an honest article that places the blame squarely where it belongs, with Biden and the Democrats.

an honest article that places the blame squarely where it belongs, with Biden and the Democrats.

You missed the parts where it says most democrats were "blindsided" and angry about what Biden did.

How long is "long enough?" Most landlords aren't owners of huge apartment complexes. They are often your neighbors, people who have chosen to invest for their retirement in rental property instead of the stock market.

Good luck to those who are impacted by this. It’s gonna get real ugly out there.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

I guess the bank lobby has a better relationship with Mr.Biden than the masses who voted him in.

There is only one conclusion to be made here.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Agreed @P.Smith 7:13am: It’s a tough one”.

“The tenants issue: The feeling of impending homelessness must be horrific.”

One the other hand, individual landlords cannot keep up with the RE investments & those mortgages if NO money is coming in.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sure, @P.Smith 7:13am:“the corporate landlords can.” - *It’s what they’re probably ‘Banking On**’.*

“We cannot in good faith blame the Republican Party when House Democrats have a majority,” the progressive congresswoman said on CNN's "State of the Union."

AOC made a completely sane comment! Mark this day.

The US govt. gave out billions in relief to people laid off from work. The Biden administration has had almost a year to figure out a solution, and if this is the solution, everyone has to live with it.

You missed the parts where it says most democrats were "blindsided" and angry about what Biden did.

You have to be "blindsided" and "angry" to gain points for the midterms.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

how were they blindsided?

everyone knew the Supreme Court extended the moratorium for "one more month"... 30 days ago. It was was a big deal because Kavanaugh and Roberts voted with the liberals to allow it, so was a huge celebration in liberal land. then no follow up at all.

Do Dems not have math skills and a calendar? They have also missed the deadline for the debt ceiling too.

Governing is hard.

You missed the parts where it says most democrats were "blindsided" and angry about what Biden did.

Yes, @Kantorejigan 8:24am, it’s possible somein the USA people are going to end up on the streets” but,…

*- @8:24am: “That is the great difference with China, there is only one party and it is doing things well, in its own way but well, in China they are ending extreme poverty since 1970 (800 milion people), that is why they will be the first great global economic power by 2030..” *

… Your Party’s “Final Solution” for ‘dealing with minorities’ in a population are ‘less than ideal’ for most :

*- “Many Uyghur people got ‘free’ housing [dorm rooms], ‘free’ education [alleged forced Party-indoctrination] and “jobs” [alleged forced-labor] in Xinjiang Province.” -*

Biden was inaugurated in January of this year. JFC, anything to get a dig in.

Wasn't the US election held in November? Of course, if one were to accept its legitimacy.

So this should have been an issue the incoming administration was prepared for.

If Joe waited until January to come up with a plan--well, actually would not be surprised that is the case.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

how were they blindsided?

Because they didn't expect Biden to do what he did. That's sort of the definition of being "blindsided".

Also, you conveniently missed this:

House Democrats tried to approve an extension by consent, without a formal vote, but House Republicans objected.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

We don’t approve last minute things without votes just so Dems can start vacay. Sorry.

without a formal vote

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

The fact that there is millions of americans that aren't able to own a house and could get evicted is a bigger issue. So much for the land of freedom. Where is all that money even going? US has the highest gdp but somehow they still lack so much proper infrastructures and security for the civilians. Maybe finally start taxing the rich for once and investigate all their properties and wealth.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

More than 3.6 million Americans are at risk of eviction, some in a matter of days. The moratorium was put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of the COVID-19 crisis when jobs shifted and many workers lost income.

The American people are an afterthought for the majority of members of both parties.

Some members of the Democratic party at least make an effort, as with AOC, Ilhan Omar and Sanders in this case.

Nothing will change until corporate money is removed from the democratic process.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

We don’t approve last minute things without votes just so Dems can start vacay. Sorry.

So republicans objected... and then left on vacation. Yeah, makes sense.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

That’s not what AOC said.

