This was always the danger of Trumpsters boasting and Nobel Prize delusions.
Bintaro
Yeah, we have to wait for Trump's response, but if the North Koreans don't want to talk to Evil Super Mario over there, the talks are near dead.
OssanAmerica
The talks are probably dead. But they were dead to start with. All part of North Korea's strategy.
SuperLib
Hopefully they are just posturing and the talks will continue.

According to this the B-52s are unlikely to take part.

North Korea violated the previous deal with the US in the 90's
People may be being played
serendipitous1
Let's hope the childish name calling doesn't start again.
SuperLib
The problem with hawks is that their only response is to keep doubling down. That goes for both sides.

NK has no intention of giving up their program which is their main hope, strength, and bargaining chip. They hope to weaken the US Alliance with their Asian partners especially SK.
They are in it for the long game and the SK NK get together is a good example of Kim’s efforts to undermine the USA and SK.
Serrano
"Let's hope the childish name calling doesn't start again."
Little Rocket Man has no choice but to get with the program and denuclearize if he wants to survive along with his regime.
clamenza
In other words, its all just a little political song and dance before the summit.
oldman_13
Sorry die hard Trumpers, no Nobel peace prize for your guy.
thepersoniamnow
Highly recommend people get onto some podcasts with real analysts and historians and people who don’t just read the daily news and react, but look at what has happened, how it’s come to be, and understand what the main players are doing.
Serrano
As is tradition for them.
If North Korea didn't pull this kind of stunt, I'd be far more suspicious of their intentions.
oldman_13 Sorry, Trump haters, Trump is going to ensure N Korea doesn't nuke your city.
FizzBit
South Korea should threaten to kick US troops out if they don't change their "Libya" attitude. And get rid of Bolten too.
BS

Sad...
Come on... Suddenly NK wants to be friend within everyone?
DT going to show restraint?
if you thought so, you are seriously disillusioned...
“Nobel prize! Nobel prize! Nobel prize!”
SuperLib
We really won't know what both sides really want until they sit down and outline their positions.
TumbleDry
SuperLib: US is win all or nothing. North Korea is status quo.
North Korea is going to win.
Let’s hope it is going to change.

"North Korea has a message for President Donald Trump ahead of next month's summit: Don't listen to your hard-line national security adviser, John Bolton."
What the chubby side wants to say: That Schnauzer is a dog-war.

I think this is what’s going on. Kim is playing a game to weaken the alliance against him. It’s a smart play if the US, SK, and Japan fall for it. Personally I don’t mind leaving the South to deal with Kim on their own. They continue to play the fool by giving the North things and demanding nothing tangible in return.
Actually it would be great if the US military left South Korea. They are more than capable of defending themselves against the North. If Moon wants to play nice with the dragon then he can get burned by himself. That would free up 30,000 troops for the Mexican border.
Halwick
Just goes to show Kim and DPRK are not really interested in negotiations and that the summit meeting with the U.S. is a sham.
Even the top North Korean defector Thae Yong-ho pointed out DPRK has a history of sending out peace overtures, then backpedaling and reneging on commitments.....gestures resulting into nothing.
And North Korea will renege on their offer to "denuclearize" and resume missile tests and threats.
North Korea will accept peace and unification only on their terms: complete withdrawal of U.S. forces out of the peninsula, demilitarization of the DMZ, South Korea surrendering and accepting unification under DPRK regime.
If Moon is willing to accept DPRK's terms for "peace" and unification, then so be it. Just remember what happens to people who refuses to accept the DPRK regime.
A unified Korea under DPRK regime armed with nuclear weapons and ICBM missiles will be a powerful ally to China.
While North Korea is now stirring the pot and making provocative statements to make sure all world attention is focused on US-North Korea-South Korea and diverted away from China, China is quietly continue to fortifying that military base in the China Seas, conduct threatening military exercises and preparing to invade and forcefully annex Taiwan by 2020, thereby catching everybody off guard.

I do not think I ever agreed with the North Korea propaganda machine. But in this article there is one thing I agree with. John Bolton is repugnant.
katsu78
To be fair, I wouldn't want to negotiate with one of the Neocon architects of the Iraq War debacle either.
katsu78
It's hard not to judge these events on their timing. Trump appoints Bolton, Bolton loves bombing Muslims and foreigners. North Korea starts getting friendly, Trump crows that he's going to win the Nobel Peace Prize for solving the Korean War, then immediately violates his agreement with Iran. Then North Korea sees this and starts immediately backing away from diplomacy with Trump.
Bolton wanted to avoid having a military confrontation in two different parts of Asia at the same time. He wanted North Korea "solved" so he was free to attack Iran. But in his drive to attack Iran, he may have undermined his position with North Korea.
So it could well be that the net foreign policy achievements of the Trump Presidency will have been to take the stable if unpalatable situation his predecessor had created with North Korea and Iran and replace it with unstable and unpalatable confrontations with both.
bass4funk
Love Bolton, if Kim doesn't want to go into any negotiations with with the US or because they have a personal disdain for Bolton, then they were never sincere to begin with, nothing new about the North. Just squeeze them more and more, sooner or later, everyone cracks. They just may need more time.
bass4funk
Bolton never said that he wanted to attack Iran, but it is clear as the blue sky that it is unacceptable to have either a nuclear Iran or NK and in the case of Iran, Israel has more of a stake in this as well as all the Sunni nations, so put the US aside for a moment, Israel and the Sunni States will never allow a nuclear Iran to live amongst them, it will never happen. So as dovish and senile as liberals are with their grandeur of hippie peace diatribes, No one wants a war, but it may come to that if either of these countries THINK that having a nuke is negotiable.
thepersoniamnow
You guys are too funny.
Bolton is a mouthpiece for his president. He does the talking that others shouldn’t do in politics.
Loving or hating his personality is exactly the reaction they want.
lostrune2
Bolton was one of the hawks leading to the erroneous WMD justification for going into Iraq
If they're trying to drain the swamp, it's quite perplexing why they're keeping him around
