Israel is to blame for a bunch of people from Syria deliberately crossing the border, and attacking their people?

You are talking about the Golan Heights - which is occupied territory. The people that used to live there would, quite rightly, still be upset about that fact.

These people that are referred to as Palestinian no longer have any claim to the land. Indeed it would be more accurate to call them Lebanese, Syrian, and Jordanian, since those in fact are the countries in which they reside

Well, they live in those countries because they were forced out of a war situation as refugees, but I reckon if you ask them who they are, they will tell you they are Palestinian. In fact, I had that conversation a number of times in Jordan, and none of them consider themselves Jordanian.

Peace is a two-way street, my friend, and it seems Israel wants it to be a one-way street in its own direction, with its government making all the street signs and signal lights.

Sorry, Israel is to blame for a bunch of people from Syria deliberately crossing the border, and attacking their people? How what you are describing a 2 way street? If Israeli citizens crossed the border into Syria, in similar fashion, would Syria be to blame?

The author does mention that the Palestinians were marking the Nakba, the brutal displacement of 700,000 Palestinians from their lands, resulting in several million surviving refugees today.

Refugees that are treated how by the countries in which they reside? Lets be clear about this Sabi. Whats the greater crime. Not permitting them to return to lands their ancestors abandoned, or treating them like trash, and permitting them next to no rights now, in the land they now live?

That just completely ignores the fact that Jews who poured in from outside of the Mandate of Palestine were also fighting a guerilla war and burning farms and running Arab Palestinians off their land.

Wasn't just Jews attacking and running people off their land. The pals living there left rather then fight both sides, then found the new government had no intention of allowing them to return and continue the conflict. These people that are referred to as Palestinian no longer have any claim to the land. Indeed it would be more accurate to call them Lebanese, Syrian, and Jordanian, since those in fact are the countries in which they reside. They are different from those in Gaza and the West Bank who stayed.

"And the salafis and the cries of Allah Akbar are nothing to worry about?"

Nah, we leave that to you willi.

@AdamB

Again they chose to fight a guerilla war and they lost now they complain that they want their land back. Keep crying Palestinians, maybe if you stopped the rocket and mortar attacks and turned to peace you would get further. But once a terrorist always a terrorist hey Sabi!!!

Hang on a sec Adam, what do you expect them to do when the coutry and land you have lived in for 2000 years is suddenly deemed to be someone elses home by 3rd party officials? You have to just hand over your family home, farm etc because someone else says you have to?! And then the people you have to give the land to are armed, and belligerent and zealous, and just turn a complete blind eye to your 2000 years of constant occupation? Of course they are going to fight for it. Wouldn't you? I know I would. There is no getting around the fact that the creation of the Jewish state of Israel was great for the Jews, as the total expense of the Palestinians, who have been treated like dogs ever since. They have a right to be angry about that.

Ah, weren´t we told that the wonderful Arab spring is only about democray and freedom and wonderful things, and Israel is not even on the horizon?

And the salafis and the cries of Allah Akbar are nothing to worry about?

smithinjapan: Peace is a two-way street, my friend

You don't have to always play the, "Yeah, but Israel..." card when the Palestinians do something stupid. I think the settlements are stupid and I call out Israel in articles about them. But this article is about a group of Palestinians forcing their way into Israel and I think you can agree that's a stupid way to handle the situation. I just don't see why someone who claims to live on a 2-way street won't say it.

Perhaps a deep moat infested with crocodiles along the border would provide a solution.

That was nice of them to help celebrate Israel's return.

Time to increase arms shipments to Israel.

sabiwabi,

"So why did the same (?) author include in the first paragraph: "...an annual Palestinian mourning ritual marking the anniversary of Israel’s birth", thus leaving the impression they are simply expressing anti-Israeli sentiments?" Maybe because they are, cant you understand that by now.

Its interesting that you mention the Nakba, this refers to the events of 1948 when the Palistinians where expelled following their lost war with the Jewish settlers. Again they chose to fight a guerilla war and they lost now they complain that they want their land back. Keep crying Palestinians, maybe if you stopped the rocket and mortar attacks and turned to peace you would get further. But once a terrorist always a terrorist hey Sabi!!!

"The U.S. president may now have to retool the administration’s approach to peacemaking. Obama is expected to deliver a Mideast policy speech in the coming week."

How about taking away the carte blanche Israel gets and putting conditions on the billions in cash and arms?

SuperLib: "Looks like a bunch of Palestinians decided to wake up today and get themselves killed while setting the peace process back a step."
