COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of 1.1 million people and infected more than 43 million globally

And the world should not forget that all this is because of China.

"These restrictions will be the end of us,"

Many people will lose their existence around the world...also because of China.

Also large protests in the UK and Germany. It is high time the population stands up against this authoritarian overreach.

Babies who don't like staying inside to save the lives of their fellow people are dumb idiots who should be quiet, actually.

And again, it’s simple...if you set into practice what you’ve learned in your physics lessons. If you have something big in your way, you can take it away and at once, in a short time and with a very big effort and need of force (here a complete lockdown for 6 weeks or so) or you can take it away in very little parts, with less efforts, but multiple tries and in much longer time, that means no complete lockdowns, new infection waves every some months with no real end within sight. There is always a choice and one should think it over, which is effective under the circumstances. Isn’t it now obvious, how to do it?

Government action would be unnecessary if adults would act like adults and take this pandemic seriously. The world rightly condemns Mao for promoting ridiculous social and economic policies that ended up killing millions of Chinese due to starvation. Yet among white people in the western democracies there seems to be so little adult restraint or any notions of community that many are perfectly willing to allow large numbers of their fellow citizens to get horribly sick and either suffer life long medical complications or die so they can dine out or watch a sports event in a stadium. Few among white people in the west seem to have any notions that their actions can harm others. It's all about me and to hades with my neighbor. "I got rights !" But with rights come obligations however it seems too many white westerns feel they have no obligations to their neighbors or others they share a community with. In fact the whole idea of sharing is alien, even hostile, to them. They act like little sovereigns when in fact all of us are dependent upon each other and share scarce resources. A little adult self restraint would go a long way right now but you will never get if from the likes of some who post here.

Protests now in UK, Germany and Italy. I hope all populations rise up against the authoritarian power grab.

The majority of these people are in America. There are small groups of them in other western nations, but it's only in America where they are a significant enough portion of the population that they've been able to elect one of these people as leader.

If Japan is on one end of the individual-group scale, America is at the other. Americans are very rarely willing to sacrifice for the greater good - it's why they only got health care in the last administration, and even that looks like it is soon to be eliminated with the new Supreme Court.

"Taking seriously" does not equate accepting fascist population control.

What does "white" have to do with anyting? Are you assuming the non-white populations of Europe are more eager to be locked in and oppressed? If anything, I would assume the opposite.

that many are perfectly willing to allow large numbers of their fellow citizens to get horribly sick and either suffer life long medical complications or die so they can dine out or watch a sports event

Are you talking about Ebola, or a flue-like virus with a lethality of 0.5% that does not even have any symptoms for the majority if infected?

they can dine out or watch a sports event

How about earning a lifelyhood and not being locked into small apartments?
