Same as Japan and Abe.

For many people Clinton was a horrible first term President, but became a quite decent President in his second term, with Trump it just all depends on the people you are asking, sure there are things that could be done better, but on the economy and how the markets are roaring in the first year so far, if this keeps up, he'll easily be on his way to a second term and even for the people that don't like the President it will be more difficult to dislodge him and even be more tolerable of the things that make some people cringe.
Strangerland
Can't have been that many or he wouldn't have had a second term.
Can't say the same about Trump. Widely hated, losing support day by day, and supporting pedophiles that lose doesn't help his game at all.
Trump supports losers.

Happy 2018, everyone!
I sometimes feel like the best way to summarize 2017 is Democrats repeatedly and ineffectually begging Republicans not to hang themselves and the GOP furiously demanding more rope.

It is an interesting conundrum here. I am not a supporter of Trump (nor was I a supporter of the "main" Democratic candidates)
The U.S. economy is doing well and improving (as is the global economy). The stock market (which I have never seen representative of the economy for the average person) is at record highs - all of this seems to be a bubble to me.
Home prices are up, more people are working and wages are up as well.
On the other hand the poll indicates people still do not support the President. It is highly unusual and I think it says alot. Usually with these macro trends (real or not) there is support for a President.
I think the U.S. has been undergoing division for a couple of decades now. It accelerated when President Obama was in office and has further accelerated with President Trump in office. Trump is responsible for the accelerated division as is the media (there are plenty of things to go after Trump about but they nitpick at everything and have been caught lying recently).
Personally I think the U.S. (and the global economy) is in a bubble, which is going to eventually pop. Watch the Fed raise interest rates and the ensuing reaction. Also watch how the new tax plan screws small businesses.
I think 2018 is going to get very interesting on several levels. It will be something if this bubble pops and people finally realize how big the wealth gap has truly become and how much the average "Joe" has been getting ripped off.
Soon to be adios to 2017 but I think 2018 will be more interesting. We are certainly living in strange (and possibly historic) times.
bass4funk
Actually, there were, but once the GOP took over congress Clinton had no choice but to work with them and as such, he was able to get a lot of things legislative down. Also Clinton wasn't a raving radical left loon, of course there were policies that made you roll your eyes but overall, the man was pragmatic.
Yeah, sure. ROFL
Well, there are millions of happy losers, cool!
Yes, happy 2018! LOL
Katsu, By the way, what will the Dems run on and what policies that they have that will make Americans want to support them? What are their ideas for job creation?
SuperLib
This article really isn't saying anything we don't already know, unless you are in a bubble.
katsu78
Trump and the spineless GOP are doing their best to ensure Democrats don't need a platform. At this point, a vague "We're going to clean up Trump's mess," would probably compete pretty effectively. Hell, a vague, "We don't support pedophile senator candidates," might be enough to do the job at this point.
Strangerland
No, there weren't, or Clinton wouldn't have had a second term. You can try to gloss around that fact all you want, but it's self-evident.
Strangerland
The Republicans showed in the last election that these things don't matter. You just need to obstruct the government so that they cannot get anything done, then blame them for not getting anything done. It's a proven strategy.
Laguna
Hmm. Seems Corker's come around to supporting that GOP tax "simplification" monstrosity in which the working class get a pittance for six years and the rich a whole lot forever. So it will probably pass. How the GOP plans to run on this in the midterms will be fascinating to observe.
Jimizo
And then went on to give Dole an absolute hiding in 1996. Clinton won by a landslide in the Electoral College and destroyed Dole in the popular vote.
Do the non-partisan historians you read state otherwise?
mukashiyokatta
Minority president ... people actually chose Hillary Clinton ... unstable, unhinged, childish, attacking, racist, prejudiced, sexist ... lowest ratings ever ... even disliked by Republicans ... completely inexperienced in anything but business (5 bankruptcies) ... unqualified, unfit ... doesn't believe in facts, doesn't believe in science ... got 5 deferments from having to go to Vietnam ... self-confessed sexual predator ... lyin' Donald.
bass4funk
Depends on what bubble you’re in, the panic or the rational one.
He doesn’t need to, they don’t. They really, really don’t. Can’t take away what you didn’t have.
Sorry, that argument/ploy can’t and won’t work anymore. Moore didn’t win and the GOP has been saved from what would have been the evident kill zone.
No, it’s very true, also it’s very hard to unseat an incumbent President.
Not glossing anything, wouldn’t do that, never done that, just the truth. The GOP Congress saved Clinton from becoming a radical left wing loon President, brought him to the middle and they were actually able to get things done, besides his abominable conducts privately, he was a decent President.

