convinced that his extortion claims are total nonsense.

But you would have to have control of your establishment to be certain and last I heard, two prisoners got a hacksaw and cut the roof open. It is possible that another prisoner gets a saw and gets to work on the Yankee.

Just sayin

Feel sorry for the dude from a humanitarian point of view, but he's clearly not the sharpest spliff in the box. My brother would love to visit me in Japan from California but cannot conceive of abstaining from weed, so I've told him in no uncertain terms DO NOT COME. And this is Japan, which compared with Indonesia is lenient with drug offenses.

seriously, who in their right mind wants to go to bali on vacation and face the risk of medieval justice?!!!

The folks who have no intention of breaking any laws. Bali is a paradise, the people VERY friendly, and it's relatively safe.

My question is who in their right mind would go to Bali to break the law in the first place?

Laguna - your brother could easily hook up in Japan with minimal risk.  Agree you have to be nuts to take drugs to any south East Asian country, although as with here they are all freely available there.

If I ever happen to end up in Bali, I will not bring any luggage!!

You don't go to a foreign land to buy or sell drugs than expect not to be punished for it. And you know some foreign prison's don't treat you with human rights, it's your choice.

No mouth in that mask, and it looks like he may actually be gagged. Not a happy prospect.

Is Bali really such a schizophrenic place though? What is the word on the street for young people? Do what you like, but don't get caught?

The man is an idiot. Truly medical derived products made from chemicals in marijuana don't have to make one high and don't have to be smoked. He's smokes it, because he wants his buzz. And don't try and give me that, "most effective method of delivery". And then has the brains (or lack of due to you know, constant use by toking) to go to Indonesia. They actually might have left him alone if it wasn't a bag of ganja that one could roll up and smoke. Lets say it would be Dronabinol or something in a medication bottle, he might of had a better chance since it's prescription only.

I tend to believe that what Beasley is saying is, more than likely, true. That's the kind of stuff you see in prison populations where ever there are prisons and prisoners. The overcrowded and understaffed conditions at Kerobokan are a perfect breeding ground for this kind of behaviour and to think that it doesn't happen there is unrealistic.

The Warden's response is completely understandable and predictable. To give credence to Beasley's claims would, by implication, be an admittance that he was not in control. Fat chance of him doing that. He has the law and the power of the government behind him so he can look those foreign journalists right in the eye, and tell them anything he wants.

All in all, these kinds of incidents are examples of the friction you can get when different and disparate cultures rub up against each other. Young Christian is a proper representative for an unfortunately large number of young American millennials. He has his "cannabis card" and his "rights" and he feels that everyone should and will respect his enlightened and progressive realty. Sorry Chris, Bali ain't California.

Evil! Evil! He wanted to intoxicate himself. That:s as evil as humanity gets.

my point is in case you are set up, which can easily happen when you luggage is out of your possession at the airport, then you are totally and completely screwed

None of which happens to apply in this case. If you meant this in the first place you should have written it.

The dude knowingly brought it into the country, or purchased it there, both of which are illegal, and he is ignorant enough to think that the laws don't apply to him because he has a get out of jail free card? Gimmie a break, ignorance is no defense.
