I don't know what this guy was thinking but I think he's lost his head. Figuratively and literally.

he walked off his base in eastern Afghanistan without body armor and weapons, officials said Thursday.

why? body armor and weapons too heavy to carry(?).

Expect more stories like this with Obama's crazy policies, which seem to be sending our military crazy too.

How does this incident relate to Obama's policies?

DickMorris: wow! explain please.

TumbleDry: Don't waste your time on trollers like the one you address above.

As for the soldier in question, it really seems an odd thing to do. Either the guy has/had a death wish, or he was just testing the boundaries of stupidity.

What is our President Barack Hussein Obama going to do about this?

Invite the terrorists for a barbecue?

All of Obama's apologizing and groveling didn't work?

"All of Obama's apologizing and groveling didn't work?"

Incredible, isn't it?

Two U.S. defense sources said the soldier “just walked off” post with three Afghans after he finished working." What happened to the three Afghans?

Also as neither a pro nor an against Obama person, I can hardly see how anyone can lay blame on him or his policies. now that what I recently learn on Fox News about Saddam's FBI talks, I am pissed that we bothered going in getting him when we should have sent every unit to Afghanistan to eradicate AQ from there, even if that meant making a deal with the Taliban and probably could have been done with this crap!

I think what dick morris was getting at was the new policy of retreating if the threat of civilian casualties is seen as too great. So basically all the taliban have to do now is just run into civilian homes, take them hostage and by this new policy US forces have to retreat because engaging the taliban would be seen as too risky.

The three afghans are also said to have been captured.

All I have to say is, WTFO? What was this guy smoking, walking off with 3 Afghans? I repeat WTFO??

Yeah our President should have been right there making sure this guy did not just walk off...Yeah....LOL

If I were a parent of a soldier like this one, I don't know how I would handle NOT knowing what's going on. maybe I'd prefer to learn he died instead of waiting to hear of him being captured, tortured, head cut off, and thrown in the garbage and then having his torturers putting the vid up on Youtube.

Nolining: so why doesn't the article mention that in more detail. Sorry if I sound suspicious, but could they have been a part of what may have happened?

Time for a reality check folks. If somebody has indeed been captured, he/she is as good as dead. The US and the Afghan authorities don't give tea and cake to members of the Taliban they capture, and you cannot really expect that US/Allied service people would be treated any differently. The big question is, however, is how the Taliban do the deed? A couple of rounds to the back of the head or a beheading video to be released on extremist websites. Both options are rather grizzly.

No... what DickMorris is doing is simply trolling. There's no way a policy about retreating to avoid civilian casualties -- a high friction point in this war -- had ANYTHING to do with a US soldier walking off base unarmed, and with no protection. Please stop trying to defend outright stupidity.

Yes, Obama's US policy is for morons to walk off base in combat areas with no weapons and/or protection. He's directly to blame (sarcasm).

Are you sure that's what he did? If he left willingly, screw him. We ain't got no time worrying about someone like that.

Just a comment based on experience, in an unfriendly areas standard SOP dictates that weapons must in hand at all times. This includes when responding to calls of nature. One of characteristics of a good soldier is the ability to lay logs while juggling both toilet paper and weapons. Another is the liberal use of cam cream on areas of the body not usually exposed to the sun (lol). If this chap walked off base with some locals unarmed, then his oversight probably got him killed. Then again, it might be an entire put up, with this chap deciding to defect to the Taliban for some reason.

skip: That's what the opening of this story seems to indicate. Regardless, as timorborder points out you are required to have weapon 'in hand' at all times, so he was neglectful at best.

Obama will have to fly to Cairo again, talk about his Mohammedan childhood, his time in the madrass, his fondness for the House of Saud, etc.

So that is what a troll sounds like when he is begging to be fed.

I can't tell what language that is. Is it gibberish or nonsense?

To President Obama - "Any plan to visit Pakistan in the near future?"

"I would love to visit. As you know, I had Pakistani roommates in college who were very close friends of mine.

[...]

"And so I have a great affinity for Pakistani culture and the great Urdu poets."

"You read Urdu poetry?"

"Absolutely."

No matter what the banter here, I hope he's brought back safely. < :-)

Can we leave the prez out of this conversation and try to update this news? I'm curious as to why all this has happened. for all we know, he could have decided to join the other side. That does happen from time to time. If he's enlisted, I can't imagine any reason why there would be a conspiracy as to have him abducted, unless we are playing with a numbers game.
