Remember voters, this is what you voted in.
CS
UMM Sorry to burst the bubble but anger and chaos are only happening on the side that lost the election.
Blacklabel
They were offered a generous separation package of 8 months pay.
Dems and their activist judges blocked it, labor unions told them not to take it. Employee groups on Reddit said “stay and resist!”
poor choices, now they getting laid off, didn’t have to be this way.
Blacklabel
“Federal employees donate $4.2M in presidential race, mostly to Harris. Federal employee donations more than doubled compared to 2020 and became more Democratic.”
yeah WE got what we voted for. this is what was promised.
Federal employees did not get what they voted for, and are now suffering the consequences.

SCOTUS green-lighted Executive Branch power of Federal Agencies with the recent Chevron ruling, that determined Agencies cannot create and enforce their own laws. Hence DOGE and Elon Musk and this LONG overdue effort to restructure and downsize US Govt.
Many countries using Blockchain now to digitalize their Govt. IT systems = Elon Musk's end game with DOGE

Anger, chaos and confusion in U.S. take hold as federal workers face mass layoffs
Nope. Many of these people voted Trump and he betrayed them...

Yes, absolutely!!!

Anger, Chaos, Confusion/ ACC/
The new MAGA slogan.
Make America Angry Again

Well, people should be angry. What Musk and his cohorts are doing is illegal. A proper audit of finances is needed before any actions like layoffs and shutdowns can be done. An audit, for those who know, doesn't happen overnight. It could take weeks or months. As a result, they can't show any hard evidence of wasteful spending or fraud.
In the meantime, people are getting laid off, losing their ability to purchase things, and services are stopped. Now, it seems that even the GOP and their constituents are feeling it. For example, farms in some red states who relied on selling their crops to USAID have now lost their source of income. And yes, they could sell it to the public, but there are not enough workers now to do the paperwork for that.
Blacklabel
this was clearly exempted from the USAID cuts.
nice try though.
patkim
Wrong. Even Republican senators are complaining and angry about this. Even the prosecutor, Danielle Sassoon, who resigned instead of dismissing the court case against Mayor Adams, who served under the Trump administration and as conservative as they come, spoke out against Trump and Pam Bondi in particular.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/republicans-rush-soften-trump-cuts-220000057.html
The disturbing part is that there are still some GOP members just remaining silent and not speaking out in the stealing of money from organizations that do good and putting it directly into Musk's pockets through contracts with SpaceX and Tesla. Normalizing theft and lies is not a good way for the GOP to go.
Mocheake
A lot of the people who celebrated Trump's victory are angry, worried and/or sweating bullets now. Remember: Somewhere around 80 million voters checked the box with his name on it, so if you're one of them and you get the axe, don't get mad now. You were mad at Joe B. and mad for MAGA. Now what? Be careful what you vote for.
Blacklabel
Who do you think were the 75,000 smart enough to not listen to “the resistance” and take the buyout?
The Trump voters, of course.
bass4funk
Not even close
Prosecutors make deals all the time, all the time, now I will not judge the case because I don't want to speculate anything, but some deal was struck and in case the prosecutor felt that there now wasn't a need to prosecute Adams, all I know is, the Dems loved him to death until he criticized the Biden admin for dumping illegals into his city and remember, Adams was a former cop, sworn to uphold the law and when mostly Black and Latino residents complained to him about the Dems secretly bussing in illegals, he told Washington to stop it and asked for more resources to handle the influx, they never got back to him, now Adams is working with Homan and Bondi to get rid of all these illegals and that is one reason probably why charges were dropped.
https://nypost.com/2025/02/14/us-news/tom-homan-warns-mayor-adams-hell-be-up-his-butt-on-immigration/
That is because the majority of them agree and want the spending to stop, so this is the hill for the GOP to die on, cut spending and the Dems don't like it, they talk about wanting to save money and make cuts and when it is recommended, they freak out, typical and please stop with the lame Musk rant that he wants even more money, the more Dems fight this, the fewer chances they have of coming back as a viable party.
quercetum
They don’t need a reminder. This is what they want. Smaller streamlined efficiency.
This is a smart decision. Six months is quite generous and evidence of this administration’s benevolence.