Politico reports on House Speaker Ryan's possible resignation. A couple thoughts:
Talk about an exodus! - with control of congress and the presidency, something Ryan's waited his whole life for, he's bailing!
This would be due to his opinion of Trump and the direction his party is heading.
He's a coward. A diehard deficit hawk, he slashes taxes and then bolts before the hard work of slashing Social Security and medical programs - required now to get the budget back in balance - commences.
After he's gone, who would accept this poisoned chalice?https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/12/14/paul-ryan-retire-speaker-ready-leave-washington-216103
bass4funk
Possible, doesn’t mean he will or won’t. This is when thecleft gets themselves over their heads and how misinformation is spread.
Had no idea you know the speaker personally. Do you also know how he likes his steaks cooked?
If Ryan is a coward then that makes the Democratic Party a party of irredeemable charlatans.
Quite a few actually, if or when it happens.

Nobody is questioning the validity of the poll yet?
It's elucidating how a crazy, clearly corrupt conservative can claim to know the inner workings of a criminal trial in SF, but question someone else's assertion to inside knowledge.
Strangerland
No it's not. The fact that Clinton was elected to a second term proves it wrong.
No its not. They need to be elected same as anyone else. The rules literally do not change a single bit for such elections.
Laguna
Pew found:
by a 52-24 margin, voters favored higher corporate taxes;
by a 43-24 margin, voters favored higher taxes on the rich;
by a 60-17 favored net neutrality;
fifty-five percent of voters oppose reducing legal immigration;
73 percent support DACA legislation;
seventy-two percent of the public thinks Trump has done something illegal or unethical with Russia. The list goes on - even the majority of the minority that votes Republican does not support its agenda. And yet they continue voting for them. No wonder they're pessimistic.
bass4funk
LOL. Yes, indeed.
Yes, it’s very true, and thankfully the GOP helped to steer him center. Otherwise, he would have never made it to a second term.
Yeah and Pew and most of the reliable polls said that Trump couldn’t win either and another and another poll said that Moore is ahead of Jones and another said, Jones was ahead and one said, they’re tied. Some people put their hopes and dreams into polls and I say, let them. Lol
SuperLib
They should have asked people if they believe Trump is racist. I'd be curious to see the responses.
Goodlucktoyou
@super. It’s racist to ask if somebody is racist.
bass4funk
I think liberals do indeed think that.
Lol, now that we are learning more day by day this entire investigation was a complete lie and the top echelon of the FBI and the DOJ are under fire and deep scrutiny for their bias of McCabe and the other Democratic hit squad thst is morphing and finally revealing itself for what it really was the entire time, a political hit job. Lisa Bloom was found to offer money to these accusers up to 750K to give testimony on Trump at the very last day in the hopes of swinging the election. Everything that the insane left have done so far failed and now their setting themselves up for another failure, they just never learn.
Strangerland
No, we're not learning that at all. That's just the propaganda your government is feeding you through Fox TV and Bannoncast. It's not actually based in truth or reality, they are just feeding it to those who are stupid enough to buy it, which it turns out is somewhere around 30% of the people in the country.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
Remember folks, Donald loves the poorly educated!! :D
Strangerland
Heh, another plaster watching their president implode, pleading ‘but we won last year!’
SuperLib
Rosenstein (a Republican) recently testified that he has seen nothing improper with Mueller's investigation and he's in constant contact with Mueller and is overseeing all parts of it. He also said he sees no reason to stop it.