One republican blocked the voice approval (without any debate or voting) that the Dems asked for as they were rushing to catch their plane.

as Congress literally exists to debate and vote, that would be expected. Also considering the Supreme Court said it’s illegal to extend, also prudent to have debate, create legislation and have a formal vote in the record.

Dems and Biden own this.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Dems and Biden own this.

Yeah sure. Don't blame the right-leaning Supreme Court for refusing to extend the moratoriums, don't blame any republicans for refusing to extend by consent (which would be appropriate and just) and only blame Biden and the dems. Makes perfect sense! That is exactly why all republicans are still in Congress trying to find a solution, right? None of them left on vacation and none of them are cynically exploiting this situation to score political points.

Nah, not if the article is read in full.

**We cannot in good faith blame the Republican Party when House Democrats have a majority,” the progressive congresswoman said on CNN's "State of the Union."**

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., the chair of the Financial Services Committee, said Saturday on CNN: “**We thought that the White House was in charge.”**

**We have the tools, and we have the funding," Warren said. "What we need is the time.”**

That is the great difference with China, there is only one party and it is doing things well, in its own way but well,

Not really…

"checking into how the money already allocated has been distributed so far in their own states and localities"

Good start Nancy but why hasn't this been occurring all along? It's going to take decades before anyone realizes the scale of fraud that has occurred in relation to federally-funded "recovery" programs.

And whether or not the CDC had the authority to enact the moratorium in the first place is a moot point since once the federal government imposed it they're now on the hook to make things right.

The walls closed in on that conspiracy theory. The incontinent hysterical meltdowns are long over.

Let’s be serious.

Let’s be serious.

I used to like the fruitpunch flavored Koolaid when I was a child.

The Biden administration had almost one year to consider this issue and to come up with a plan. So did all the other members of Congress.

So, it is sad for some of these tenants, but this Administration let them down by not having a plan in place.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I am excited and happy to see that posters are criticizing Biden for not doing enough to help the poor. He isn't. He's not doing any more than Trump did. Biden is a lousy President. Better than the alternative, but still a ludicrous "buuhhh capitalism is great" liberal.

It is, however, great to see congresswomen like Cori Bush, a Democratic member of the House, sleep outside of Congress in protest at this injustice.

I'm sure that Commander Perry, bass4funk, and Blacklabel will take this opportunity to praise and commend the moral fortitude and exemplary action by a member of The Squad, as I do.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The desperation to blame anyone but Dems and Biden is hilarious. Even more so when other Dems are blaming.....Dems and Biden.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Pelosi has to call the House into session. she called it into recess.

Every Republican can stay but it means nothing if the Dem majority is gone.

So republicans objected... and then left on vacation.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

So where do the Repubs stand on this issue?

Just look back on the 2018 tax break for the Top1% and their bills limiting bankruptcy for poor folks and you'll get your answer...

The Dems may take away your house, but the Repubs will take away your house, healthcare, and right to vote...

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Already mentioned AOC in above comments.

I'm talking about Cori Bush. AOC and Cori Bush are not the same person. I invite you now to praise Bush for her exemplary actions. I thought you would have taken the opportunity when presented to you the first time, but I am happy to give you a second chance.

But it would be interesting to see other far-left adherents like P. Smith comment directly on this issue. Have to rip themselves away from CNN first.

If memory serves, P. Smith has said on multiple occasions that they do not watch CNN. That is the preserve of yourself and your right-wing fellows, it seems.

He’s doing less as he is the one who allowed this moratorium to expire that Trump enacted to help the poor.

He's not doing any more than Trump did.

The Dems may take away your house, but the Repubs will take away your house, healthcare, and right to vote...

Not as a Republican, but as an anti-Democrat/far-left-extremist-progressive I do not have a solution but kind of agree with this guy:

Brian Deese, director of the White House National Economic Council, echoed that sentiment on Fox News Sunday. “No landlord should evict without seeking that rental assistance, and **states and localities need to get that money out urgently, and they can do that,” Deese said.**

As for healthcare, and voting rights--absurd, no one wants to take away those rights.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

He’s doing less as he is the one who allowed this moratorium to expire that Trump enacted to help the poor.

