What it set off was a wave of fear, because if the US succeeds in overthrowing the democratically elected government of Venezuela on this, it's fourth (or fifth? Sixth?) time, they're all in trouble.

That's quite impressive that the US can overthrow governments with a few statements. Maybe it is because our enemies are mostly paper tigers themselves.

In 2018, Venezuela outlawed private gun ownership. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-18288430 Just sayin'.

Of course, organized criminals didn't follow that law, but they are working with the Venezuelan govt to keep them in power.

USA oil embargo....good.

Something about their country their rules.

Can some of the boosters here explain why the USA has a hissy fit when a Govt. they dont like gets elected ?

I mean, anywhere on earth .

Because they are not actually getting elected. They are being left like so many cow patties by the scummy regimes that band together and keep them afloat.

Should voters around the world have their votes vetted by America before being cast.

"Legacy of Ashes " is a history of the CIA and details all the failures in US policy from WW2 onwards.

The USA is run by white, neo cons who see the world as they want it to be, not as the world is.

Throw in untrammeled greed and you have US Foreign Policy in a nutshell.

It has been tough caging up China and Russia but somebody has to do it.

victory would draw that young generation back home and reunite the families torn apart by their country’s crises.

But as Maduro clings to power, the reverse may be happening.

But Maduro and his henchmen do not want more Venezuelans, more people to Maduro means that as the country's leader he might be seen as accountable to some of them, which could result in him having to skim less money from the billions he takes in from selling Venezuela's oil and gas. Maduro and his regime are corrupt like so many other countries with large amounts of oil and gas. Long, long passed time to stop burning huge amounts of fossil fuels and further enriching corporations and despots that do not care one iota for people and the planet. If things get rougher for Maduro will he once again ask Putin to send the Wagner Group, or whichever thug army that's backing the Kremlin these days to Caracas to support Maduro's thug forces. Or given China also wants Venezuela's fossil fuels maybe ask them to help him stomp on anyone that is even thinking about opposing him, maybe wearing socks the regime think are wrong.

Testify!

What? Could you be thinking about the 2002 Coup attempt? That wasn't from the US. In fact,

American officials warned Chávez of a likely coup attempt, though Chávez ignored their warnings.

The United States learned of details about a potential coup in late-2001 due to the nature of Venezuelan individuals openly plotting to overthrow President Chávez. Generals who opposed Chavez notified U.S. officials of the impending coup, with one official noting they were not seeking U.S. approval but rather simply providing advanced knowledge.

The US started having issues with Venezuela only when the govt started stealing private assets of corporations without compensation. They called this "nationalization", but it was theft.

If the US wanted to over through Venezuela, it would send in at least as many troops as was sent to Granada. 2 former military guys, 1 of them born outside the US is hardly a serious attempt to overthrow a govt. They were just 2 guys with weapons thinking big.

The thing is that, having stolen everything that wasn't locked down from Venezuela, and then trying its hardest to destroy what it couldn't steal, there's not much more the US can actually do to punish the population for daring to elect someone the US decreed they weren't allowed to.