Im assuming your comments are from information you've read from right wing Trump supporting partisan websites who don't have access to all of the information and who make money off of telling you something different.
Either way, does it really matter? Trump's people are going to jail and you can't stop it.
bass4funk
Yes, we did and that that we know there is more than illusion going on as well as clear corruption on the part of the FBI the pressure is mounting on Mueller looks like their could be a grand jury is looming over Mueller’s head.
Yeah, that argument doesn’t fly and there is no such thing as pink elephants. Liberals keep shooting themselves in the gut and thank God for FOX if not for them, we would be living in a one sided liberal echo chamber and would never know the truth. The left can disparage all they want, they can believe what they want and this time no one is listening to their liberal spin on the facts.
Implode? Watching the news it seems that the FBI as well as the DOJ are exploding.
No one in their right mind believes Rosenstein, there are a lot of lower ranked FBI agents that are appalled by what he said, I don’t think he even believes what he said, the problem with the FBI and the left, they think the rest of the country is going to say, well, that’s good enough for me, I’m convinced. That lie just doesn’t fly anymore. And each time they screw up and get caught, that’s another golden nugget.
Now and more than ever, I don’t think so! In fact, I’m 99% it won’t happen now. Especially with what we now know.
SuperLib
Time to roll out your favored line: "prove it."
dmacleod
No, we did not. You are simply parroting right wing websites which want to discredit the investigation because you have nothing else as a defense. So far, the Mueller investigation has produced 2 indictments and 2 guilty pleas--with more to come. As far as your Grand Jury fantasy over Mueller's head, that's just not happening.
The only ones "spinning the facts" are you and your right wing friends. Meanwhile, the investigation continues--and real facts are coming to light. I can't wait for Flynn's cooperation with the investigation to reveal some "real" and inconvenient facts for you to try and obfuscate, discredit, or ignore.
Only in your remote corner of the universe. Meanwhile, the investigation goes on.
Nope, no one in their right mind believes your attempt at repeating the right wing smear tactic on this, but please go ahead and continue to post such nonsense. Don't be surprised if you are called on to explain your statements in the coming months after more indictments and guilty pleas come in.
I've been writing all of these little nuggets down (time stamps and all). Don't be surprised to get called on them in the future.
MAGA -- Mueller Ain't Going Away
Madverts
Plenty of team Trump are going away.
Tommy Jones
This is the crazy, clearly corrupt conservative kittycat go to. When something isn't going their way, they constantly repea disparaging falsehoods regarding the investigators or decision makes.
These people constantly say we cannot know if something is a fact unless it is determined in a criminal court. Then, when something is determined in a criminal court that they disagree with, the court is claimed to be bias.
They have no respect for the institutions that are the bedrock of US democracy.
You're not the first to try this tactic. Please continue, but it won't matter when you call out the poster because that poster is not succeprabke to facts or logic, even when you quote that poster.
Tommy Jones
Super: You do realize the proof will come in the form of that poster's family members or extensive contacts and sources, correct?
wtfjapan
thank God for FOX if not for them, we would be living in a one sided liberal echo chamber and would never know the truth. LOL make it sound like FOX doesn't lie and everybody else does. that great Hollywood liberal company Disney will own Fox soon. LOL

