What the heck are these people thinking?? Chanting and yelling that this has got to stop?? Stop killing young African American men??? But this idiot fool was STEALING and then POINTING a GUN at a COP??? Oh, it was before Christmas so?? So, thugs take time off from stealing and raping, killing for certain holidays?? HECK NO!! Scum idiot thugs are stupid and dangerous 24/7 and 365 days a year, so this idiot young Black man thought it would be cool or funny to go steal and then point a GUN at a cop and the cop felt THREATENED so he shot and killed this young thug with a criminal record?? Oh, this has to stop, blah, blah, blah and on any given week end in Chicago and other urban areas of the USA Black on Black killings, say about 40 on any Saturday or Sunday do not even make the news anymore??? Oh, 2 cops in NEW YORK were gunned down, one a Latino and the other an Asian, both NYPD just sitting in their patrol cars, and some young idiot fool, with lots of anger towards the NYPD, shot them both dead, but NO newspapers in the USA will mention that the young angry man was BLACK??? WTF???

including that of Eric Garner, who died in a chokehold in New York last July.

Eric Garner died of cardiac arrest, in the ambulance, while being transported to the hospital. He did not die in a choke hold. For the media to continue to state things that are known to be untrue as facts is irresponsible at best.

Another "innocent" killed by a "guilty" cop. That requires a selective faith.

No, the cop shot the thug in self defense, plain and simple.

So, to show their anger over some punk kid being shot, black protesters are going to raze and loot black-owned businesses. Why not go to college or learn a skill, then get a job and become a valuable member of society?

The city differs. Majority of cops are black, Police chief is black and majority of residents are black and The city does not want to be confused with another city, mayor said. Mayor also black.

From another article........ "Belmar said the 18-year-old had a considerable criminal record in the less than two years since he turned 17, with three assault charges, armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon."

"Orlando Brown, 36, of nearby St. Charles was among the protesters.

"I understand police officers have a job and have an obligation to go home to their families at the end of the night," he said. "But do you have to treat every situation with lethal force? ... It's not a racial issue, or black or white. It's wrong or right."

Brown said he was pepper-sprayed during the protest and that his friend was arrested for failing to disperse.

Toni Martin, Antonio Martin's mother, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that her son was with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting. The video did not appear to show a female with the two young men."

If you remove the "black" from the description, you have a cop shooting someone who pulls a gun on him. It would not even be a story. But the race-baiting media manage to make it one.

Funny thing though, they only seem to mention race when the victim is black and the shooter is white, otherwise never. Where did they get that rule from?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Unlike the case in Ferguson, this suburb has more Black police officers on it, and some of the higher ups in the city (mayor)are Black. But also unlike Ferguson, this case has a video to show what happened.

From another article........ "Belmar said the 18-year-old had a considerable criminal record in the less than two years since he turned 17, with three assault charges, armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon."

In additon to this information, I have also read where the mother said that he was "trying to turn his life back around" for those who don't know, that means that he was a bad kid, and maybe he did tell his mother that, but he still hadn't made a full commitment to do so. That doesn't mean that it is ok for him to get shot by the police, but it also means that if he wanted to change his life, being out at 11pm, 18 and being out with the same crowd that you used to run with and with a gun is not exactly keeping you safe.

I am gald to see that the Mayor of this city, admits that this situation is not the same as the Brown case, and is willing to let the investigation continue before making comments that could be seen as inflamatory. Mayor DeBlasio of NYC could learn a thing or two from this small city mayor.

Before the anti-gun group gets on to this story and compare how safe their country is compared to the USA lets put this in perspective. I understand that gun ownership and laws are tough in Japan, and not many people have them. But, so are the drug laws (compared to the USA), and yet you still have people here in Japan getting high and the bad people are willing to take that chance to bring them here because there is money to be made. Same with guns, there are guns here in Japan and the bad people have them. They may have more control in their use of them, but I am sure that the press doesn't really tell all of the stories that they know about in regards to gang and gun useage. My point is, banning them will not stop this from happening. This guy, whether he was trying to turn his life around was still a criminal with a lengthy record, and would find a way to get one like he found a way to do other things that were illegal.

