The US is really intent on stirring things up by sending yet another delegation to Taiwan, rather than meeting with China and trying to work things out.

These morons seriously want to start a war! Wonder if they visited TSMC like nancy did...

-3 ( +16 / -19 )

What exactly is the point of this if not to rile China? Same as they did with Vlad and Ukraine. Keep pushing and pushing until things break.

1 ( +16 / -15 )

Every time China dispatches military aircraft around Taiwan, the US now sends a smiling politician. What's there to get riled about?

Honestly, I doubt the CCP cares about these visits. It's just an opportunity for them to stir nationalism.

What exactly is the point of this if not to rile China? Same as they did with Vlad and Ukraine. Keep pushing and pushing until things break.

More visiting US politician, creating contacts with Taiwan politicians and looking for area's that Taiwan can join the international community, through health forums etc.

This riles China because China has delusions of ownership. China had zero control over Taiwan, that is the fact and has been for over 70 years. Regardless of what China believes should be, what is, is very different. The US and Taiwan live in today's reality while China lives in Jinping's fantasy world where China dominates the world and all the nations defer to China and it's wishes as expressed by Jinping.

The only one's stirring up hostilities is China. The only ones looking to start a war is China (firing missiles over Taiwan). China does not get to dictate to the US, to Taiwan or anyone outside the borders of CCP control.

All those who buy into Chinese tantrums and accusing the US of provoking China simply are unable to see what is, and are only able to see things as Jinping demands they should be. Tainted vision is not accurate vision. The people of Taiwan have shown no interest in being ruled by the CCP and until that changes (it will never change) the island is self ruled and makes its own choices independently of the CCP.

More and more US politicians will continue to visit Taiwan. The floodgates are open for increased dialog and cooperation. Perhaps Taiwan may vote to become a state of the US union? More chance of that happening than of them voting to be under the jackboot of CCP rule. Even Jinping recognizes that.

U.S.A. : Mind Your Own Business. Taiwan is China's business. Therefore : Just Mind Your Own Business.

Suppose U.S.A. had a situation with an island off your coast which you say belongs to the U.S.A. ? But the people of the island say they are an independent nation. And China sells the island a billion dollars of weapons to defend themself against you, the U.S.A. What would you say to China?

Good.

China should realize if they go within an inch of Taiwan or Okinawa, their forces will be blown out of the waters and skies.

Will you be personally leading that operation on waters and skies? Or will you be supporting your murican troops behind your keyboard in Pennsylvania?

0 ( +10 / -10 )

Go visit Mexico or Canada, US. Piss off from Asian territory.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

Another U.S. congressional delegation is visiting Taiwan as tensions with China remain high over its claims to the self-governed island.

Is anyone distracted from what Russia is doing in Ukraine?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Simian

Very apt name. More war is a good thing? China and Taiwan have been peacefully coexisting for 70 years now and suddenly the US begins stirring things up? And you applaud?

Weird.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

another provocation ?

does they really need war with China?

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

China is the provoker. Because it cant get it's way. Taiwan and the US are going about their business. This has nothing to do with China. No matter how many people post nonsense stating otherwise. The facts speak for themselves. China has no jurisdiction over Taiwan or what happens there. Until that changes, China can go cry in a corner, nobody cares that it does not get to persecute the island of Taiwan as it does those in China.

Does China really want a war with the US? It seems to cry out like it does, agitate like it does so in the end it will no doubt begin one and get what it wants. China is the problem. It has been on since Jinping took power and will likely remain one for as long as he remains at the helm of the CCP.

Republicans Scott Franklin of Florida, Joe Wilson of South Carolina, Andy Barr of Kentucky, Darrell Issa of California, Claudia Tenney of New York, and Kat Cammack of Florida.

I'm surprised any Republicans were allowed to go, I doubt their Republican leader Trump would approve because he might fear their presence could jeopardize the Trump klan's investments in China.

