“It frustrates me and frightens me—and many Americans—that President Obama is dithering around with the decision in Afghanistan,” she said

Maybe she could go say somewhere where she could see afghanistan from her window and save us all a lot of grief and despair.

DXXJP; You mock a true patriot and our next President. Obama is indeed dithering and it takes a strong articulate woman to stand up to him and his bully boys. I think the media should be allowed. It would show the majority supporting her and denouncing Obama. I expect the decision to ban a speech was made by Obama and his cronies really.

Protect Obama! Long live Obama!

"I expect the decision to ban a speech was made by Obama and his cronies really."

Well, let me see. Obama IS the commander in chief, and Palin has absolutely no other interest than politics, so it seems like she is breaking the rules and is very lucky to be allowed to appear at all. As Governor of Alaska, she would have been able to go, but she gave that up and is just a little person now.

I expect the decision to ban a speech was made by Obama and his cronies really.

And you are mocking the garrison commander at Fort Bragg, who made an intelligent decision.

The only question now is whether Ms. Palin will get to the base and "go rogue" or whether she will sit around and just dither.

Does this mean Palin is going to stop giving her patronising shout-out to the troops at every chance?

I thought they were fighting to protect Americans' freedom of speech!

And you are mocking the garrison commander at Fort Bragg, who made an intelligent decision.:" Ok, I agree but are you willing to remember this article when the shoe is on another person's foot?

Does this mean Palin is going to stop giving her patronising shout-out to the troops at every chance? thought they were fighting to protect Americans' freedom of speech!" That too is a very good point. But freedom of speech is all but gone!

Mrs Palin has a son fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan, yeah? Well maybe she fears all of Mr Obama's dithering. Ever thought of that?

Yabits - And you are mocking the garrison commander at Fort Bragg, who made an intelligent decision.

It may surprise you to know this, but I actually agree with you on this subject, and for that matter on the decision as well. To put it simply, she has the right to speak, the troops have a right to hear her, but they shouldn't be shown to be acting or opposed to the c-in-c. However, I would be saying the same thing if Bush was still President and Obama was the one visiting Bragg. Can you say the same?

Couple of points here.

Firstly, if Sarah Palin has the audacity to grandstand at an event with serving members of the military while those persons are in uniform and/or on duty(thus possibly inciting criticism against the person who is their commander in chief under the terms of the Constitution), then she probably does not deserve to be the President herself for a number of legal and ethical reasons.

Secondly, I would agree with the banning of any coverage of such an event if it does turn into a grandstanding exercise, because some clown in the media might be stupid enough to overstep the mark, and report on such an event in terms of uniformed members of the military taking part in political activities. Merely the hint of such actions is definitely contrary to the practice of good order and discipline. Indeed, if she wants to preach to members of the military, Palin (and her supporters) should organize for a facility off base, where member of the military can attend her meetings in civvies on their own time.

The military rules on these type of things are quite justified. We always run into this issue with Dem presidents, but they military as an organization in apolitical. The UMCJ is clear on this matter: the C-in-C is not to be disrespected by any member the military under any circumstances.

DickMorris -

Oh? I didn't realize Palin had dual citizenship; of which country will she be President, since obviously we Americans won't allow her near the White House?

Ok, I agree but are you willing to remember this article when the shoe is on another person's foot?

Not sure what you are referring to.

However, I would be saying the same thing if Bush was still President and Obama was the one visiting Bragg. Can you say the same?

Oh, absolutely. I am ex-military and, were I still in, would find it of utmost importance to convey to the American people complete impartiality with regards to politics -- as well as utmost respect for the commander-in-chief.

Mr Obama, addressing the army boys at the American base in South Korea:

"You guys make a pretty good photo op."

What a way with words he has!

Fort Bragg will give Palin a big time reception but the decision to limit media coverage is reasonable. Military bases are not the venue for politicking. That being said, she is no doubt very popular among the troops. I seriously doubt that she will make many political statements.

It is common knowledge that most people in the military tend to be conservative and many probably are not Obama fans. However, he is the Commander-in-Chief and should not be denigrated in any fashion in the media by military personnel. The media could take any offhand statement by some soldier and publicize it. This is always going to be a concern when the president is a Liberal Democrat.

I wonder if Obama will send in the SEIU thugs in to break-up these Palin tea-party rallies. -Seems to be a little of a stretch on a American military base, but it seems like felons are accepted these days so the possibility arises.

A bit of a misnomer. There are many minorities in the military who would be quite fond of Obama.