Does not mean he needs to be shot, but then when you point a gun at police, you take your life in your own hands. The social media people need to ease off on the send button until the facts come out, and not speculate on things that didn't occur to start a riot.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The person shot dead had a known criminal record and pointed a gun directly at a police officer. Alas, the officer responded in the appropriate fashion, so the protesters have no grounds for protest, unlike the Michael Brown case.

It seems from the video that these young thugs thought they were too far away from the security camera to be on video. -but it seems they under-estimated the power of the fish-eye lens and hd video. ==> Another young thug goes down hard.

And you seem to want to put a spin on the murder of blacks by white, positively, and claim "it's all about respect". I mean, darn those African Americans for not automatically respecting whites, right? Who do they think they are? They think THEY should be respected? That a white police officer should NEVER be disrespected and it's okay if they die as a result?

How many black men are killed by white policemen each year? How many white men are killed by black men each year? How many black men are killed by other black men each year? Today in America, more young black men were killed by other young black men than will be killed by white policemen in the next two or three years. Where is the outcry for black-on-black violence? Where are the marches and protests? Where are the news crews and reporters?

When all you "Bleeding Hearts" are done, the simple fact REMAINS: Point a FIREARM at SOMEONE else, GET SHOT. Period. Playing the "Race Card" will get you NOWHERE, unless you are black.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

I hope the video can show the truth. I have not the shallow of a doubt that racial bias is everywhere in the US... but I'm getting tired of these protests and homages to a "black angel" victim of a "white devil". This time, the shot youth was not out there to get a can of juice. Roughly the protest is because that guy was shot by a white policemen rather than by a black thug of another gang.

Police are enforcing the law. Punky thugs break them. Police are trained to respond to standard procedures

I agree, but given the number of cases of lethal shootings by cops in the US, I think they should seriously reconsider their training. And also rethink their programs to deal with these delinquent teens before they become violent criminals.

Martin’s mother Toni Martin disputed the police account.

Mrs Martin, if you're a decent person, take a lawyer and investigators, but disappear from media till you're sure of the result of investigations.

“His girlfriend told me that the police was messing with them,” Martin said on CNN.

Her "baby" was a professional gangster in a gang with his gangster girlfriend, so he was the one messing with law. Her son died mostly because of the failure at educating him into a law abiding citizen.

Looks like the theft was a set up to kill a cop, it is clear from the video they are waiting for the police to show up. Then move in as he comes to a stop. If that were a goal of large numbers of white criminals it would most definitely be in the news.

In any case shouldn't cops be patrolling in pairs in these areas? One patrolman does the talking, the other holds the cocked and locked shotgun or pistol. One talking, the other ready to shoot.

How come nobody protests black on black crime? Everyday African Americans are killing each other and people act like it is just a natural thing.

*>In another incident on Wednesday**, a person was killed and three others injured in a shooting in downtown St. Louis. St. Louis police spokeswoman Schron Jackson said officers were called to a shooting around 5:30 p.m. and found four people had been shot. She said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby said the three injured people were taken to a hospital and were in a critical condition Wednesday night.

@ tim can: You are just specutlating and falling for the social media trap that a lot of people have lately, not knowing what really went on and trying to make up a scenario that fits your agenda.

Today in America, more young black men were killed by other young black men than will be killed by white policemen in the next two or three years. Where is the outcry for black-on-black violence? Where are the marches and protests? Where are the news crews and reporters?

This is a very good point. Of all the cases of police shooting blacks in the USA, they are still lower than the cases of Black on Black crime in the city of Chicago for one year. There aren't any mass protests in cases where Black on Black killing crimes occur, and if so only for a moment so people like Sharpton, Jackson and company can come down get in front of cameras and say we need to give them more money to put in place programs to help, when we have spent billions so far to no avail.

I am a Black man and have lived in areas that have seen large cases of Black on Black crime. Many causes for this to happen but the root cause if no jobs and family breakdown. When I was growing up, there were jobs, and one tended to see the head of the household go to work and set an example for the younger ones. It didn't always turn out like a "Leave It to Beaver" episode, but a family structure was there and some of the bad things we see today just didn't happen as much. Now you have young girls having babies, and young men with no sense of responsiblity to take care of them since it is better for the girl to get state assistance. If young men have no sense of personal responsiblity to take care of their child, what makes you think this person will want to put in the time in school, or a job. Thus the cycle keeps going.

