The Biden camp are weighing the costs of debating or not. They are hoping that enough people take advantage of advance polling to vote for Biden, just in case he takes a beating during the debates. Basically, they are trying to run out the clock. He has a lead (even though it may be slipping) and his handlers are loathe to do anything to rock the boat. They want to drag him across the finish line and then let his VP pick take over after inauguration.

But... Trump can use this to beat Biden mercilessly. It was obvious in the Democratic primaries that Sen. Joe was slipping. Enough gafftastic material for a whole series of commercials. Not to mention his bizarre fetish for sniffing women's hair. And yes I know Trump has his problems with women too. Biden, however, is caught on tape numerous times indulging himself, and that is what matters.

They want an earlier debate as well as the scheduled three, that is all. They worry about the interview given on the weekend to CNN by a Democratic operative, who strongly advised Biden to NOT debate Trump.