Good to see her showing her support for the troops by also including them as part of her book signing tour. Nice gesture on her part in my opinion.

If we were talking the city of Lexington, KY or Washington, DC I'd be upset they were keeping the media away. But this is a military base. There's no need to have some great uprising by a bunch of folks, when Obama is their boss, the Commander-in-Chief. They actually go and put their life on the line based on the person who holds this position.

I'm sure that Sean Hannity will get some video showing flowering trees and call it the Palin booksigning.

george bush never saw a protester. The Secret Service put them in fenced areas up to 5 miles away.

Sarah will get more publicity her next stop. < :-)

What is the difference of Palin going on a base for a book signing than that of a wrestler, football players, singers? Hillary, when first lady was with us in Yugo! TV camera all over the place.

this one's funny: aday: "If we were talking the city of Lexington, KY or Washington, DC I'd be upset they were keeping the media away." No you wouldn't. You'd find a reason to agree as long as it were a repub or indy.

wait... there are cases where a military base can be used for political purposes if that base is owned by the State!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Base commander controls what goes on at his base, period. But if she wants to talk, she can do it off base. I am not a Palin fan at all, but she does have the right to talk...albeit, off the base.

Heh....jeez, a third day running for the JT soap-opera.

My first thoughts were that even Sarah Palin wouldn't stoop so low as to use the area where Major Hasan opened fire on his fellow soldiers for political grand-standing, heh, and then I remembered whom were are discussing!

Kinda like the Bush re-election team using shocking 9/11 images in the '04 re-election after previsouly promising the American people never to use the even for political game. Some people just have no shame....

But I say let it speak. There'll probably be shriekings about Obama's "ties to terorrists" which will at least have further Palin comical value.

Uh, Adverts, Fort Bragg's in North Carolina. Fort Hood's in Texas.

I would just be worried about a moose hunter going rouge on a military base.

Hey Dick didnt you and sarge say that same thing last year?? Thought so.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whoops. Thanks for pointing that out. I thought Palin would have been offering her support at Fort Hood. Nevermind...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think Palin is too young to be president. After the Obama debacle (I predict that by autumn of next year he is toxic to his own party) Americans will go back to the historical precedent of choosing a proven leader - former governor or major metropolis mayor or member of Congress with a record of real achievement and bipartisan appeal.

Charisma is not enough.

Youth and relative good looks are not enough.

Ghostwritten books are not enough.

But the more that people come here with nothing but blind, visceral hatred for this woman, (especially those who profess to be progressive and all about tolerance, inclusion, equal rights ) the more I find myself hoping she makes a run in 2012.

What're a few more broken rules, laws, or regulations when it comes to that bizarre clique of Bush/Palin worshippers and an opportunity to score political points?

The Army is correct is shutting this off to media. If Palin supporters want to make a political message, there are countless other places and ways that don't involve treason.

Obama's approval rating has hit a new low of 46%.

george bush never saw a protester. The Secret Service put them in fenced areas up to 5 miles away.

Come on aday. Everyone knows this is incorrect. While typically the secret service does screen protesters, saying he never saw one is way over the mark. If you want a specific examples how about the shoe thrower for one. Then there was Sheehan and her camp by the Ranch, which Bush drove by all the time. No, he saw protesters, he heard them, on many occasions as they interrupted his speeches before being tossed out for heckling. Clinton too had his share of protesters. In fact every President has dealt with those who disagreed with his policies. Yes, even Obama.

This is always going to be a concern when the president is a Liberal Democrat.

That is because those military people who are not hardline conservatives are more attuned to the ideal of respect for a commander-in-chief, regardless of political philosophy. It's a concern because many conservatives believe that America belongs to them exclusively and that any liberal in the White House is seen as an illegitimate interloper, regardless of what the American electorate has decided.

That is why it is a concern. That, and breeding.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'll bet Obama's worried that Palin is going to be a huge hit at Fort Bragg.

I'll be he's more worried that Palin's anti-patriotic rants will outrage good Americans.

Palin doesn't do anti-patriotic rants.

"Obama's approval rating has hit a new low of 46%"

The only approval rating that counts is the one that took place on Nov 8th, or so you hardcore bushiites were telling us way back when.

Wake me up when he's in the 20% range like your dear leader young George was....

Right, right, right. You are on quite a roll there, son.

America knows it is Palin's preacher and spiritual 'mentor', not Obama's, who shrieks 'G-d damn America' from the pulpit.