This case is not a White cop wanting to gun down a Black youth, but a case of a foolish boy pointing a gun at a cop, and paying the ultimate price for his stupidity. I can't rally behind that.

Eric Garner died of cardiac arrest, in the ambulance, while being transported to the hospital. He did not die in a choke hold.He did not die in a choke hold.

He died as a result of the choke hold, not to mention the cops finding giving CPR to be beneath them. No need to split hairs. Or are you going to contend that he died as a result of the ambulance ride?

@toto_kiboko Thank you. Sadly, some people are going to rail against the truth and resort to hair-splitting, because they don't want the truth to be true.

Yep, because as we all know, the problem isn't actually the problem, the problem is talking about the problem and acknowledging it exists. When will the media realize that their reporting of the problem IS the problem?

The problem is not black white, the problem is a lack of self respect and respect for others. Media is driving black and white further apart. Law enforcement responds to law breakers, that's their job. Black, white, Christian, Jew, Hispanic, Asian, wearing a tie, homeless, you name it. What the reply is from the "suspect" determines the severity of the response. Fight for a gun.....likely you get shot if you loose the struggle.

Police are enforcing the law. Punky thugs break them. Police are trained to respond to standard procedures, problem is each and every situation differs to various degrees. What moron cannot understand simple reason?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

And you seem to want to put a spin on the murder of blacks by white, positively, and claim "it's all about respect".

Well it depends on how you look at it, Blacks ARE making it a racial issue as well as DeBlasio, Sharpton, Holder and the President, they do have their bloods on their hands, DeBlasio is basically the commander in chief for the police, he is supposed to stand by the police, if there are ANY concerns or discrepancies it should be dealt with at that time, but DeBlasio campaigned on vilifying and demonizing the cops. Have you seen the crime rate recently? It's gone up since he took office, he completely destroyed what Giuliani and Bloomberg built. You have DeBlasio saying that the cops are racists (that would include Blacks and other minority cops as well) and that there is a problem with them targeting Black people. Did he make this guy kill those guys, NO, but he did fuel the flames and lit the fuse that brought this unhinged guy all the down to NYC where he has NO contacts and for what? For payback. The protesters shouting: "What do we want? Dead cops, when do we want it? NOW!" Not only is that disrespectful, but all you need is one crazy vigilante nut job to come out of the wood works and thinks he has the absolute right to kill cops out of the sheer desire. NYC had over 20 years ago an average of 2000 murders, stabbings, assault, rapes a year and once Guliani instituted a very hard line cop presence and fired most of the 80% corrupt police force things started to change. Stop and Frisk worked! It not only saved the city, but it saved a lot of Black and Latino lives as well. Look at Times Square and 42nd St. I remember a time walking through there was scary and I never knew if I would get robbed, stabbed or shot. Now, I don't feel or think like that, but thanks to this Commie, the city is sliding back to its former self. The guy is a disaster and should have never been elected.

I mean, darn those African Americans for not automatically respecting whites, right? Who do they think they are? They think THEY should be respected? That a white police officer should NEVER be disrespected and it's okay if they die as a result?

Have you ever listened to Gangsta Rap? The lyrics are vile, foul, heavy in profanity and constantly calling women degrading names and thinking they are nothing more than a sexual object and how about their constant barrage of verbal attacks and calling for disrespect to the police or F*** the police. Rap is highly and socially influential in todays world and listening to that kind of crap plays a huge part in the Black community and is a big reason why many Blacks have a disrespect and disregard for the law and everything else.

Yup, selling illegal cigarettes is deserving of the death penalty, right? Walking down the middle of the road also deserves death -- if you're black.

Two entirely different cases. Brown was a thug, attacked an officer, disregarded the law, stole cigars and had a very defiant and smug attitude towards the police. Garner was selling loosies, the man was arrested over 30 times, had a mental and physical health issues, neither one had anything to do with color. The cop in Garner's case and all the police were over excessive and the officer should have been convicted without a doubt, unlike the Ferguson case as in this latest where the officer was justified in using self-defense.

White police, clearly.

Or many in the Black communities. Look at a Black city like Chicago without a lot of police. The murder rate is absolutely insane, but if you beef it up with more cops, Blacks will think it's some racist move to eradicate them from the city. NYC was a hellhole until Guliani increased police presence and aggressively attacked crime and to a large point Bloomberg as well and NOW you have a progressive like DeBlasio that is dismantling everything that these men built up to change that city and it is on a downward spiral....again.

