LIBERTAS
This moron is responsible for Suu Kyi's extended house arrest. Should be flogged when he gets back to the US.
Triumvere
Dude is nutso. His stated reason for the intrusion was told him to "protect" Aung San Suu Kyi.
presto345
The Myanmar goons were actually very pleased with the moron's action as it gave them an excuse to detain Suu Kyi again. The whole thing is highly suspicious and looks like it was orchestrated.

Trying to steal Clinton's thunder after North Korea...
Badsey
-When your job is finished you must go home.
It seems these socialist regimes are easy on crime/punishment (NK etc) -A liberals dream country it seems.
Triumvere
Erg. Lets try again:
Dude is nutso. His stated reason for the intrusion was God told him to "protect" Aung San Suu Kyi.
That's beter.

I am probably way off base, but this stinks of collussion. Here is a guy,an american ,in a foreign country, ruled by a military junta, who somehow creates a cloak of invisibilty, and swims freely and gets past all the security guards, who bye the way are making sure no one gets access to Suu Kyi,who is under house arrest,(which was soon to end)... because the military junta thinks she is a threat to them and their undisputed rule....then after a mock trial Suu Kyi is given extended house arrest for a further 18 months, making sure she can't run in the elections in 2010... The american gets 7 years hard labour, which is cut short by the white night(uncle sam)and set free to enjoy his life as a free man back in the good old USA. This stinks.
ThonTaddeo
No, the Burmese government is responsible for her continued house arrest. It's them who came up with the outrageous idea of punishing the visitee in addition to the visitor.
JoeBigs
Where do you get your misinformation? Burm....opps sorry... Myanmar's form of government is a Military Junta far from a liberal bastion. A liberal bastion would be more like ancient Athens.
Aung San Suu Kyi follows a philosophy of non-violence promoted by Mahatma Gandhi and also that of her Buddhist beliefs. Meaning she is what you would consider a leftist.
Again, where do you get your information? If you can prove that the MIlitary junta is a liberal bastion please do so. I wait for your proof.....
MeanRingo
While this guy is an idiot, I agree with ThonTaddeo. It wasn't his fault she was given an extended sentence. It's the Junta's fault. Bunch of freaks. America needs to go in full force and change that regime, as they've been so good at recently. Free Burma Now!

Senator Jim webb,way to go.
US/World needs more people like Jim webb in Myanmar and Bill Clinton in Koreas.
SuperLib
He needs the "idiot" sticker attached to his forehead and the $10,000 idiot fine before being released.
bobbafett
This guy is a jerk. He landed Kyi deep in sh#t with his stunt. He should have been shot or jettisoned off the Earth

People post the most ridiculous statements just to bash liberals/conservatives. As JoeBigs stated, the junta is the farthest thing from liberalism one can imagine. They turned the entire country into a jail.
Somethings need to be addressed. One, no matter how stupid Yettaw's actions were, he cannot be blamed for Suu Kyi's extended sentence. For the past 5 years in memory, her sentence has always been "one year" and extended for some various reason or lack of reason. The junta's own law states that one cannot be held under house arrest for more than 5 years. However, last year it became 6 years. The American's action have no relation to Suu Kyi's position. The guy is being used as a pawn by the government.
It's also ridiculous that Yettaw goes home while Suu Kyi's sentence was extended. I'm a huge supporter of Suu Kyi, so I don't mean any disrespect by this. Suu Kyi is free to leave Burma anytime. She is free to go abroad and visit her sons which she hasn't seen for 20 years (her British husband passed away while she was under her first house arrest). The junta would love for her to go abroad. However, she refuses to abandon the millions of people who look for her for hope and a better future.
moonbeams
Can't do that. There are between 5 to 9 warring ethnic minority groups. Most have signed peace contracts with the junta (Burmese). Remember Iraq with 3 ethnic groups? I'm all for taking out the junta, who systematically rape, torture and murder the Karen people, but you can't just go in and take them out.

Good job to Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia. I have no illution that there will be any meaningful dialoque between the US and Myranmar. < :-)

By the way, what he was doing with MS.Suu Kyi for two days!!!
Jkanda
good spy story for 11 year olds.

You people actually believe that this guy floated his (stealth) dragon boat across the moat, serenaded Suu Kyi with a passionate love song(s) for a whole 2 nights, and she resisted this gentleman midnight caller and is now patiently waiting for a proper man to take her away.
-the reality is that it was all a set-up. In real life things like that don't happen. =Don't cry, but there is no noble prince that is coming to rescue you! --> (Bill Clinton maybe)
Badsey
These people are Libs! -they change all laws at will to suit their needs and take no responsibility. =7 years becomes 1 week. 1yr becomes perpetual.
Bleeding heart Libs! Libs take note: Myanmar is your country!

Badsey,
Apparently you have very little understanding about Burma or liberalism.
Why don't you take some time to research things you know little about before posting things that don't make sense online.
