I am not sure if the virus is the cause.

I guess the main reason is that too many crazy Gun Fans running around in the US.

“I think the pandemic — COVID — has had a significant emotional impact on people across the country,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said. “Individuals are not processing how they manage disputes. Whether domestics, arguments, disputes over drugs, there’s this quickness to use an illegally carried firearm

Emotion, guns are factors; no surprise there but people reduced to desperation by the destruction of 50% of the economy by COVID related factors and little relief . Poverty, inequality and crime go hand in hand.

The Ferguson Effect continues- super charged by BLM and Antifa. All of the worst surges in crime are in Democrat run cities. The same cities who were victims of the rampant looting and violence at the behest of social justice activists aligned with the Democrat Party. Congratulations- you won the election; but your cities are in chaos as a result.

When you have the level of hate spread by our soon to be ex-President, it's no wonder violence and killings are up.

His Minutemen, Proud Boys, KKK domestic terrorist supporters do nothing but commit violence - raging through city offices and plotting to kidnap and kill the Michigan Governor.

Far-right militia groups are a significant threat - fortunately their main cheerleader will be thrown out in disgrace on Jan 20th...

It's clear that more Americans -- not necessarily followers of any particular group -- are being driven to desperation by the pandemic. That's a surefire formula for crime right there.

I often have a clash of ideas with a university virus researcher about the scientific impact of the virus and the socio/psychological impact of the virus.

i guess both arguments spell doom...
