With 20 or so witnesses and the perp's own confession, what possible grounds are there for a plea of not guilty? Am I missing something?

If a suspect declines to enter a plea, he/she is automatically assigned a plea of "not guilty"

Pretty scary stuff. Sounds like the guy had some problems.

Wolfpack,

Knife control now!

Knives need much less regulation. Guns are used in FAR more murders than knives in the US (2010: 67.5% vs 13.1%).

Approx half of American homes have guns, but almost 100% have all sorts of knives. However, knives are used far less often in murder, robbery and serious assaults.

Knife control now!

But not guns?

After his arrest, Scully-Powers told police he stabbed his father approximately 15 times in the back, neck and torso, switching knives because the blades were bending, according to prosecutors.

15 times! This is crazy. No one needs a knife that can stab so many times. There needs to be a limit on the number of cuts allowed. Also there needs to be a ban on assault knives. You know - those knives designed to look menacing and built similarly to knives used by the military. Some knives are made to kill people- these need to be highly regulated. Knife control now!

He could also be found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial, and his defense is "not-guilty" due to diminished mental capability.

One could argue that due to the severity of the crime that he was mentally insane when he did it!

That's for a doctor to decide, and personally speaking, in many cases, it's a purely BS excuse for trying to get away with murdering someone!

Hidden features in the Zoom software utilize the wifi signals to control people's minds. I'm sure I read that somewhere. The current president of the USA may back me up on this.

Cleo,

‘Not guilty’ is the go-to-plea; sort of like telling the prosecutors, “Prove it.” The ‘Not guilty’ plea is not the criminal saying “I didn’t do it,” just, again, “Prove it.”

Yes, it's called the court system. There is no law that states any "alleged" or otherwise criminal must implicate themselves.