In this case there MIGHT be grounds for the claim of self-defense (shame the officer had BOTH his body cam and the car cam off -- talk about a lack of respect for the law!!), but it will be undermined by all the cases of flat-out murder and the cops getting off... all because they could not use the simple reason you talk about as being so necessary, and could not respect human life.

You're spinning the issue and totally are seeing it from a very narrow pragmatic POV!

Are you making up your own scenario? Garner was not choked to death and you DO NOT give CPR to someone who has a pulse and is breathing. Repeatedly saying, "I can't breathe", indicates that Garner could breathe or he would not have been able to talk. Garner was alive when medics placed him on the stretcher in order to transport him to the ambulance.

tim can - I made up no scenarios. I expressed doubt as to the "official" explanation and asked some questions.

The protesters in Berkeley, MO began "rallying" within hours of when the officer had to defend himself. The protestors began throwing rocks and bottles at the police officers and it doesn't appear that they care what the facts might be. They object to police officers arresting criminals and to police officers defending themselves.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It's a shame that this has to be said but the policeman is not a racist for defending himself. Maybe Mayor DeBlasio can tell that to his son the next time he feels like having a talk with him about how all cops are out to get him because of his skin color.

In a perfect world you'd be absolutely right. But, in living memory America had years of routine brutality and mistreatment of blacks by white cops, especially in the deep south.

Expecting people to forget that is disengenuous.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

How come nobody protests black on black crime? Everyday African Americans are killing each other and people act like it is just a natural thing.

Because black people as a group have not volunteered to protect the people, and therefore are not able to abuse that power, thereby causing protest.

It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Thanks for the correction. What I meant to say was, they don't do: Stop and frisk the way they did in NYC. If they did, it would drive down the murder rate in Chicago significantly, but the liberals and Emanuel will never do it and so you will never have a decrease in crime. Is it invading your civil liberties, sure it is, but who are the people in the big Urban cities that are perpetrating these crimes usually? It's not Whites.

That's the problem, most have not and until they do, they will never understand. I grew up not to far from a very large crime area where the residents were mostly Black and the crime rate, let alone driving through the neighborhood was always a scary thing and for the record, most Blacks want a safe community for themselves as well as for their kids, but a very large percentage of thugs and gangs have taken these communities over and silenced these minorities. Sad thing is when you point out the violence and the Black on Black crime, the high out of control birthrate out of wedlock, single family homes over 70%, highest incarceration rate of any racial group, highest school dropout rate, that means you will have less chance to be competitive in the workforce, more likely to engage in criminal activity, but when you point this all out, you are a racist of course.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Dash cam off.

Body cam off.

And the surveillance footage? Well I have seen clearer footage from WWI. But the main problem is how heavily edited it is. We get nothing of the before and after. Yet, I can dispute one thing right away.

it didn’t have to end with him approaching the officer with an arm extended and a nine-millimeter pistol in his hand,” he said.

That is not what happened. There was already some sort of confrontation going on when the man took a few steps away, then turned around and raised his hand, supposedly with a gun in it. So, already the cops are distorting the story.

I also marvel that a guy could point a gun at a cop, and only when its aimed right at him does the cop go for his gun and then even manages to shoot a man down without getting shot himself. Of course the man with the gun may have expected that it would result in two people just pointing guns at each other like in the movies, and therefore did not shoot the cop. One way or another its incredible, but maybe just incredibly stupid.

However, surveillance footage from the gas station released by police Wednesday showed a person raising a gun toward a police car.

There was a cop outside the car already. Why was the gun pointed at the car? Sure would be nice to have that dash cam footage. Why in the world was it off?

was not wearing his body camera. The camera on the dashboard of his patrol car was also not on.

Naturally. The tax payers must be extremely pleased they shelled out for that equipment.

“The individual produced a pistol with his arms straight out pointing at the officer across the hood of the police car. At that point, the police officer produced his service weapon and fired,” he said.

The fastest gun east or west of St. Louis apparently.

Did the suspect even get a shot off?

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I think its all a lie. But I am going to maintain doubt until I get a lot more info, because the police constantly hurl smoke screens and BS. I have learned from experience not to just trust them. So many still have not learned the lesson and trust automatically. What foolishness.
