Totally false , NOBODY was in the Antarticia 600 years ago. Give me a break.

I see ice cores as tree rings, they are valuable methods to see history. But to take 1 (one) ice core out of the size of the antarctic ice cap and base a whole new theory on that evidence is especially bad science and is alarming! Why? Because again governments (and scientists?) all over will run around like chickens with their heads cut of yelling "the sky is falling" and suck up more of your tax dollars to fund useless studies that have already been proven wrong. The world is not warming (and has not been for at least the last 15 years) and CO2 has hardly any effect on climate as evidence from the last 10-15,000 years have shown. If you have an OPEN mind please check out web sites called ICECAP or WUWT and just listen and read their evidence with an open mind to the reasoning. ( it will take a while there are many links to hard core papers and evidence) Thanks, LYA

Yeah, give us a break, even if there were people in Antarctica 600 years ago, the thermometer wasn't even invented then, so how would they even know what the temperature was? They're lucky we weren't reviewing this paper.

Wow Elizabethans could measure the rate at which the Antarctic ice was melting? I'm impressed! O.o

Seriously, did they just pluck that out of the air?

"They're lucky we weren't reviewing this paper."

Interesting perspective. I think if all scientific papers were given to the Japan Today contributors for review we could cure the world. Anarchy and chaos would certainly rein in human progress.

@Thunderbird

Either you don't understand the article, or you choose to ignore what it clearly reveals. Either way, if your reaction to this report is typical, and I suspect it is, then global warming's going to take down the whole of humanity. Yes, even Scotland , eventually.

Yes - and in double time and for a fraction of the cost. I mean, we didn't even have to read the paper or spend years studying the field to deliver our damning, logic-defying verdicts.

How can they tell the temperatures 600 years ago? There are no plants fossils to determine the climate.

The lack of scientific understanding and basic reading cognitive abilities illustrated by the above top four comments is breathtakingly hilarious - such as "Yeah, give us a break, even if there were people in Antarctica 600 years ago, the thermometer wasn't even invented then, so how would they even know what the temperature was?" Ha ha ha! - I mean, are you serious, or are you just jerking us around?

Whichever, thank you for the laughs.

Do you mean to say that you have done research and experimentation to plausibly dispute what scientists have concluded from examining ice cores?

Or are you claiming ignorance?

This could have been prevented if SUVs and CO2 spewing factories had been banned when Al Gore came out with his book Earth in the Balance.

There has been NO "global warming" since 1997. The UNs IPCC recently admitted this, together with many scientific researchers. Melting ice in the Arctic and Antarctica happens due to nature, and it has been happening for tens of thousands of years. Its got nothing to do with the activities of human beings. We are now in an extended period of Global Cooling, not Warming. Michael Mann's infamous "Hockey Stick" has been shown to be false. Lots of "inconvenient truth" around us these days for the great High Priest of AGW religion, Al Gore! The Northern Hemisphere is currently enduring the coldest Winter and Spring for a long time, the third or fourth in a row, with still not much sign of heat. In 2007, one of the doomsday Warming Alarmists told us that "by 2012, snow would be a thing of the past, and we will have to explain what it looked like to our children, because of global warming."

There seems to be no end to the falsification of data and the climate predictions of doom and gloom based on useless computer models, which prove nothing, coming from these people. Around the world, Australia has disbanded its climate change department, the New York Times no longer has an Enviromental Desk, Canada has just announced the end of its Climate Change Office, Forbes Magazine is now officially Climate Skeptical, together with The Economist, and more and more people have been waking up to the reality that we have been lied to, by people who want to make momey out of their endless fearmongering. Enough is enough. Summer melting in Antarctica? Summer, nature, in action.

Australia has disbanded its climate change department

Australia split the former Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency into the new Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education, and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

http://www.climatechange.gov.au/

the New York Times no longer has an Enviromental Desk

today, environmental stories are "partly business, economic, national or local, among other subjects," ...."They are more complex. We need to have people working on the different desks that can cover different parts of the story." ... The paper did a similar restructuring of its education desk a few months ago. ....editors are also considering whether religion reporting could benefit from this type of change.

Maybe there has been no education or religion since 1997, too?

Canada has just announced the end of its Climate Change Office

They must have announced it very quietly, can't find any links.

Forbes Magazine is now officially Climate Skeptical

But still allows its contributors to write things like, We have reached the point where every rational person who believes in making decisions based on science and available data should, if not fully believe that human beings are warming the planet by releasing greenhouse gases, at least recognize that this is what the data seem to suggest and that it is what the vast majority of scientists who study weather believe is the case.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2013/02/18/why-republicans-should-embrace-the-reality-of-climate-change/

Falsification of data is a Bad Thing. So is telling only the half of the story that seems to back what you want people to believe.
