@Storm
I'm sure most gay people would rather not feel the need to talk about their preferences.
But they do. And maybe there's a reason... centuries of abuse perhaps?

Because there is active discrimination against homosexuals at all levels, and a very important part of reducing that discrimination is exposure. Sexuality is about more than "what one does in the bedroom". I'm heterosexual and married to a woman, and like to think that my relationship with my wife is about a little more than just sex. Tim Cook said "I'm gay", not "I had sex with a dude last night", and that's appropriate in a business magazine because it's part of a public discussion on discrimination.
And for anyone who claims that it's nobody's business whether someone is gay, do you not see the irony of complaining on a public forum about the fact that you now know someone is gay? You have every right to believe homosexuality is wrong, but you don't have the right to not know something. If you're not interested in a story, leave it and read another. Reading a story, and commenting on it, suggests that you are in fact very interested and wish to discuss it further.

Who cares! Why is sexuality an issue in the Board Room? This is silly, trying to validate yourself.

Hey JT readers, I'm coming out! I love women. There I said it, you all need to know.
Yoda is right;
You folks don't care what I prefer in my bedroom. Just Yoda and I don't care about his guy.

I guess the Samsung will be next.

@lucabrasi, though the word homosexual is newer, dating to mid 19th century when the term was coined, the term gay was used to mean promiscuous. The word “gay” referred to “sexual enjoyment” in the 17th century. Thus, prostitutes were referred to as gay women, a brothel was referred to as a gay house, and a man who was a womanizer was called a gay man. So, in the original use it more correctly meant sexually promiscuous in a dirty way as in a whore-monger.

'Who cares, why is what you sexual preferences become such an issue, is it because they are attention seeking twats or is it because they think it is fashionable,
Notice the straight non homosexuals don't have the need to come and tell the world hey I'm straight, jeees get over yourself, the rest of the real world doesn't give hoot to hear what you like to eat or swallow.'
If you don't give a hoot, why did you read this article and comment on it? It's not like JT is full to the rafters with articles about gays.

The comments on this thread are exactly why. A lot of people still have a lot of messed up ideas about homosexuality. People announcing that they are gay simply does what they are intending to - normalizing homosexuality. And it's entirely normal. When an announcement like this gets a response of crickets chirping, then there will be no more need to make announcements like this.
Yoda_Jedi_Master
Why are people so intent these days to announce their sexuality to the world?? I'm about as interested in what he does in his bedroom as I am interested in what my parents do!
And sorry Mr. Cook, God didn't make you gay. You're gay through either 1: a lifestyle choice, or 2: An as yet undiscovered genetic defect in your DNA which may effect about 3% of the population.
God made you gay just as much as he made a baby be born deformed.

Call it what it is: homosexuality. Enough with the Newspeak. Gay means happy. Being homosexual, or bisexual, is a personal matter, and that's fine and nobody's business.
Is it derogatory to use "straight" for heterosexuals? If so, then why? If not, then why is queer(which means odd or unusual)? Other terms are obviously derogatory, but then so is the term homophobic.
nath
Because people are still expressing opinions like the ones you outlined in your post.
notetoself
"DNA defect"? As in like being of one skin colour as opposed to another? I rather consider it DNA diversity.

@John
You're quite right. I learnt something. Thank you.

"Enough with the Newspeak".
"Gay", in this sense, is an older word than "homosexual".

The dead giveaway was when Mr.Cook described the new Phablet as "Absolutely Phabulous"!

Samsung guy myself, but then no one needs to know that.

It seems all we ever about these days is gay this gay that. Tedious. Who cares where they put it??
