Most of the victims are Iranians, their own people

They lied to their own people

And if a government lies to its people instead of meeting their needs then it doesn't deserve to be their government. And Iran's regime is a bunch of fanatics doing evil in the name of God and Islam.

The inept clerics are pompous *#&#@, who hide behind religion to run the country. Mixing politics and religion is never the way to go. @Velius: Sure, Trump is pompous, but he doesn't cowardly hide behind religion, and clearly, he took out a terrorist, not someone otherwise given the elevated status of a "top Iranian figure".

The Iranians were very quick to deny it had anything to do with them. The evidence was obviously so overwhelming that they had no alternative to tell the truth.

A country that shoots down civilian aircraft that have taken off from its own airport should not have nuclear weapons.

Over throw the Ayatollah then and the rest of the idiots in power and live in peace, dont and continue to suffer the barbarians you live under.

The fact that Trump’s blundering and criminal assassination of a top Iranian figure to bolster support by his party for his impeachment charges being the ultimate cause of all of this is ever so quickly and conveniently forgotten.

What about from other airports?

Freedom for Iranian people!

I agree that mixing politics and religion is not a great recipe. But I'm not sure that all the clerics in Iran are inept. I don't see Rouhani hiding behind religion so much. He seem very competent. (Remember the previous guy?) It's a complicated situation in a potentially great country. I'd like to see things move forward, even if very slowly.

Pilot are instructed, not to deviate, their flight pattern, without, permission usually with a warning

Two points: American / Iran tensions predate Trump by a great many years (no doubt before some of us were born); secondly, you can dress it any way you like but the man who pressed the “fire” button was Iranian. This one is on them.

I'm going to have to agree with Bungle on this one. Trump no doubt should face the blame for stirring tensions in the Middle East. But the plane incident was all on the incompetent Iranian military. The Iranians are correct to be mad at their own leaders for hiding the truth from them.

I wonder if or when we will ever know the real reason the Iranians shot down that 737-800?

Some facts to the ever changing BS storm coming from Iran's government:

Just an hour or so earlier Iran had launched a missile strike at Iraqi bases that had housed US troops.

That 737-800, flight PS752 departed an hour late. --- How would the story have read if it left on time during the missile strike on Iraqi bases?

First Iran said that it was an engine fire denying all claims that it was shot down.

Through US intelligence information, Canada, the UK and Australia all stated that with that intel and local video proof, it was quite evident that PS752 had been shot down by an Iranian missile whether intentional or not was not determined.

Iran still counters there was no missile attack on PS752 and welcomes Canada and others to come investigate and prove it.

A ex United airlines captain stated that every pilot knows not to turn to the north after departing that airport because there is a mountain range there. That claim is complete BS. PS752 had done that just two days earlier and followed the EXACT same flight line until it was hit by that Iranian SAM.

Iran then changes its story claiming it was an accident that PS752 was shot down but gives a lame excuse that it did so because the aircraft turned after taking off towards a 'sensitive' Iranian site. PS752 followed that exact same flight line two days prior. --- If you have a membership with https://www.flightradar24.com, you can confirm this for yourself as you will need to be able to see history beyond the limited last seven days free access.

Iran then blames the US for causing this accident which now may be getting closer to what actually happened.

Let's wait and see what more pressure on Iran will reveal as the evidence continues to be released.

Don't be surprised when the real truth comes out but if what you've already heard makes you angry and sick at the same time, 'you ain't see nothing yet' (excuse the double negative).

Iranian General Soleimani died on his chosen battlefield in Iraq. Let's not forget the recent attack on the U.S. embassy. Or are these facts to be so quickly and conveniently forgotten?

Given how deeply exaggerated any unhappiness and disagreement with a present elected government of Iran gets by the time it passes through the spin doctors and pressures to make it to the news, it is hard to know what is actually being expressed, and by how many, from articles like this one.

The odds that what is being expressed is unhappiness with the FORM of government is infinitesimal small, because Iranians are convinced that the elections they vote in almost every year for the different parts of their government matter, mainly because they've had conservative and liberal governments, on both economic and social matters, though because none of those elections matter in terms of the need for Iran to be independent rather than a US vassal state, because that is something that both conservatives and liberals agree on.

It might be the sort of unhappiness with the present President that you see Americans expressing.

And until the University of Maryland's Center For International and Security Studies does another poll of the Iranian population asking them, the only thing that I can say with certainty is that trusting what Reuters or AP say about it is like Trusting what Donald Trump has to say about the environment.

A regime change would be nice.

Peace in that area would probably follow in a few years.

Iran and South Korea are two of the only developed countries that have never invaded another country.

The Iranian people deserve better.

So true.
