In their own Easter message, Trump and his wife, Melania, paid tribute to the medical professionals, first responders and other essential workers striving to combat the pandemic.

I echo Trump on this. But doubt he and his fellow elites will do much more than pay tribute to them. I'll bet they continue to pay them no never mind after/if this is over. I doubt the nabobs running health industries will be willing to give up any of their pay and perks so those at the lower end might be able to get just a bit more.

Hats off and thank you to all those working the front lines of the virus battles. You're heroes. It's too bad your leaders have put you at such great risk while they remain safely and comfortably kept away from it. And are able to pay lower taxes.

Easter is the most sober and spiritual period of the Christian faith. The current period of isolation and distance may be a good thing so folks can assess what is really important in their lives. Early Christians often had to practice their faith only at home, behind closed doors or be executed.

When you strip aways all the layers it boils down to the fundamental question - who is God to me and who am I to God. We each have to find our own answer. This unique (at least I hope this doesn't happen again) time, we have a chance to focus on that question.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

And? Are we meant to feel sorry for these people? They haven’t lost their ability to practice their religion, just temporarily the ability to gather.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Dr. Anthony Fauci said they recommended social distancing in February, but the recommendation was not done. He said, "there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down."

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Fauci didn’t, not in February. He has that liberal “rewriting history” gene but google says otherwise.

everything must be going well because they news is filled with two generic attacks right how. “Would have been better if acted sooner” and “we are sure the death numbers are much much higher”.

hope the faithful are enjoying Easter the best they can.

Prominent US public health adviser Dr Anthony Fauci appeared on Sunday to confirm a bombshell New York Times reportwhich said he and other Trump administration officials recommended the implementation of physical distancing to combat the coronavirus in February, but were rebuffed for almost a month.

*Asked on CNN’s State of the Union why the administration did not act when he and other officials advised, Fauci said: “You know … as I have said many times, we look at it from a pure health standpoint. We make a recommendation. Often, the recommendation is taken. Sometimes, it’s not.*

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/12/fauci-trump-rebuffed-social-distancing-advice-coronavirus

So, Dr. Fauci either did not understand the question, which is extremely unlikely, or he did recommend social distancing in February and Donny ignored it.

Wouldn’t it be great to have all of the churches full?” Trump said in a subsequent interview. “You’ll have packed churches all over our country.”

Nope, because that would be selfish and irresponsible.

Which doesn't seem very Christ-like to me.

rewriting history for CNN, which is why they invite him. CNN can’t even let people enjoy a peaceful Easter.

Yes it’s very easy to watch the freedom of others you dislike be taken away to do things you don’t care about.

so yes I do feel sorry for them on their important day. Trump tried his best but he followed advice of the medical people. He just has to keep an eye on Fauci who is dying to become a CNN crossover star into politics and book deals too.

And? Are we meant to feel sorry for these people? They haven’t lost their ability to practice their religion, just temporarily the ability to gather.

Happy Easter to you as well.

Same here, Happy Easter.

Some U.S. pastors went ahead with in-person services despite state or local bans on large gatherings.

And I thought that the physical health of a person was as important as the spiritual health!!!

President Donald Trump had said he planned to watch an online service led by the Rev. Robert Jeffress

This from a guy who was wishing everyone 'A Happy Good Friday'!!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@blacklabelHe just has to keep an eye on Fauci who is dying to become a CNN crossover star into politics and book deals too.

Do you have a source saying that's what Dr. Fauci wants to do? If he did go to work for any network that would put the fear of whatever in the anti-science crowd. But pro-science TV is needed to balance the anti-science telescamgelists and people like Hannity and Limbaugh who have such huge anti-science audiences.

Fauci has many well known liberal political connections and seems to keep sliding from his medical responsibilities into political commentary when he appears in public media.

His only focus should be on now and the future, not going back and confirming liberal media narratives that “more could have been done”. When he himself was part of that problem.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Mosques are open in New York City, by the way.

