American man on solo mission to kill bin Laden detained in Pakistan

The real difference between crazy Muslim extremists and crazy Christian extremists is that the Muslims are better at murdering people. Granted this could be a very good cover story by a real CIA man. Some how I really don’t think that is the case though.

Doesn't trash Bin Laden have a bounty on his head? Nothing wrong with trying to make about $25 Million extra.

I thought the bounty was 2mil or so. He's got a slightly better chance of playing the mega lottery or something, and doesn't have to be a one man show along the borders of Pakistan! He should leave it to the intelligence agencies. Its their job and they have better resources than 1 person alone.

I knew a guy like this once. Crazy? Fool? Nutter? Yeah maybe, but I think people really would be surprised at how effective these kinds of wild weasels are when nobody expects them.

the more reports I read about this incident, the more Im starting to think that Pakistan does know exactly where OBL is located and is helping the terrorist hide what other seek. There have been other reports of others being arrested for the same situation from the Pakistani gov. Makes you think more about what the government is hiding.

I did not think that the point needed clarification, but all the cases I mentioned above were PROBABLY lone gunmen who attacked world figures. Yeah. George Wallace lived. I thought I would put him in there to balance out the Kennedys because my list was liberal/pacifist heavy. I could have listed Lennon, the Pope, and Ronald Reagan too. Gerald Ford, twice. Larry Flynt. Some living some dead. Point being that motivated people, even individuals, can be effective.

From the sounds of what this guy was packing, he was better armed than, let's say Hinckley or John Chapman. He was informed and motivated.

I am also wondering if I am the only one who kind of wonders about Pakistan's motivation to end this Bin Laden thing once and for all. Ever since American involvement in Afghanistan in the 80s, they have been the go-to people for military support there. I wonder if they feel it is truly in their interest to find/kill Bin Laden. If they are less single-mindedly motivated than Faulkner, then we need a few more Faulkners going after Bin Laden and fewer Pakistanis, in my opinion.

Faulkner is not a hero. He is probably not even sane. But if he had pulled it off, he would have been paid and given a whole lot more by well-wishers everywhere.

He's one of many that have tried this crazy stunt. My friend's borther (and in all fairness a pretty freaky special forces Falklands Vet) got on a plane to Afghanistan shortly after the world trade centre was demolished to collect Bush's bounty and Ossam's head.

He 'aint been seen since the poor sod, and I'm sure he wasn't the only crazy ex-mercanary not to return from such a mission.

I don't think he stood a snowball's chance in Afghanistan, but stranger things have happened.

Fundamentalist Christians like this one don't watch Hollywood films, they play some sort of role-playing, violent PC games for entertainment. It seems by traveling to Pakistan Faulkner is finally living his computer fantasy. Sad.

We all know if we think about it honestly that if this guy had done this on 9-15-2001, that people would be jumping up and down cheering. I wonder what has changed. Did the informant who tipped-off Saddam's location got his million dollar bounty? Wasn't there some controversy back then about this person's eligibility to get his reward money...

This man would only have been considered sane if he succeeded (assuming OBL is alive), which may be why the Pakistan gov might have been acting a little fishy in their intelligence dept. Any reason to keep the Americans at war and pouring cash into their country eh?

I applaud his will to get the job done even though it's a bit foolhardy to think you alone are going to hunt down someone the CIA can't find. The Pakistanis only arrested him for his own protection. If he had come into harms way and used as a video demand on the US government they'd have to answer some questions as to why he wasn't watched in Pakistan. Maybe they should take him along on some of their exercises against the Taliban though.

And really how can anyone say that OBL is dead or not? That's just your speculation.

I am afraid the one being foolhardy is you. You place so much stock in the CIA, but they have been failing you for how long? A new approach is needed OBVIOUSLY. And God only knows why you would trust the CIA anyway. Its not like they get elected based on trustability, is it? Its not like they have anywhere near a clean record, is it?

And this "own protection" stuff is what? The guy is 51. He can make his own decisions.

Sorry Zenny but I do trust that the CIA have been hunting him down just that there are too many obstacles in being successful at it. Namely Geography and Politics.

You also seem to thing the CIA is capable is this sort of mission. And I have to admit, I agree with you about the politics but we may not agree on exactly what kind of politics are the problem. Geography has got to be one of the weirdest excuses I ever heard. At least the politics you must be able to see a loner is not encumbered by?