Given the daily assault on Trump and anyone associated with the Whitehouse, it’s amazing anyone is positive about Trump.
American journalists are are so crazy they’ll go after pecan pies and Melania’s shoes and Christmas decorations.
Trump isnt the problem..
its the continually angry people who are still mad that they were wrong about the election.
Its never nice to lose, but American liberals are showing themselves to be the biggest loser negative group politics has ever seen.
Meanwhile the the stock market and all negative indicators are great.
Contrary to what many completely incompetent tv talking heads said.
Trump winning the election and still standing is an amazing success story.
It will just take 10 years for some people to admit it.

No, #2 after the Republicans during Obama's term.
If you doubt me, then why are Republicans so angry even after winning?
Strangerland
In an ironic turn of events, the Trump team is now complaining about some emails of theirs that were ‘improperly accessed’.
Karma couldn’t have delivered a funnier turn of events.
wtfjapan
Its never nice to lose, but American liberals are showing themselves to be the biggest loser negative group politics has ever seen. thats the excuse Republicans continue to use, majority of liberals have accepted the loss, but what they cant accept are policies of a recalcitrant man-child that arent supported by the majority or even larger minority of Americans. Like Obama and every other POTUS before him the opposition and congress as a whole doesn't have to kowtow to every whim of the President, it his job to put forward policies or change existing ones that are acceptable to them. Even with Trumps majority in congress he cant manage to do that on the majority of his major policies.
bass4funk
Actually, yes, you did.
No, I can’t promote or pull something from thin air when you have tangible evidence. Try again. By the way, where have you been, been awhile dude.
No one told Strzok to use a government phone and to write to his lover disparaging remarks about the President jeopardizing his role in this witch hunt. What a flamin’ moron. With all the smarts and he gets caught, you just can’t make this stuff up.
What facts? Over a year 16 lawyers and nothing, Yeah, I want Mueller to keep roaming in the wilderness like an idiot, the long this keeps going, the more we find out how bias this band or merrily whacked Democratic hounds really are. Now there were over 10,000 text messages found between Strzok and his lover and Mueller improperly obtaining documents by confiscating emails without a warrant. My, my That’s bad as well as illegal and the amazing thing is, the corrupt FBI officials admitted it. Yikes!
And turning up nothing, this is fun! Dog will hunt!
I don’t have to smear, seems like the FBI, Strzok, Mueller McCabe, Rosenstein are all doing a dandy of a banged up job at it. ROFL
Not worried, it probably won’t happen, especially now as tainted as it is. Too funny! Lol
nishikat
Are you confident the US can continue its economic growth under Trump? It's all credited on Trump?
bass4funk
Yes.
nishikat
Because...?
bass4funk
The Stock Market doesn’t lie.
Tommy Jones
Mueller was appointed in May 17, 2017, so how can his investigation be "over a year?" How are two guilty pleas and two indictments "nothing?"
Crazy, clearly corrupt conservative kittycats obviously don't realize their credibility takes a serious blow when they cannot even get simple facts straight.
nishikat
But Trump is doing badly in other areas:
Expect illegal immigration across the Mexican border to double next year
(news quote)
This is all Trump's fault. He is allowing more Mexicans to come into the USA. They are stealing the jobs of real Americans and making the economy worse. It's Trump's fault.
Tommy Jones
Ot can be manipulated, which means it doesn't always reflect reality.
bass4funk
I’m sorry, let me rephrase that, officially.
Dunno, Seems the left can never get any facts straight or the facts that put their mind at ease.
Tommy Jones
Let me guess, we need the facts established in a criminal court. Then, if you disagree, you'll just decide the court is biased
bass4funk
Hardly if a sitting judge decides to not allow key evidence to be heard or seen. Not bias, just sneaky.
nishikat
No, the facts is that more illegals are crossing the borders under Trump- many more to come in 2018 (NO WALL!!!). Also, North Korea crisis under Trump. Healthcare costs are up under Trump. Also, no net neutrality like in Japan (Japan is better than USA with internet at lower cost). It is better to have net neutrality and Japan is proof. Why did Trump kill net neutrality.
Facts
Tommy Jones
That's not what you were raging about regarding the decision out of SF.
No, it is not sneaky. It's called the rule of law. You've been repeatedly educated about this.
nishikat
A Trump follower would call it a "Liberal Judge". Trump made racist remarks about one. He is a racist.
bass4funk
I did, I totally disagreed with that Kangaroo courts verdict.
Well, not really rule of law, more like political grandstanding, but it's ok, can't be helped, it's SF. No one is surprised.
nishikat
Only according to a Trump follower. They think these are "Liberal judges" even though they have often been appointed by Republican presidents like GWB. It shows that Trump and his followers are racists.
Tommy Jones
There is a clear pattern here: If I don't like it, it's not legitimate.
Someone's ignorance of the judicial system is on full display. This person was educated on why they were incorrect in the thread on that article.
nishikat
No, other judges ruled against Trump. The judge ruling against Trump's Tweet about transgenders is DC based.
Tommy Jones
Your point that denying what you don't like is not "regulated" to the right would be bolstered if you could provide examples.
Nice incorrect reference to Jonestown. Flavor aid, not Kool aid, was used. The latter half of that sentence certainly disproves the former.
wtfjapan
It’s racist to ask if somebody is racist. its racist if im a white guy asking another white guy if a white POTUS is racist, LOL
bass4funk
I did.
Coke or Pepsi, 7-Up or Sprite who cares? They're all artificial. LOL
Tommy Jones
No, you didn't. Try re-reading your posts to see the fallacy of your claim.
Ummm . . . Okay. Whether flavor aid or look aid is artificial wasn't the point. The point was you incorrectly referencing a historical event to demonstrate you are an independent critical thinker. When called on your mistake, you attempt to obfuscate, which is your establishment pattern, instead of admitting you're incorrect or just letting it go.
Tommy Jones
You mean you disagreed with the jury's verdict. You couldn't just say that though. You had to throw in the emotional "kangaroo." You'd do well to just admit you despise the constitutional right to a trial by jury in criminal proceedings when you disagree with the verdict.
bruinfan
Yeah and Pew and most of the reliable polls said that Trump couldn’t win either ... This poll was off by a few percent in a very close election. These results are solidly by much larger % margins.