Same as they did with Vlad and Ukraine. Keep pushing and pushing until things break.

In the above the point I hear is that Xi Jinping is so delicate, a lot like little Vlad, that if someone he doesn't like, and might be afraid of, is anywhere near him he'll send his military to attack them.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Taiwan has never been a part of the CCP.

It is an independent country that can make it's own decisions!!

As mentioned above, the provoker is China.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

@Wise. Interesting take as both the ROC and PRC proclaim that Taiwan is only a province of China.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

It's pretty simple really:

A legal representatives of a democracy visiting a democracy to show support for democracy.

They can discuss all the little things that so many here don't seem to appreciate. Stupid things like free and fair elections. freedom to vote and choose one's government. freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of self-determination.

You know, piddling little things like that. But hey, as long as you can get your semi-conductors, what's a little expansionist dictatorship, eh?

The REAL reason that the CCP hates this (besides it's obvious affront to herr pooh-bear) is because to the extent that they can see what is going on (and the Great Fire Wall of China is ultimately about as ineffective as the actual one was), regular average Chinese citizens might start to think "That seems kinda nice. Why can't we have that?"

I am proud that America is standing with Taiwan. And very happy that this delegation was bi-partisan.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

This is the difference. China claims pretty much everything off it's coast is (or should be) China. How many countries does it have territory disputes with?

Suppose U.S.A. had a situation with an island off your coast which you say belongs to the U.S.A. ? But the people of the island say they are an independent nation. And China sells the island a billion dollars of weapons to defend themself against you, the U.S.A. What would you say to China?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Interesting take as both the ROC and PRC proclaim that Taiwan is only a province of China.

So that begs the question. Would you be happy for "one China" to be ruled by those in power in Taiwan and for the CCP to take the position of opposition party in a democratic China? Until elections when the people of the mainland and Taiwan would vote, without coercion, on the next party to lead?

The question is would the people and country be better off under a democratic system or the single party system?

My opinion is they would be better served and happier with more freedoms under a democratic system than simply be dictated to by a single party that can never be voted out of office for bad governance.

The region would certainly be better off if China were fully democratic, and would place more faith and trust in a democratic China.

As it is now, few have faith or trust in CCP lead China with it's territorial expansion aims and claims, its belligerence towards neighboring nations in the region. Many more trust Taiwan than China.

@Peter The second island I landed on in Asia decades ago as a young chap was Taiwan. I lived and worked there for 6 months, lived with a Taiwanese family, ate their, food, learned their language. I am as conflicted as anyone who deeply understands the situation. If you are an American (I have no idea), ask your government why they maintain a One China Policy if you feel so strongly.

The US is really intent on stirring things up by sending yet another delegation to Taiwan, rather than meeting with China and trying to work things out.

China's way of trying to work this out is to threaten Taiwan, to get countries into debt, then force them to give the contract to a Chinese company that then pays the money back to Chinese workers, who then send the money back to china, and the country is left with the debt and interest payments, then take their resources, or force countries to give contract to Chinese companies. Rinse and repeat. China is not a friendly country, it learnt how to use the debt trap, then squeeze it for more. China will take Taiwan one day if it feels it can get away with it. Germany= ww2, Russia= Finland,Georgia, Ukraine, Crimea. The US is probably the only country that can stand up to china economically as we say YEs china, No china, What can I do for you China?

0 ( +6 / -6 )

@deanzaZZR

My nation maintains the one China policy because:-

It means more trade with China and more profits for my nation.

Because the US maintains the one China policy. If it changed, so would ours (Australia's).

And because China is much stronger than we are militarily.

Having said that, The position maintained by our government is that the people of Taiwan must determine their own future and as long as the do not wish to be ruled by the CCP, they will remain as they are, independently ruled. My country does not support any right for China to force Taiwan to capitulate by military means. My country does not recognize any right for China to dictate who Taiwan trades with or visits. Taiwan determines its relationship with others on trade and state or non state visits.