Now that Easter is over, will be interesting to see how other religions will now handle their own worship (and how government and police will enforce/ignore social distancing)

Yet again we are seeing how conservatives determine whether someone is an expert or credible: If they are liberal, they can’t be an expert or have credibility; if they are a conservative, they are an expert and are credible.

Too bad for you lot that that isn’t how reality works. It’s also hilarious when we use this standard against you and you start screeching. It’s the same with polls and news sources.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

So, now that it’s Easter, everything is okay in the states because Donny said so. He’s a “conservative,” so is an expert and has all the credulity in the world. Lmao!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

He has expertise and credibility in the medical field. That is why we are all following his medical advice. despite his models showing 10x as many deaths as there actually were.

its just unhelpful that he and CNN decided to use Easter Sunday to push political agendas and try to falsely rewrite history.

 If they are liberal, they can’t be an expert or have credibility;

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

There is good news on Easter Sunday. So much so that even CNN agrees. Plus Easter Sunday itself is always good news!

“Good news on coronavirus makes it harder for Trump to hold the line”

It's lip service, that's all. Donnie and Melanoma need to SHOW, NOT TELL. Their actions don't show any concern at all.

Donnie said he's the 'Chosen One' last year, remember? He's a false Christ. If he had his way the packed churches would be praising him since he thinks he's so divine. Trump has NO HOLY ASPECT in him whatsoever. None.

everyone ignores science based on personal beliefs/preferences.

So why cant people at low risk choose to go back to work or go to church on Easter, knowing that science says they have less than 0.1% chance of getting coronavirus and 99+% chance of not dying even if they do get it.

Going back to work or church on Easter means more people - clustered together. That's where the odds of getting coronavirus increase.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

So we just all stay home and never go back to work or church, ever?

so the odds increase...from 0.1% to 0.2%?

it obviously isnt a large amount of potential increase as Japan did no social distancing whatsoever for months in a severely dense population area. and yet the population as a whole is 99.99% uninfected.

everyone ignores science based on personal beliefs/preferences. A risk/benefit analysis based on personal choice.

People with this reasoning don't ignore science, they ignore the consequence of their action.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

good point! that is a much better way to put it, thanks.

Science is not ignored, just the consequences of what science has proven are ignored.

So why cant we ignore the consequences of coronavirus too as we have the freedom to do with many othetr things?

60 million people in the USA (compared to 500,000 for Corona) got H1N1 despite 1/3 of people over 60 being immune . Easter wasnt shut down in 2009 and millions were not put out of work.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

So why cant we ignore the consequences of coronavirus too as we have the freedom to do with many othetr things?

Because that can get other people sick or dead in a hurry.

One main reason I can see is that people who have ignored the recommendation purposely will endanger the society, crowd the country's health facilities, transmit to others, etc.

If they were to stay in their community and not use any public health facilities I guess it'll be ok.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Not if the 1% of high risk people stay home.

In the current situation 99% of people not at risk at all have to stay home instead.

Because people at low risk of developing life-threatening symptoms are still at risk of getting the virus and passing it on to others who are at high risk.

BlacklabelToday 10:57 am JSTSo we just all stay home and never go back to work or church, ever?

There's been many and much worse viruses, plagues and flus than this. The CoVID-19 will not last forever. Things like this never do. We gotta use our heads.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

blacklabel: falsely rewrite history.

Falsely rewrite history?

Fauci: "We make a recommendation. Often the recommendation is taken. Sometimes it's not. But it is what it is. We are where we are right now."

"If we had, right from the very beginning, shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different, but there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down.”

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fauci-expresses-cautious-optimism-over-latest-coronavirus-statistics

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Fauci was not advocating for shutting things down. He said March 9th for people to go on cruises they had booked and said as late as end of Feb that there was little to no risk from coronavirus.

So if he is including himself in the "If we" who were pushing back about shutting things down then he may be correct. But I feel he is claiming himself to have been on the side of shutting things down, when he wasnt.