Blacklabel....isnt the POTUS and his Cabinet supposed to represent all Americans ?
Even those that may not have voted MAGA ?
Divide and conquer....your own country ?

Our government is out of control and it has been for a long time. Trump can’t swing his sledgehammer around fast enough. He’s doing a great job.

most of you are too young to remember when federal civil servants could not vote. it kept the employees from politics, and the politicians from the employees.
the financial savings from the summary career executions of these people is a mere pittance. a drop in the budget ocean. a pr stunt.
it’ll make it very hard to find good people in the future if the rules on non-disciplinary dismissals without cause by the executive branch are upheld by the supreme court, which is where this will end up. would you apply if by the wave of a hand on a whim will fire you?
as warren buffett famously said, if only the top 500 corporations paid the same tax rate as his secretary, there would be no income tax.
here’s a good example of today’s corporate mindset pumped fueled by republicans. chevron has paid out $60 billion in profit to shareholders in the last 3 years, but that wasn’t enough. they’re going to layoff 20% of the workforce to get a little more money.
the middle class has no job security anymore. the days of working hard, having a family, a house, maybe a vacation now and then are gone.
if the top 10 richest people in america gave half their wealth to the government for the opportunities the country provided them, that would be about $1 trillion and not one of them would have a change in lifestyle. #10 would still be worth about $60 billion.
times are tough, but his family could probably squeak out a modest living on $60 billion.

farms in some red states who relied on selling their crops to USAID have now lost their source of income.
Marco Rubio scrambled to reverse food aid on Jan. 24, and now a judge has ordered a lift to the freeze.
The whole USAID affair is rushed, had no plan, illegal and didn't involve Congress.
purple_depressed_bacon
I couldn't give a figgy fig. They voted for this. They chose this. Of their own volition. They're getting zero sympathy from me. Reap what you sow and all that jazz.
Blacklabel
Just 1000 people were calculated at 98 million dollars of savings at one agency alone.

Just wait till this happens in Europe. You ain't seen nothing yet.

Fight the MAGA Reich..

It idiotic to believe that indiscriminate mass layoffs will save Americans money and make government more efficient. The chaos and service cuts will have knock on effects for the economy.
patkim
It's true though. If Musk really wanted to be transparent and open, he'll step down immediately from his position at all of his companies, since being in his position with DOGE represents a conflict of interest. It's akin to an professional athlete gambling and placing bets on their own team. There are laws against that sort of thing and for good reason. Musk and Trump for that matter, should not be above the law. However, the GOP would like you think he is.

Valentine Day Massacre
In a late-night purge, seven federal agencies carried out mass layoffs — 1,000 at the VA alone, the nation’s largest employer of military veterans.
Jimizo
You sound like you’ve read a lot about this.
Which would you keep?
wtfjapan
Dems and their activist judges blocked it,
wrong at least 3 federal judges appointed by Trump and Bush also struck down his BS. cope
didnt hear republicans complain when the forum shopped a conservative federal judge in Nth Texas, the still do it today. If republicans can do it then it shouldnt shock you when Demcorats do it also. forum shopping is bipartisan

No position is for life , certainly not mine, not anybody's, it is delusionary to believe otherwise.
We are all accountable to increase our performance, productivity for our families maintain our lifestyle.
Why then can we not expect the same from our government departments?
The public sector must be accountable to the voters, the taxpayer nothing less.
Think about that you don't need Elon Musk to spell that out for you!?
Anger, chaos and confusion?
What is there to be angered confused about?

Less government, Trump/Vance ticket ran for office on such and pledge, promise fulfilled.

Yes, it is amazing to see the legacy media freaking out about a politician actually acting on campaign promises instead of promptly forgetting them. What happened to the old swamp playbook?