So all of China's decrying visits be individuals to Taiwan falls on deaf ears. It is not China's concern. One thing is certain, the more China flouts military off Taiwan's coastline and in its airspace, the further away it pushes Taiwan. China must find a better way to achieve it's stated goal, by peaceful means alone.

That's hardly a comparison. The USA is not a one party ruled authoritarian dictatorship whose people are eagerly escaping. In fact the reverse is true, people from all over the world including China want to emigrate to the USA. Who in their right minds wants to emigrate to China?

1 ( +7 / -6 )

@Paul Cool, so send your former Prime Minister and Sinologist Kevin Rudd. Although, shoot, he believes these kinds of visits do not help the general situation in the region, nor the future of the Taiwanese people. As a young lad, he studied in Taiwan as did I.

I have to ask, have you spent any significant time in the region, in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China or Japan (as this is Japan Today)?

Remember that, according to their own official policy, they are knowingly entering the territory of the Chinese national government in Beijing against the expressed denial of permission to do so.

Imagine if a group of Chinese government officials ignored America's request to stay away, and landed in South Dakota to meet with the Lakota government.

It would be so nice, so helpful and greatly appreciated if people could understand the difference between a democrat and an American.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

What's there to work out? China thinks Taiwan is a province. Do you think the Taiwanese people want to be governed by the CCP?

If other countries don't show their support for Taiwan, China will think they can take it by force. And it's in the world's interest to make sure this doesn't happen.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Taiwan can do what it wants

If it wants to receive and let in the US Congressmen, it's their country

What a weird confession. Are you claiming that real 'American' people aren't democratic?

What is it with you folks and the recent love for land-grabbing murderous autocrats? When did this start? Answers on a 2016 postcard please.

that’s funny because I am trying to figure out the difference between a MAGA and a fascist. They seem quite similar.

Excellent news. Complete respect to all these lawmakers and officials. Showing solidarity with free Taiwan at the time she needs it.

Free Taiwan will decide who she invites to her territory - not some rogue, unelected bunch of Communist criminals.

Really is little surprise to see the 50-yuan army on here criticizing the US and Free Taiwan. It's never Communist China's fault in their eyes, is it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

You are correct. No matter how much China agitates and causes trouble, no matter how much it provokes, it is never China's fault. Lucky that not all people are blinded by the cheap shiny baubles China produces. Funny how none of their supporters actually live there.

Ahh the freedom to speak out, a precious thing in most lands and unavailable in China and Russia. Taiwan is a bastion of Chinese freedom held by those Taiwanese of Chinese decent.

They have much to teach the CCP.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

The guy on the left is showing the "secret devil worship" sign for those who know.

Gotta wonder if monthly visits by US representatives is really what the CCP desired?

Taiwan might want to look at who East Timor formally became independent from Indonesia in 2002 after declaring independence in 1999 and follow those steps. Hong Kong, Macau and Tibet should try too, if that's their wish.

The US is really intent on stirring things up by sending yet another delegation to Taiwan, rather than meeting with China and trying to work things out.

Who sends warplanes at the other country, almost daily?

Who has threatened to take over the other country, in public, as a stated goal?

It would be foolish for the world not to hear the plans of the CCP and take preventative steps to avoid war. Wouldn't you agree?

If the CCP doesn't want a war, since nobody is actually threatening a first attack, all they need to do is stop bullying neighbors with "kinetic diplomacy" and clearly move back to "talky diplomacy". Why is that hard to understand?

From Wiki

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement,[1][2][3] characterized by a dictatorialleader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation and race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.[

Sounds like Biden to me.

Just because the MSM says Biden is a Democrat and on the left, Biden’s actions say different.

Which bit?

Just because the MSM says Biden is a Democrat and on the left, Biden’s actions say different.

So you are saying Biden is actually a Republican on the right? Sounds like your kind of guy.

Found that dislike button yet FizzBit?