"Weeks later, Fauci was still downplaying the risks, saying on Feb. 18 that the “hypothetical danger of coronavirus” to “just minuscule” compared to the “real and present danger” of the seasonal flu. Days later he finally changed his views and, in the process, was on his way to becoming a media star."

He cant "guarantee" anything ever and lets that be used by political partisans to claim their opposite narrative is correct. Because he wont "guarantee" something will be safe 7 months from now despite all likelihood that it will be safe, his liberal buddies can still claim it wont be safe. Playing along to be a media star.

Feb 17: Top disease official: Risk of coronavirus in USA is 'minuscule'; skip mask and wash hands

Masks. The only people who need masks are those who are already infected to keep from exposing others. The masks sold at drugstores aren't even good enough to truly protect anyone, Fauci said.

"If you look at the masks that you buy in a drug store, the leakage around that doesn't really do much to protect you," he said. "People start saying, 'Should I start wearing a mask?' Now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask."

(edit: A guy was yanked off a bus couple days ago by 10 police for NOT wearing a mask)

Fauci also doesn't want people to worry, but many are.

Coronavirus risk to U.S. as a 'whole' is 'still low': Fauci

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/coronavirus-risk-to-us-as-a-whole-is-still-low-fauci/vp-BB10NoWJ

Mar 5, 2020 - Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy: Coronavirus risk to U.S. as a 'whole' is 'still low': Fauci.

Video is conveniently "unavailable"- removed.

Having proven he is simply trying to rewrite his own history, we dont need the distraction of firing Fauci right now. Just keep him from making any more political statements by focusing on the new taskforce to reopen the country. Hes just the medical guy and as this moves away from medical to the economy he will be naturally less and less visible.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Mosques are open in New York City, by the way.

In case you didnt know the Saudis have banned pilgrims to Mecca.

Today Trump shared tweet from supporter that included a hashtag calling for Fauci to be fired.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

he should be fired, but only if he cant resist continuing to politicize his medical advice.

Remember, this is the guy who said the USA can only open once no one has the virus anymore (paraphrase).

We have only put up with his politics to date because his medical expertise was sorely needed. We obviously see his little "good job" hand signals to the "gotcha"! journalists at the end of his briefings.

But the health of our people and defeat of the virus is more important at this time. So he needs to stop his politics until this is over and not be a distraction by forcing himself to be fired. Its all up to him.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

he should be fired, but only if he cant resist continuing to politicize his medical advice.

Once an official’s politics are widely known, this is what Donny’s supporters want. Yikes.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

it is about Easter. this Dr Fauci guy claiming we had nothing to worry about as late as early March likely led to us not being able to reopen our economy by Easter. He now goes on CNN on Easter Sunday and acts as if he had nothing to do with that and was the one sounding the alarm the whole time when he wasnt.

Yes, I should have no indication of the politics of a person on a medical task force. Why would his politics be widely known, unless he chose to push political agendas?

Thought this post was about Easter and religions.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Excuse Donny’s constant 180s and “evolutions,” but nobody else’s except republicans.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Excuse Donny’s constant 180s and “evolutions,”

That's one way to characterize making decisions based on facts and changing circumstances. Not a good way though.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

So this is an admission that Fauci has constant 180s and has "evolved"? I say that he was simply wrong, and playing politics, and have shown his statements that prove it. I know that 2 days ago he said he thinks the election would be fine. Now he cant "guarantee" it will be safe or not once he hits the CNN screens. exactly what they wanted to hear.

The problem is that liberals and Dems (and Fauci) spent the whole month of Feb saying everything was fine. Just to be contrarians to what Trump said in the State of the Union speech and to attack him over the China ban on 31 Jan. His coronavirus task force was not necessary and had too many white people, remember?

You know how the USA reopens next week? Cant "guarantee" the election will be safe, so Trump remains in office until it is safe to have a proper vote once everyone is proven to have been vaccinated.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

there was no such advice.

Trump did the strict measures while Dems and liberals mocked him for doing so.

should have taken Fauci's advice and put in stricter measures sooner.