Can you list the "good" that USAID slush fund money was used for? I am sure you have find some good, but you have to sift through a lot bizarre stuff to find some. Can you enlighten us?
itsonlyrocknroll
look we are bottom line expendable, we insist demand our skills deserve to be rewarded, respected, patted on the back.
I believed, my education, my achievements, my CV deserved a "free pass" to be forgiven for my mistakes, decisions that brought about losses.
Flip no, I am a sales women, in an exec position, nothing more, my sole function is bolstering investment capital
To persuade through sales and product development others to invest.
We are all, bottom line, simply a means to an end.

Why not just go the full hog and like anarchists abolish all governments?
itsonlyrocknroll
There is always, wallace, a higher authority pulling our stings, yet perhaps we wait until it is too late to look up and realise meet the old boss same as the old boss.
My Mum and Dad, achieved a simple family driven life without the need for ambitious expectations.
I wanted more, much more, ambition, a hunger for everything my Mum and Dad walked away from.
There is no turning back now.

New boos same as the old boss ho hum... never learn

Where did Trump promise to bypass the legislature and just cut government agencies without congressional approval? (Which is unlawful)
That was a big part of Project 2025, which Trump assured us he knew nothing about and dismissed as baloney. Because it was massively unpopular.
So no, this is not what voters wanted.
GuruMick
Note to others...there has been no assessment of the so called "inefficiencies " in Govt. Departments has there ?
Just a shock and awe MAGA moment.
Now, everyone of those "laid off " will now NOT be able to spend their income in the various private sector areas they did before....housing, food , entertainment, utilities etc.
So thats a huge loss of income to America in the domestic spending area.
I am unsure how USA helps unemployed people but any new costs from the layoffs will go onto Govt. spending.
Just not good economics...its an ideology that drives this.
Government workers are bad.
plasticmonkey
Then get Congress to do it. It’s not under the Executive’s constitutional power.
Until they need help. Most Americans are a fickle bunch.

The crops sold to USAID can not be sold on the international market because the quality is very questionable so the government has pay the farmer but it is not what his contract stipulated per tons and how many tons. Fascist are ripping off the poor farmer. Watch for the influx of contracted immigrant labor next. You fascist loving USAmericans voters are getting what you deserve.
iknowall
Trump achieved a 100% approval under the laws of the USA to become the president.
And remember the polls that actually had Harris (remember her?) leading Trump days before the election? Those were proven to be flawed.
Regardless, Trump won the election astoundingly, swept all the swing states, and now he can act without caring what fake polls might say. The polls have about as much effect on Trump now as a non-US citizen posting here criticizing Trump.
As Trump said, people are smart, they get it. They see what is happening.
And the Americans see it and approve of it.

What will happen to student loans when the Dept of Education is abolished?
KnightsOfCydonia
most likely overseen by some ex/current exec of a student loan company, going by recent history

Not what I’ve read. Pretty balanced overall. I think most agree that there is waste in government or any other large organizations for that matter. The key is not to cut something where the consequences of cutting it may come back and bite you. This isn’t always easy to judge.
What did you learn from watching Joe Rogan and Jordan Henderson? Were the elites involved again along with wokeness?
wallace
iknowall
In the popular vote, Trump won 77 million votes 49.8%. Harris 75 million votes 48.3%.
That is not a 100% approval.
iknowall
Crushed her by 2 million votes!
Maybe different in your country. In the United States the president is elected based in electoral votes, not the popular vote, but it is understandable that you misunderstood that.
Those are basically valid points. The reality though, is that the president gets to decide what to cut. And so far there have been no negative consequences coming back to bite the president. Oh, there are Democrats shrieking in front of cameras "We will win!", and others using four-letter words directed at Musk and Trump.
But Americans have been witnessing these hysterics for beyond the last four years, with the consequences coming back to bite the Democrats by serving them smashing losses in the presidential election.
And so, we have Trump again.

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency's latest attempt at creating change in the Washington swamp has seen classified information posted to its website.