I understand that you think that the President should be a dictator who can do what they want. Alas, this isn't the case. The courts and Congress mean it cannot be. I know you don't like the separation of powers, but it is the system we have.

I think the President should, instead, use their position as the elected head of state to use a bully pulpit to influence Congress to enact laws that clearly benefit people, which is the case here. Alas, Biden won't do it. He is a tried and true capitalist. And if you like capitalism, you must agree with the forthcoming evictions.

I note you didn't take the opportunity to praise Cori Bush for taking what action she could to protest the evictions. I invite you now, a second time, to do so.

So? My question was where are the Pubs on this? McConnell? McCarthy?

Of Course, McCarthy already has a sweet rent deal on a penthouse in DC...

Too funny - let us know when you return to reality...

US politics is ridiculous. The US economy is on a knife edge. More money printing and spending on non-productive issues is ruinous. And ultimately this type of moratorium causes more damage than it solves. Poor tenants. More homelessness on the way.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The moratorium on evictions prevents homelessness. Ending it will increase it. Do you want more homelessness or not?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

It’s just political grandstanding. The actions she could have taken was to force Pelosi to stay and schedule debate and a vote.

maybe let’s say by announcing she and the squad won’t vote for the Infrastructure bill if Pelosi doesn’t keep the House in session. Or that they will support the vote to remove Pelosi as speaker.

standing outside posting on social media does nothing except signal.

Cori Bush for taking what action she could to protest the evictions. I invite you now, a second time, to do so.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Oh dear. Incapable of praising someone for fighting for what you want to happen because they are in a party you don't like.

Blind partisanship. Wilful ignorance. Reckless hatred.

The face of the modern GQP.

Can we ever hold Biden accountable for ANYthing? he also mismanaged the debt ceiling deadline, which is also expired.

You are going to lose it when you hear about Trump and Covid.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Blacklabel: We all understand your position on this article crystal clearly. Thanks for the thorough explanation that is consistent with your other views.

This praise, in my view, could be neither more faint nor more damning.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You are going to lose it when you hear about Trump and Covid.

Operation Warp Speed and as much as I refuse to get jabbed, thanks to him and his administration, millions of lives were saved and are still being saved.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Operation Warp Speed and as much as I refuse to get jabbed, thanks to him and his administration, millions of lives were saved and are still being saved.

Oh, really? But Trump told us all that Covid would be done by the end of April 2020. He also said it wasn't a big deal. When he was on tape privately saying he knew it was a big deal and wouldn't be over by April. Any comment on that blatant lie?

Oops, I forgot, right-wing lies are fine. Sorry!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It's sad that the English speaking netuyo are reduced to whining and crying about an old man across the sea.

"Waah, waah," they say. "Biden is still putting asylum seekers in cages and letting them die from Covid, but we don't like him doing the same thing as Trump because he's from a different party," they yelp.

It's also pathetic that an English-speaking netoyo exists. Pathetic.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This is a tough situation. Imagine a restaurant owner that is ordered to continue to serve food to those who can’t pay. It’s unfair to put the burden on the landlords who also have bills to pay.

Supposedly there was billions set aside for rent relief for those who need it, which has never been made available.

I think there has to be a better solution than either putting the burden solely on the landlords or throwing people into the streets.

Perhaps assistance can be provided to those who can show proof they are actively seeking work or some such thing. The problem is that they knew the deadline was looming for months and did nothing. Government often works this way. Inactivity until absolutely necessary and then sometimes it is too late.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Tenants outnumber the landlords. Any subsequent assistance should go directly to those landlords who have not been paid.

Workmen's compensation and other relief funds had been extended for months, and it appears recipients did not use those funds to pay rents.

At the same time, it seems there is no emergency measure available to keep people in their place of inhabitance. I would question what has taken so long?
